    I literally did what you’re talking about … I had a Kamado Joe, a Backwoods Chubby, a Weber Performer, a Weber GA, a Weber Smoky Joe, and a medium BGE. Ended up selling the lot and getting out of BBQ for a while, and once I got back into it, I just bought an SNS Kettle with some accessories.
    Is it as perfect a smoker as the Backwoods, or as great as holding temp as the KJ? Nope. But it’s close enough that it doesn’t matter, the food still tastes amazing, and the more you learn the technique and the science of BBQ, the less important the equipment becomes. A great cook using a basic Weber kettle will turn out infinitely better food than a newbie on a $12k Kamado.
    Hell, the old-timers turned out legendary BBQ with nothing more than a hole in the ground, some wire mesh, an empty oil drum and some rebar.

    This is real, solid, first-hand analysis from an honest, down-to-earth guy. Love his videos. I have a Weber Summit and, have some difficulty with its leaking air, I replaced the lid - Weber was great and shipped the new lid free and fast - and love it. I have a bunch of high end hibachi (Mibrasa, eg) and a Kamado, but the Summit is my go to grill/smoker/slow cooker. Light, easy to use, sturdy and fun.

      I had a Camp Chef flat top, I loved it!... but, you really have to take care of it to keep it from rusting, which means you have to use it or you will spend more time re-seasoning it. Which is why there are a ton of videos on how to re-season a flat top.

    I've cooked on a Weber for decades. I do think about about replacing it from time to time, but I just can't get past it's versatility. I thought about a pellet but realize I enjoy controlling the cook. It's a great excuse for just relaxing in my backyard by the pool while I do an 8 to 12 hr cook.

    I have the Weber Summit Kamado. Love it. It does everything and is double wall metal so it’s lighter than the ceramic Kamado’s. Doesn’t give that offset smoke flavor but definitely can get something that tastes good.

    That's a thorough comparison of these different cookers and very helpful for those that just can't decide. It would be tough to choose if I was forced to choose just one. My barrel has a blower, so it's convenient like a pellet grill, but it has the smoke flavor like an offset has without the babysitting. Can I just choose 3 or 4?😂

    Completely agree on the offset winning the smoking category but temp control depends on your perspective. For instance, it takes a while for my KJ Big Joe to get up to any certain temp and if I overshoot by too much it might take a while to get it under control. So since I don’t have a pellet grill I give the highest marks in that category to my Texas Pit Crafters offset since all I need to do with a temp spike is shut the stack damper a bit and adjust the intake or door. Or add more fuel and open the vent as needed for more heat. Easy peasy. I just don’t have the temp range as I do on my grills. Versatility of my offset is fantastic, though, since its water pan in the bottom is designed to also hold charcoal for direct heat BBQ/medium heat grilling. I like direct heat chicken off it over my KJ any day, and that’s one reason my Big Joe needs to go. Anyhow, my favorite grill is my PK original and the PKTX folding cart makes it my favorite portable grill as well. As for accessories yeah the 22” Weber wins hands down. Everybody needs one.

    I agree with your results. I love cooking on my Akorn kamado, it's set and forget and puts out excellent food. It's my go to grill in the winter as it gets cold in Chicago. But if could only have one, the kettle all day. Can do anything and is pretty portable. As for pellet grills, I have the second gen SmokeFire and that thing sears almost as good as the kettle. It's become my go to for reverse searing.

  • @victorbenner539
    @victorbenner539 5 місяців тому +2

    Good job with this difficult task. Soooo many variables that one can go into. For example the Kamado is technically a vertical cooker. Like the Webber webber smoky mountain, ugly drum smokers, Insulated Vertical Smoker's and a whole host of verticals powered by charcoal, propane, pellets wood and even electricity ( sooo many). Anyway I ask folks who ask the age old question of if I could only have one cooker what would that be? Simple, the Webber 22"kettle. For all the reasons you mentioned. I'd also suggest that same cooker if its their first time purchase getting into the world of bbq because you can do everything on it for not a lot of money. Then after they have been using it for awhile and they have a good understanding of bbq and they want to do something more specific like smoking to then get a 2nd cooker that specializes in smoking. It won't be long before they begin to understand why so many of us have so many different kinds of cookers. I use my offset ( I have two) the least of my cookers. But i wouldn't ever consider getting a rid of either of them. Nothing puts on a better heavy smoke flavor onto the food then a offset. I love firing up a offset early on a Sunday morning during the fall for making pulled pork and brisket for the football games. Sitting next to that warn firebox and feeding it on those cool mornings while watching the games? Priceless 😊🏈🍻🔥😋.Johnny have a great day.

      Hey Victor, I had the idea for this video last year and did not make the video because my first list was 18 bullet points and the video would have gone on forever. So this time. I cut it down to 8… and it made for a shorter video and I think more interesting. Take care Victor.

    • @victorbenner539
      @victorbenner539 5 місяців тому +1

      @Viewtoagrill you did a great job. This is ALWAYS a difficult subject. Folks who are new to bbq just want "the best" cooker, meat, recipes etc. We know from all the years of doing bbq that there's just to many variables. In my opinion there isn't really any "best" answers to most of these types of questions. But the newbies who ask these questions don't understand that. And you can have ten top pitmasters who could answer ten different ways. That said it is fun to discuss right? And beer, drink lots of beer while discussing. 😁👍🍻🔥
