Fun fact: Kanye actually took the joke well but still to this day has no idea what the joke was about. He thought that the whole premise of the joke was that Matt and Trey were making fun of him by depicting him to be flamboyant and gay. However that wasn’t the joke at all. The joke was that Kanye just doesn’t understand jokes and it kind of worked out beautifully for Matt and Trey cause he literally proved it for them.
Bill Hader also worked on the episode with Matt and Trey. He talks about a lot of stuff that went on behind the scenes in a interview.
He didn't take it at all well. Just 2021 he released a song called Life Of The Party, and he raps the following:
"South Park had jokes about fish sticks
'Till this day, the whole team can kiss this d*ck"
He's still salty, and it's been over ten years.
I love how Trey Parker went overboard on the auto-tune to make it sound like Kanye
Trey also said he had to learn how to sing off-key on purpose in order for the auto-tune to work.
That comedian was actually caught with stealing jokes
Cartman asked for a different food which resulted in fishsticks being offered. Also Cartman is a master marketer and a keen business sense. No way jimmy would have got any credit for the joke without Cartman.

He was kinda ok with the episode at first and said he'll try to work on himself. Then a week later he he was talking shit about Matt and Trey on stage. Anyone that needs autotune is *not* a musician.
Carlos Mencia (the dude Kanye had killed) stole jokes back in the early 2000s and Joe Rogan famously confronted him on stage at a show. Surprised no one mentioned this in the comments yet.

I found it interesting that Cartman genuinely believed he helped come up with the joke. Even when Kanye threatened him, he still insisted that he helped Jimmy with the joke because that's his reality

It doesn't work over here in England either because we call them Fish Fingers over here and most of us didn't even know Americans called them something else until this episode aired.
The "It's Puff Daddy!" line always gets me. The obvious joke being Cartman is just racist and can't tell black people apart; but there's also an in-universe call back to the episode "Douche and Turd" where Puff really does go to South Park with an entourage.

jimmy 100% wrote the joke but to say cartman had nothing to do with it is false as well. jimmy's joke but review is legitimately part of the creative process and cartman helped jimmy with skipping the first two jokes cause they wouldn't have been as funny and then he gave jimmy someone to bounce off of. If cartman wasn't there, im not sure jimmy would have come up with it cause he may have told a fireman and a pollack joke which wouldn't have been on jimmy kimmel or all that
