We're officially out of haitus baaabbbbyyyy 🎉 To clarify, I would have a lot less issues with this film if it were NOT a direct prequel to Fury Road. It is that specific aspect which tanks this flick completely for me, otherwise it's would be a decent mid-range release. What are your thoughts on 2024's Furiosa?
Hello Vex, I'm so glad you're back reviewing films on your channel & are ok. I love the previous four Mad Max films, but I'm seriously not interested in watching this one.
I respect your opinion, but I loved it. It provided an arc for the character. What was Furiosa’s arc in Fury Road, wanting to go and add members to the Green Place, then finding it ruined? This gave that more meaning. It shows why she becomes the self-styled Mother to the Wives, as she was one of them for a time. She would have sacrificed herself for them as willingly as her mother did for her. And her relationship to Pretorian Jack presages the relationship she has with Max, and makes her not killing him outright in Fury Road more convincing to me. Fury Road functions as a perfect standalone movie, but now you can view it as a full-length 3rd act to FURiOSA as she defeats Immorten Joe and liberates a new Green Place that may transform the Wasteland, and making a new family there. And winning with Max dovetails with the murder of her one true love which turned her into a hardened road warrior like Max. Thankfully they didn’t become romantic and betray either character’s catalyzing rai·son d'ê·tre: Max is still devoted to his lost family as Furiosa is Pretorian Jack, although going through Fury Road made the respectful nod between such analogous characters all the more satisfying. Once again, I love it because it adds without diminishing from Fury Road, and complements Fury Road by allowing it to be seen in new ways and perspectives. It conveniently bookmarks the stages of Furiosa’s development for easier consumption, and one of the few films it’s length which maintains interest throughout (the final scene between Furiosa and Dementus is long and anti-climactic to action fans, but thematically important-she realizes revenge can lead to madness, and she literally plants the nut of hope in the chaos that molded her life, which is a living hell to the man who can never reach its fruits. And speaking of Dementus, Chris Hemsworth givers the most charismatic performance of any character in a Mad Max-related movie hands down. He is the superior version of Lord Humungus. You understand how he gained converts the first time you see him, but as the film progresses and his cape gets redder, the spiralling madness of Dark Dementus grows. He is a populist charlatan, the shadows side of Max and Furiosa. He too lost his family, but turned into a road warrior with no respect for human life and whose only shows of compassion are manipulative and to serve his own interests. Dementus is an interesting villain that’s unique to the franchise, the false father figure to Furiosa who traded her for power, killed her love, and probably soured her on humanity until Max reminded here there were still good men in the world. And despite being an unnecessary prequel and/or “interquel”, unlike Alien: Romulus, this one ADDS has o the franchise without bastardizing elements of it and continually cheapening moments from later films in the timeline throughout its duration. It’s the most emotionally poignant story in any of the films. And yes it doesn’t function like Road Warrior/Fury Road, but neither did Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome or the first Mad Max. And neither of those were as tight as this. Both of those films had sections that were boring, but FURIOSA is always moving the story along or developing characters. It fleshes out the world, world-builds like a motehrfucker, and scratched my “I’d like to know what Bullet Farm and Gas Town are like beyond a telescope” feelings rewatching Fury Road. Again, it’s unnecessary, but it’s well-designed, beautifully crafted, embellishes Fury Road and does not hurt that movie by addition or subtraction, unlike fucking Alien: Romulus. It is definitely a shaggy dog, and may be too ponderous for your taste in Max Max movies, but it is a WONDERFUL for those who enjoy traditional movie narratives, and it has as much clsssic Mad Max action as any of the other stand-alone-films! For me, Fury Road is the superior version of Road Warrior while FURiOSA is superior version of THUNDERDOME, with none of that film’s problems. I was fortunate to see it in theaters, but unfortunately, too few people cared so we’re not going to see Mad Max: Wasteland or any other installment in this world while George Miller lives. Thanks, franchise fans! 🙄 But at least if this IS the final one, what a smorgasbord for lovers of the Wasteland to wallow in! Peace.
I was hooked the entire time. I liked that it was more character based and had slower scenes as trying to do the structure of Fury Road again would feel repetitive. It was beautifully shot too. I wish you had a better time with it. A 2nd viewing may improve your feelings toward it.
I had the same thought about the second viewing. Watched it 3 times and my disliking for the film was further cemented. And that's not to dunk on anyone who enjoyed it! All of my problems with this film lie solely in that it is a Fury Road prequel and my critique reflects that. If it weren't a direct tie-in, I would've enjoyed it.
@@VexElectronica Wow, lucky! I'm excited for it to come out on VOD so I can see it again. And yeah haha that's kinda how I felt about the original 3 films after watching them for the first time. Thanks for the content! :)

I totally agree! Furiosa runs around in circles for two hours being chased by some bell-end for no real reason. If you watch these movies back to back you realise that by the start of Fury Road Furiosa has had ample opportunities to escape but doesn't - she even becomes a paid contractor to her supposed captor. Glad to see you back creating content, Vex! Edit: Ok, so now that I'm at a keyboard, I'll just add to say this: I never saw Fury Road. I've only followed THIS movie in terms of the box office expectations (and flop). I think one reason why this movie (and even The Fall Guy) have generally flopped at least as box office takes are concerned is the lack of trust. It's been . . . what, like ten years of girl-bosses, race swaps, trashing IPs when not outright IP-retconning, fanbaiting sludge? There's a lot of lost credibility out there. I'm not super surprised by the lack of traction and trust. We know audiences WILL go to movies, even in this economy, in certain instances (Barbenheimer, Mario, even I suppose GotG). I just don't think the trust is there. Originality and lower budget risks seems the way forward. There are more American Fictions out there than there are billion dollar franchises.

Rich from Red Letter said it was his 2nd favourite film after fury road I was worried that the plot armour would detract from the movie but was pleasantly surprised to find myself invested in the characters and story
Fury Road almost bombed this was pre pandemic so people were still going to the movies. Literally Mad Max is all about Max himself, practical stunts, world building, and a charismatic antagonist. The side charters are just that side characters. You derail from that formula you’ll get almost bomb on the box office with Fury Road, and a complete flop like Furiosa. It doesn’t matter how good both movies are, when you attach it to an IP like Mad Max, it’s not gonna go well. They should have been stand alone films without the Mad Max franchise attached to it. I do agree both Fury Road and Furiosa are good films if they were their own thing, but having the Mad Max name attached to it makes them underwhelming.
I enjoyed the video, unfortunately, I never watched any of the Mad Max movies. Honestly, I’ve been burned out on modern entertainment for the past few years, so I don’t bother anymore
Ummm how is Fury road some masterpiece? It’s got almost ZERO character building it’s almost 2hrs of constant action…..it’s meh …..but awful ridiculous to call it perfection. So I guess just constant action zero emotion zero anything is perfection? Maybe for younger people who most functionally illiterate and very culture & history/literature illiterate. Non stop go go go action isn’t perfection. Your voice sounds dead …little to no inflection boring to listen to…..I’ll pass.
It's cute that you act like Fury Road doesn't have a lot of green screen. The blind eye people turn to that movie when almost literally EVERY SHOT in the movie is green screen of some kind, is just sad. People got such a hard on for "muh practical effects" and used it to propel the movie into legend status, when it just wasn't as true as everyone made it out to be. The irony is that absolutely the worst CG in both movies is in Fury Road. Absolutely nothing is worse than Rictus pulling the engine out of the big rig.
Man its just sad at this point and George bro I thinks its best u retire as u are in like your mid 80s now? Dude hang up the directors chair and go to your luvly 150 million dollar home already X3
Lol! Brutal! I LOVE this movie! Sad for your overly negative view of this extrordinary film that makes Fury twice as good. Your Christian symbolism is overly reaching and bears little consequential effect on the depth of the films. Though Fury is one of my fave films ever please stop pretending how deep it is and try to lighten up and enjoy your film viewings
Thank you Vex for clearing up a big confusion I had with this film. People were saying it's a Mad Max prequel, but the first Mad Max was about a cop who went rogue when his family were killed. (no sign of an apocalypse). No one said it was a Fury Road Prequel. I'd heard of Fury Road in passing, but never associated it with Mad Max. Things make abit more sense now. Cheers. LOL
Its a good movie not amazing It left me with the question "why?" Why this characters story ? Why take so long to make it? Why all the green screen? I like the world building
@@VexElectronica One of the ugliest style over substance movies. And a total disgrace to the original trilogy. Furiosa is the worst character in the entire series too, and I was so glad the movie was about HER and her feminist bullshit instead of, you know, Mad Max. Literally, the game was better.
Miller suffers from George Lucas syndrome. He's a hack who doesn't even understand his own work. I detest this movie, furiosa, and fury road even more now.
I have no issue with fury road just don't call it mad max. There's a reason it bombed in box office. Idk why they think ANOTHER mad max with no max would do better. And I LOVE Anya. I'm not wasting my time with a 3 hour mad max with no mad max tho. Let me ask everyone a question. Would you watch a Predator movie with no alien hunters?

Though Fury is one of my fave films ever please stop pretending how deep it is and try to lighten up and enjoy your film viewings
Thank you Vex for clearing up a big confusion I had with this film. People were saying it's a Mad Max prequel, but the first Mad Max was about a cop who went rogue when his family were killed. (no sign of an apocalypse). No one said it was a Fury Road Prequel. I'd heard of Fury Road in passing, but never associated it with Mad Max. Things make abit more sense now. Cheers. LOL
Los Angeles is the most beautiful city in the world
😎👍
I liked it better than fury road. And no, Furiosa is not a girl boss movie. She gets her ass best half the film.
I also thought furiousa was garbage. Everything wrong with movies today in furiousa the non mad max saga.
🍒
Its a good movie not amazing
It left me with the question "why?"
Why this characters story ?
Why take so long to make it?
Why all the green screen?
I like the world building
Fury Road was a bad Mad Max movie too
LOL we're going to have to agree to disagree on this point 😂
@@VexElectronica One of the ugliest style over substance movies. And a total disgrace to the original trilogy.
Furiosa is the worst character in the entire series too, and I was so glad the movie was about HER and her feminist bullshit instead of, you know, Mad Max.
Literally, the game was better.
Getting popcorn
@@Burns_RED Calling a movie a disgrace to the original trilogy is a compliment.
@@lockekappa500 Are you a professional comedian? 😂
Fury road os overrated garbage in my eyes back then. Now I appreciate it after seeing this joke of a film
Miller suffers from George Lucas syndrome. He's a hack who doesn't even understand his own work.
I detest this movie, furiosa, and fury road even more now.
Cry some more
nothing wrong with women doing what they want, but yea modern feminism is not feminism. Furiosa was hijacked for modern feminism.
Ppl who say things like this make no sense jus making up excuses to not like it
Saw a skinny girl in the trailer.
Easy pass.
And that was that.
This review doesn't make me very furiousa but more mad Max 😂
Fury Road never had me on the edge of my seat, in fact, it's one of the worst movies I've had the displeasure of watching.
