Hey there! The abbreviation mm Hg means millimeters of mercury. Mercury was used in the first accurate pressure gauges and is still used in medicine today as the standard unit of measurement for pressure.
mmHG is used for blood pressure… 51.7mmHg per 1psi Below 120/80mmHg is normal (2.32/1.54psi) and above 180/120mmHg means you're probly about to die (3.48/2.32psi).

That engine is insane!!!! You're right too, that thing is a little scary when you put some gas to it. On the second startup it looked like it wanted to fly off the back of the truck....LOL! Great video!
I remember pretty much everyone used to put a pressure tap into the muffler/tuned pipe of their RC engines to pressurize the fuel tank(s). The advantage of using a pressure tank I guess is that you don't need to prime the engine to get it to start. Those Kolm engines are amazing!
LOL. You still need to prime the engine. The pressure nipple only provides pressure to the tank when the engine is running. Not to point out the obvious, but...........
Great little engine! I'm doing something similar to this with an old H-1 Kawasaki 500 triple using a jackshaft gear reduction for the prop drive. I've flown my 1/3 scale Kawasaki Ki-61 7 times now with this powerplant. Waiting for new Lectron carbs to show up.
Wow! Amazing sound and love the starter motor, my shoulder would love it. As a side note please be careful with prop engines not to stand in front of it always best behind (not sure where you were when camera was shooting from the front). Keep it up always an enjoyable video to watch learning new things still.

The prop torque must be ginormous! Re the sound of a kolm engine, listen to a Merlin. It is creepy how much alike they sound. This will be fun build to watch. Thanks for putting it on!
This has got to be one of the sickest engines in the world . I can think of soo many things I could nlmount this to so many applications and then I can think of all the airframes it would pull the paint off of. I have only one thing to say: Damn. Wow that sounds unbelievable! I think they make a 4 Cyl too. All their engines are custom built to order. The thing almost sounds like a RR Merlin. Can’t wait to see that Mustang Build! That Kolm is a big step up from my DLE 55 in my mustang.
That's a good sounding engine. The first time I heard one was in a large scale Spitfire and was the closest thing I'd heard to a Merlin engine in a model

About two months ago I had the same engine in my mk1 Hurricane…now all I’ve got is the control box….and no, I didn’t crash it!..I took off for its maiden flight I did couple of test runs did some flybys…while pulling up from one fly past we don’t know what happened as we can’t check lol but we think the battery slipped and pushed the wires out as I lost all control and my mk1 hurricane just kept climbing till it disappeared through the low clouds…to never be seen again 😔….yes very gutted!
@@thelightersideofrc yeah I’ll be honest I nearly cried…worked my ass off to buy the hurricane a mick reeves mk1 with an 80” wingspan…then had to save for a few months for the engine…..I had the plane about 8 months from the start of the kit build…I had the engine 3 days…..it’s disheartened me to be honest it’s a lot of money to lose, don’t know if I’ll buy another.
Seems like getting cooling air to that rear cylinder could be a bit of a challenge. I am not at all familiar with these engines, but seems like some kind of shroud assembly inside the cowl could be a good idea. I probably would have even drilled a few outlet holes in the backwall of the engine test stand right behind the rear cylinder head for the test run.
Nice engine, would sound even more aggressive if you took that exhaust off and just did straight pipes but it is quite a bit louder. Neat engine though would love to own one someday.

I would balance the prop as a unit. I weigh each blade, then I spanwise balance each blade like a heli blade. Then bolt it together and balance it as a cross. The blades are hollow around 25mm in from each tip. I drill a 3mm hole and next to it a 1mm hole for air escape. I inject Hysol to balance. If you have 0.1g scales use tape to balance the prop. Take the tape off and weight it. That gives you the amount of Hysol to inject in each blade. Carb adjusting. The carb nearest the back will be richest, carb at the front will be leanest. I use Pointed nose pliers to pinch the front line first. Listen for immediate sag (perfect mixture) or delay and increased revs (rich mixture) lean that. Go to middle carb, same thing and finally rear carb. (This is the line direct to the carb) we used 4s battery on starter…

@@josephkerkau2520 Sure you could. You could build a B-25 and put a single vertical stabilizer on it too and there you go. You could build a B-25 and put a second wing in it and there you go. You could build a B-25 and put four EDFs under each wing in twin nacelles and there you go. You could build a B-25 and install wingtip floats, a turbine in the tail, and give it wing panels from an imperial tire fighter and there you go. I hear you, makes sense to me! In reality, though, if you want to put impressive horsepower in a B25, which used radial motors, you use large powerful radial motors, which are readily available and just as impressive. Think Moki. There you go!
Hi, which hub - propeller are you using? Could you share the pitch template? I did buy the same engine and I have the Soloprop hub but they stated that could not be used with the Kolm IL230. Thanks.
All of the parts came from CARF. Is a Vario prop but with the center portion removed. So each blade is adjusted at the tip independently using the wedge. Shoot me an email and I can give you the template dimensions

Don't want to sound ignorant, but the prop does not look like it would challenge that hunk of a mill too much!
Oh the prop can be cranked up to crazy pitch numbers to be a challence. It's adjustable.

Great eye! Yea the cooling system is very well thought out by the Airplane Manufacture it's going in. Very specific to this engine.

The red stuff was from the kolm factory. For the other ball joints they are a friction fit?

B25 used radial motors. Think Moki instead.

You could build a B-25 and put four EDFs under each wing in twin nacelles and there you go. You could build a B-25 and install wingtip floats, a turbine in the tail, and give it wing panels from an imperial tire fighter and there you go. I hear you, makes sense to me!
In reality, though, if you want to put impressive horsepower in a B25, which used radial motors, you use large powerful radial motors, which are readily available and just as impressive. Think Moki. There you go!

Moki radial. There is also another company that staarts with a V that is also a great option.
Looks like it would be great for ultralight, or a hovercraft. Obviously, several other appications as well.

Hi, which hub - propeller are you using? Could you share the pitch template? I did buy the same engine and I have the Soloprop hub but they stated that could not be used with the Kolm IL230. Thanks.
All of the parts came from CARF. Is a Vario prop but with the center portion removed. So each blade is adjusted at the tip independently using the wedge. Shoot me an email and I can give you the template dimensions
