hey some cool ideas there mate. Your timber shelf held level by the straps, If you change them to cam buckle straps you can then hold it up by tightening the cam buckles and lower when you have the tent open. No need for a latch. cheers.
Cheers Paul! Yeah thats a great idea to do. Ideally I'd prefer something that I could lengthen/shorten in one motion so it could be done with one hand, but I may be able to work that idea in
Hey Todd, loved the video. Love ideas like this. Curious on that piano hinge for the drop down table, about how many bolts did you put through the top of the tent? All of them?! And for the side straps, those bolted in through the roof too? Wonder if a rivnut or plus nut might be another option… 🤔. Stellar idea though brother. 🤙
Hey mate, thanks for the great feedback! I used 3 bolts to hold the piano hinge to the tent shell. I definitely wouldn't use all of them haha! Very overkill. The side straps attach to the shell, but to an extrusion welded to the lid that joins the canvas to the aluminium. I used a big stainless steel rivet and panel washer to hold them on, and it's super strong! Very happy with it. Rivnut wouldn't work I think, as the aluminium is quite thin and most likely would flex too much and vibrate loose. But I get what you are trying to achieve. Thanks for your thoughts, I really appreciate it. Looking forward to more of your ideas on future videos!
I am getting a roof top tent in the next few weeks. thanks for the tips dude

Magnet's to hold the table. In lay metal/magnet in the table and place/glue magnet/metal in the pockets already there.
Nice video! I like your tips!
Glad you like them!
Great movie Todd 👌🏼
Cheers mate!

How about using velcro to hold the table up
Hey thats a good idea... Would need to be a decent amount of it but it would negate the need for drilling into the tent anymore.
Ridiculous prices
