  • Continuing the repair on this Economy engine. Honing the cylinder, removing the rings, drilling the cylinder to accept a drip oiler, modifying the piston for proper oiling, and a special road trip to Debolt Machine to meet Paul and George. Thank you all for watching

I'm so glad that you are enjoying hanging out in the shop with me. I never figured that my time in the shop would be helpful, but I'm sure grateful to be able to help. I honestly mean it when I say that you guys are GREAT.

Thank you for this video. I have an oiler from Debolt Machine. It's nice to see the shop behind the product.
Looking forward to more with the Economy engine.

Paul and his team at Debolt are second to none. Now that we have the (correct) parts in the shop to build it out properly, I'll do my best to finish it up in the next video

I always learn something from your vids! FYI I tried drilling the hole thru the cylinder of the original microcosm / eachine hit and miss and never made it thru. Also piles of drill bit carnage plus one piece stuck in the hole SIGH

Drilling through the cylinder was a challenge (over an hour) to get through 5/16" of cylinder sleeve. I used cutting oil, tried all sorts of speeds and pressure, but always ended up with a dull (burnished) bit or snapping it off in the hole. I ended up using a broken shank with just a bit of flutes left (running in reverse) to knock the broken bit loose, clear the hole, lube again, and try to push forward. 9 drill bits later..... Success. Then I honed the cylinder again to be sure there were no jagged edges in the hole. I NEVER expected a cylinder liner to be that dang hard.

Another awesome video. The string rings are crazy. Valves can be made with better geometry. If you give me the valve dimensions I can make them for you. As time goes by it's getting harder to find parts a supplies for model engines. Debolt is one of the few suppliers left that has some high quality parts available. Thanks for taking us along. CMW

Thank you for offering to help out with the valves but I'm going to clean them up, lap them in and we'll see how it goes. If it turns out to be a disaster I will surely let you know. I've really been enjoying your videos, keep up the great work 👍

That looks like it will be a great engine. I'm guessing about 16cc.

I'm not sure what the displacement exactly, but I will do the calculations and be sure to let you all know in the next video. Thank you for watching and commenting

Really enjoying your channel. I’m amassing a number of these Hit&Miss models. I recently got myself a real one to tinker with! Over 100 years old, 300 pounds and only 1.5 hp, love it!
Where are parts 1,2 and 3 on this particular project? Cheers!!

Rendered river otter fat is an extremely slippery oil, but must be kept refrigerated to prevent rancidity.

I would love to hear the story of the virgin porpoise oil. BTW, how do you know if the porpoise is a virgin...........? I'm sure there is a joke to be had there somewhere 😊
