The spark ignition was the best part about that engine. But it does run pretty good on nitro.
yeah kinda sucks it wasnt working well, id like to see it fixed and made to run better with a real rc grade ignition system and not the crap china one
Agreed
People said to me before that RC vehicles use nitro fuel because the geometry of the engines is just too small to have fuel and air mix properly. A flathead is notorious for having bad mixing characteristsics, so I can imagine it being the worst miniature engine to be run on gasoline.
@@RDMracer Nitro has to mix with air too.
@@theyeetus1428 Gasoline spark ignition requires a much more homogeneous air fuel mixture to ignite properly than a compression ignition nitro engine.
You should make a Dyno to bench test your creations before the road! Would love to see that 👋🏼
He did once
He did that already
it's hard to make a ture to scale accurate dyno that works like the real thing
@@printstanza7792 ive been following him since 2016 I’ve never seen it. If you’re talking about the engine type dyno yes, but not a tuning type rolling dyno!
@@rogers8555 theres many videos on here where people build their own dyno for nitro rc’s
Hi Johnny - you might well have spotted this but on the thermal imaging shot, the exhaust header nearest the camera was cold, and the engine didn't sound like it was running on all 4. Someone else in the comments mentioned something similar. Definately worth looking into. Otherwise, good work!
that is the intake manifold, the exhaust was on the other side
@@troywarner9546 Sorry to be that guy. Its actually on the same side as the intake manifold. The Intake is on the top while the Exhaust is underneath it as you can see if your not an idiot.
Yeah it doesn't sound like its running on all cylinders to me too.

Sounds like an old diesel a bit 🥰
Btw would it be possible to build a diesel at this scale?
I would love to see a mini turbo diesel
1.9 TDI 😛
ua-cam.com/video/zXCGyItsgQs/v-deo.html i think it could be done, but im sure it would need a compressor or turbo to produce any measureable amount of power
Making such tiny injectors and and an injection pump would be pretty difficult. A flat head wouldn't have enough compression ratio for a diesel either.

Nice to wake up on a Sunday and have one of your vids on stand by lol...keep up the great content 👍
Although I agree with your theory about the stiffer valve springs, I think that a carburetor with a larger bore would also help, with both nitro and gasoline. Compare the ratio of bore diameter of the carb to displacement of a single cylinder to that of one of your factory single cylinder nitro engines.
ua-cam.com/video/Uj9hGpD6kBE/v-deo.html
Air:fuel is a commonly overlooked factor when doing diy.
I seriously want dyno test of the previous video's engine and this one! Nice video Johnny!!
Love your content, keep it up!
Wow response is right there man I can’t believe nitro makes that much difference it even sound more crisp
LOVE IT JohnnyQ90!!! Switching over to Nitro makes those RPM's climber Soooooo much quicker than running it on gas!!! More air=more power!!!
It does run better on niro, along with the glow plugs. Awesome job as always. Love your channel and content. ❤🇨🇦

So happy to see a new upload from my favourite UA-camr ❤
sounds healthier . Good Show , ENJOYED !!👍👍
Omg that sounds so cool!
thank you it s so satisfying
I love the way it sounds with nitro. The gas was a bit weedeater-esque, but the nitro sound great.
Excellente vidéo 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Great vid!! you should totally try to convert one of the engines to a real diesel engine!!
And it now sounds so much better. 🙂👍
I noticed the sound difference with running it on nitromethane straight away. Nitro gives it a much more aggressive sound.

LOVE THE SMALL OF NITRO IN THE MORNING!!!
As always cool idea cooler results...
Комментарий в поддержку канала и ролика, а также труда мастера.
That was a huge improvement
I would absolutely love to see a miniature turbo diesel
Awesome!! I converted mine to nitro also, revs way better.👍👍👍👍
Wow! 😲 Two stroke engine 👍
Nice - It definitely sounded better on nitro and looked a lot more responsive than it did running on petrol- I think It'd be a lot better if you give each cylinder it's own carburettor too. It also looks like a prime target for some air charging - Have you ever thought about using a small EDF or driving your own design of super charger with a little brushless motor so it doesn't leach any power/torque from the engine? Good vid as always, Thanks - All the best.
the genius is back
Nitro sounds so 😎 🔥
Love to see that in a boat!!!
Great solution. Simplicity....
So good!!
Like a 2stroke Ehgine!!!
that is sick!
Very nice indeed.
Considering how big the carburettor is on 3,5ccm and like 4.6 or 5.9ccm,
you should definitely get something bigger! This thing is restrictive af.
Also one which is not turning. It should slide to the side!
Due to the "special" engine use, you should take one with 3 needles to adjust (+1 for idle).
Then you should definitely do something with the cam timing. There is basically no "valve crossing",
so a point, where both valves are open at the same time, this is mandatory for high revving engines.
Without, you will never experience any high rpm things. Especially on NA engines. On Turbos its..
more for cooling EGT rather than getting more air into the engine.
I can send you a high performance 3.5ccm carburettor which should fit your needs,
but I want to see nice contents with it!
Nice throttle response!
I would love to see you try and do a diesel conversion on an engine like that if its possible but keep up the good work man
this was the shortest period between uploads i have ever seen johnny do
You'r a amazing guy
I think the gas one sounded better but obviously the nitro is making more power and the throttle response is amazing this is a cool engine curious to see what you’ll put it in
ua-cam.com/video/Uj9hGpD6kBE/v-deo.html
I love ❤ur work u are blesss
Stiffer valve springs and lapped valves would be awesome on this little thing
You do some awesome work. Love the sound of that thing.
Quick question though, is there any reason spark plugs wouldn't work for nitro/methanol? Would they not ignite the mixture?
Your very talented, you should make a RC car dragster with your engines.
Nice a new great video 👍 Can you turbo it or would it break the engine?
Love your stuff. Any particular reason you decided to use M3 bolts instead of studding the block?
Dennis Radio out of Control swapped the carb with a trx15 but I suggest the SH18 carb it has a bigger venturi and May assist more air flow. Plus is supposed to be easier to tune. Could be a good test experiment. Runs Nicely 👍
Now it needs a two carb setup to mimic hotrodders back in the day.
There still are banger 4 cylinder cars that run classes at Bonneville.
Build a lakester tribute.
Really cool engine. Purely from sound though it's definitely not running on all cylinders, maybe issues with fuelling evenly on all 4? Regardless it's nice to see something so well put together and way beyond what I could afford!
I would love to see you build a test chassis to try out the different motors on.
Nitro has that lovely crackle idle. Like the TF dragsters have.
You could polish the valve seats to get a better seal when you add the new springs
Καλησπέρα σε ολους!!
It definitely sounded allot better. When we were kids in the 70's we use to mix 50/50 Cox airplane nitro fuel and gas for are Briggs, or Tecumseh powered go karts, and mini bikes. All the engines back then were flatheads. It didn't help much on the low end, but mid to top end it made the difference. The only thing it ate the electrodes on the spark plugs.
also modyifing the front wheel of the main axel to fit a cooling fan so that way you can use it in a RC car more efficiently with the radiator, also maybe to avoid the cracking of the Carburator pipes, maybe use 1 carburator per 2 pistons or 4 carburators for all 4, would love to see the building process
Smoooothe operator on Nitro)
What happens when you make the exhaust pipe longer like a foot or two? I'm curious
Would love to see the sound difference

От новых винтов в голове скоро увидишь на рабочей поверхности гильзы следы.
It would be so cool to see that in an RC ‘32 Ford.
I'd really love to see a scaled down Dyno to see what power is at the wheels after it's went through the gearbox and diffs

Very cool
It would be soo cool to see a mini diesel
👏👏👏👏 Braavvooo mantap bin keren mesin mini yang cantik ini luar biasa MANTAP 👍👍👍💖💖💖 untuk bahan bakar nya dari minyak apa??
outstanding
What is the most reliable/ powerful motor you have tested? Would that vtwin take that air pump you made not to long qgo
So cool
neat tools
I still say you should put the V-Twin engine on a Motorcycle build, which if IRC would be a first for you. It would looks sick AF on a bagger or chopper. 👍👍
How do you like your seek compact pro? I went w the blackview bv6600 pro and I love that thing
Nice 1/5 scale chassis needed for that
It seems that Johnny has a preference on using nitro over gasoline. Two gas engines converted to run on nitro?
Is it that harder for these small engines to run on gasoline than on nitro? I'm sure that the larger ones I've seen in other videos run fine on gas.

You actually have a thermal imaging app on your phone? That's totally awesome! Is that exclusive to Samsung?
This thing would be badass in a T bucket.
curious to see what it could give in an RC car and also see what another exhaust could give
15 degrees timing is good to start/idle on, but when you rev it up you'll want more like 30 degrees. That might be a reason for lack of response.
Can you make a 4 stroke 2 cylinder inline polaris sportsman 850 engine? It would be a really neat and simple build
Coud you use spark plugs?
Also maybe play around with electronic injection if its possible
Nice.
Salve meu Mano eu sou brasileiro sou muito ceu fan
I must say, it has a lot better throttle response but it does not idle well. I think with tuning the carb for gasoline, the way it should have been, it would run even better! Either way, great video.
Did u notice that the closest header witch would be no4 cylinder wasn't hot like the rest were glowing start it and check the first cylinder if it don't get hot the carb can't supply enough air/fuel to the end cylinders to solve that twin carbs,so what about doing a twin carb set up for more fine adjustment, and lapping or re-seating the valves coz as u knw thay properly not been done that good in the first place from factory and abit of port matching the inlet see if you can get a better flow and leaving it rough with help mixing the fuel and air, exhaust side help with the flow and give it a little polish to help get the exhaust gases out quicker if it's possible cos of the size. I would make a silencer box with at least a inch of tube each end to put on the end of the manifold for abit of back pressure. If it was me with your tools/machines check if it gets hot thn go from there. I would do the end can/silencer first to see if it helps thn the lapping and port matching/polishing/making flow better in the head and see how if it helps thn the twin carb set up. 🤔💯💯🔥👌👊👍
Lil this sounds like a little monster
Thermal imaging is cool
love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩❣️
Instead of using capscrews to secure the head it would be better in the long run to use studs with Acorn or Dome nuts. Make block stronger, and would look better too. Plus if the head has to come off again its more user friendly.
Awesome as always! Sounds cool too! I'd love to see u build a highperformance one, porting everything, make a more better combustionchamber, oversize valves, some procharger-type supercharger, a proper intakeplenum and a more effective exhause manifold. I think it would be so good!
I wonder what gas you were using for it originally. I didn’t think about it until now but if it’s a higher compression it might have needed a higher octane fuel to make it run better
its gonna blow up with nitro
Is the flywheel heavy? From my perspective, it looks heavy and it reduce the rpm limit
What was that piece u had hooked up to your phone so u could see the motor temp?
Did you change valve timing at all ? There may be a little more power to gain and since it's a flat head you don't have to worry about interference so maybe give that check
Trying to get it to lower RPM, like 1000-ish will give out more usable RPM range. That way you are still with original parts. Except for the glow plugs ;)
Hey Johnny , could you trying making a tesla turbine jet engine? It's a tesla turbine and a axial flow compressor on single shaft, could probably use a centrifugal compressor also.
Try running the engine on hho gas.. I want to see a dyno compared to nitro and regular petrol.
Think it would be interesting on a micro scale and I've seen small generators a mower engines run pretty well on hho alone.
Now ask the company to put two of those together and make a ford flathead v8
This guy is going places. I can see him in the future building tiny engines!
wish working on my cars motor was this easy ..anyone got a shrink ray laying around ..on a side note should add some clamping force to the head with the bigger diameter heads
I love what you are doing it`s great I wish I had the money yo buy a 1000 dollar miniature engine and play with !
I would be miffed though if it runs like you showed us in your previous post would it not be a reason to send it back ?( I know I would)
What suspension do you have on the rc car independent or?
