    Let me make this perfectly clear to vegans: Cats NEED meat protein to live. Give your cat a diet of dog food (which is a majority of plant-based protein) for a week and see how fast their health/weight will decline. This isn't an ideological issue, it's a nature issue. Any vegan who forces their cat onto a vegan diet is actively neglecting them. PERIOD!

      Yep, they're obligate carnivores. Tho my cat is a little bit greedy and will eat the dog food if given half a chance because she does not like her very strict diet that she's medically required to eat. She likes the food just fine, it's the strict amounts and meal times.

      Cats not only need protein from meat but also a bit of extra carbon is they are domestic as wild cats get all they need from nature

      @@donaldbarnard7349 they're also incapable of producing some of their own arginine and have an extremely limited ability to produce their own taurine, both essential amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and absolutely have to get it from their food. Plants don't have taurine at all, so even if they could digest a vegan diet, which they can't, they'd still not be able to survive on a vegan diet.

      Furthermore, as anyone who's ever owned a cat or a dog will tell you, they'll go for the meat-based stuff every time. Dogs are descended from wolves and cats are descended from wildcats. Both animals were originally carnivores. Domestication hasn't curbed their craving for meat.

    On the trespassing neighbor, Step 1 put up a no trespassing sign so it is posted.
    Step 2 put up cameras, and call the police to report it to build a paper trail.
    Step 3 if they try to use noise to fight with you, report the noise following your local noise ordinances.
    Good job handling the police once asshat called them.

    Second story, HR telling another employee (outside of HR) what a doctor's note said is a no-no. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen, and it has nothing to do with HIPAA either.

    • @truekurayami
      @truekurayami Рік тому

      Debatable on the contents there were shared and the work structure relationship. The employee's boss being told a ADA issue such as equipment changes, or excused time at the most basic level details would generally be ok as the employee would need to go over that with their boss anyway and may have requested HR to inform the boss in their absence. Telling the random Janitor that handles a completely unrelated area anything would be a major lawsuit if proven.

    • @Wolfie713
      @Wolfie713 Рік тому

      @@truekurayami Think about the wording. "They did not give me details, but told me documentation from her doctor did not justify all of these absences." That's making a reference to what her medical documentation said. If they had simply said that her accommodations didn't justify/allow all of the absences, that would be just fine. OP doesn't need to know the who or why on the accommodations being made, on what the accommodations are (and possibly the reason the accommodations to make sure that they are fitting the person's needs).
      Why is she getting these accommodations? That's privileged information.
      Who (medically) authorized these accommodations? That's privileged information.
      What is the point of a particular accommodation? Well that's a reasonable question because the supervisor may need to be involved to make sure it's working to the person's benefit. Depending on what it is, it might be information that they can be told.
      But being told that a doctor's note (documentation) says or doesn't say is a no-no.

    • @truekurayami
      @truekurayami Рік тому

      @@Wolfie713OP was her boss, "They did not give me details, but told me documentation from her doctor did not justify all of these absences." covers only excused time as in her absences, and only details given was that she didn't have a documented medical exception for at least part of the time she skipped work. The details of the post are so minuscule that most courts would side with the company/op if a lawsuit was brought up.
      Also on the point on "on what the accommodations are" OP was her boss so accommodations, such as time off, that affect schedual, duty assignment, and so on is something OP needs to know to do their job as Karren's boss. Might not need full details but at least some are relavent to OP's job and affect it as well even to the mere fact of getting a temp to cover Karren's work while she was away on short term, for filling the roll out right if she is away long term.

    • @Wolfie713
      @Wolfie713 Рік тому

      @@truekurayami You saying "only details given was that she didn't have a documented medical exception" is exactly the point that I was making. It doesn't matter what the medical notes exempt or not, it's confidential. All OP needs to know is if it's an accommodation that is authorized or not. Even if it's common knowledge why her accommodations are being made for her, it doesn't matter. HR can't disclose what is or isn't in the medical notes from her doctor. There is a separation there even if you can't see it.
      Think about it like this. A new desk has to be provided as an accommodation because the coworker has recently been confined to a wheelchair. Telling OP the accommodation and why (wheelchair) is fine because OP can then arrange for the accommodation. But what OP described is akin to saying the doctor's note doesn't allow for taking their spinal injury meds outside of their lunch break. That's providing information that is confidential. To say that the accommodations doesn't allow for prescription meds outside of their lunch break wouldn't be confidential information.

    Story 2: Karen getting OP's number, from somewhere/someone in the company and calling OP was a HUGE legal issue for OP's former employer. That kind of thing can lead to criminal data security charges for the company and everyone involved. OP could have contacted HR and gotten Karen arrested for that. Not to mention HR f'ed up telling someone outside of HR about and employees doctor's note, even if it was a superior, is an unlawful disclosure of protected health information. Not even the CEO of the company is supposed to have access to the private medical information of an employee. • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 Рік тому +5

      I would in this case but not for an obvious reason like not wanting them to shoot.
      My reason is simple, the way they described their setup sounds unsafe in 2 ways, and firearms safety should be his first concern.
      First, the only thing separating them from the neighbours is apparently a wooden fence, which unless it's also a half mile away isn't good enough. A deflection, ricochet or just misfire puts a round through that fence and they don't know whats on the other side of it. Sure these are unlikely but I dislike this still because mistakes happen and if your firing off enough rounds to be a competent shooter, your firing enough to ensure the law of averages will strike.
      My main peeve though is the one which is actually likely to kill someone. There is no backstop behind their target, they said the garden leads towards a river, so I assume they fire in that direction. That's likely a public waterway which they have no control over, people can easily enter the line of fire without OP been aware (swimmers for example or a fast boat). Then there is the opposite bank and the land beyond, bullets don't care that its undeveloped land (and neither do kids). He needs a solid backstop, an earthen barrier is ideal, 10-20ft tall and a good 5ft thick ideally (depending what he is firing). He could also build a shooting "bunker" with thick walls/back to protect from those ricochet's I mentioned earlier. Honestly it's not hard or overly expensive to make one if you have a half mile of land and a day's spare like OP seems to have. Breezeblock walls, sandbag linings, an inch thick sheet steel roof (you can use other materials but I needs to stop the rounds safely) and your golden.

    First story.... This doesn't seem to be the US. I enjoy shooting too, but in a neighborhood is a no-no. And, a good solid backstop is required, in the rural areas. Shooting over a river or lake is a huge no-no. I can understand the neighbor calling the cops. But lying to the cops is a crime in itself. There are rules and laws to be followed on both sides.
    On days I can't get to the range, I limit my shooting to airguns inside my home - yes, I live alone! And use a proper pellet trap.
    Suppressors ("silencer" is incorrect) require a Class III license here, same as for automatic firearms. Silly, but that's the law.

      I am making assumptions that there were establish and written HR rules and regs pertaining to attendance, punctuality, use of paid/unpaid time off for illness or injury, when physician documentation is required and in what format, performance of assigned duties and ramifications if employee fails to perform such duties, etc. Upon said assumption, Every single infraction of such rules/regs, Karen should have been counseled, either by OP (if such counseling was within OP's job description, and if not in her JD, then by HR), it is called progressive counseling, with every step/level of said counseling documented, documented, DOCUMENTED! Now, if Karen eventually was out of the office under the aegis of the federal mandated FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) leave, that requires specific forms and specifically spells out how it is administered (with medical documentation and a physician statement that such leave is necessary for the patient, the employee in this case, and for how long ...... FMLA covers the employee for 12 weeks within a 12 month period).
      Again with proper documentation, HR would have been covered if Karen had been fired and then tried to sue. OP should have gone over HR's heads and gone to upper management about HR's refusal to do its job properly.

    My dad owns about 1 acre outside of the city limits in an unicorporated part of California so target shooting on private property is actually allowed if its safe to do so. The rules he explained to me were no homes in the area we were shooting, no people, nor animals. We also were not to shoot over a roadway etc. He also had a personal rule of only shooting during daylight hours after 9am and before 9pm. We also liked to use this old motorhome he has as our backstop. Had a neighbor try to call the cops on him for target shooting one day. Cops came out looked the set up over and said just be safe and told the neighbor off as well for wasting the limited resources the county had on stupid shit.

    Story 4: I know it's not representative of most Vegans, but zealots like OP's GF are just the loudest. I think OP rather then just cutting the relationship off right there should have given her an ultimatum, "You except Mittens living with us or this relationship is over, give me your final answer right now." Make her have to decide whether she's going to change, or if she's willing to throw that relationship into the trash. OP has been more then a good boyfriend, he chose to go Vegan for her, but she went too far demanding he change Mitten's diet, then later demanding he get rid of Mittens, and looking at the pic and story details, I'd say Mittens is worth more then a relationship with her. Mittens is super cute and fluffy and sounds like a sweety and a cuddler, it is not easy to find a cat combo like that as many can be unfriendly or just not much of a cuddler, mine only like to cuddle when they want to, kind of unfortunate as they still live at my parent's house and I moved out 2 years ago but can't have pets at my place, I live less then 5 minutes away, but don't visit a ton. So I basically have to pick them up and cuddle every time I come over, they don't bite but don't often like being held too long or may just walk away, yet sometimes they do walk up to me and look like they want attention. Cats can be so wierd and mixed on teir reactions, but they're decently sweet and don't ever bite, just might moan or start squirming if they want down. But I still love them so much.

    So speaking the language of the native people of America as opposed to English is supposed to be racist. I guess I must be a racist also because in English I'm very efficient, however I am poorly conversant in Japanese, Korean, Tagalog ( Filipino) Chamorro, and pretend no Spanish. All right here's the real racist thing, I can say the two most important words in any language "thank you" in 26 different languages, because I am not a racist but as a sign of respect.

    OP uses very poor practices for his gun range. He should have at the very least a built-up berm to catch the stray bullets. I'm surprised the police didn't ticket him. And silencer is a misnomer. The gun still makes a lot of noise.

  • @mikefulton1963

    I think Op or the company he works for could actually take the neighbour to court over the lie that he told. What he did was akin to saying that Op had conducted corporate espionage, and that's no small thing to be lying about. 👀

This Karen is the same kind of person that would preach about 'Cultural Appropriation' during a festival put on by a different culture in order to promote 'Cultural Education'. I don't think Karen meant that OP was racist towards Native Americans. She thinks it's racist to speak something other than English around white people because clearly you have no respect for "American Culture". Sadly, it's not uncommon in America for foreign speakers to be harassed in public for not speaking English. I've got it from people just for practicing my French at a restaurant with my friend from France who comes to visit every year.

    Can I just point out that the neighbour was a moron. He trespasses onto the property of someone who is armed. Now even though he is trespassing, shooting the neighbour would probably result in charges against OP because he was not in immediate danger. Yes, it's the same for normal people as well as cops. Cops are just held to a higher standard. At least in theory. But he would have every right to point the gun at him to get him to leave. If the cops weren't there when the neighbour attacked, he would probably be in the hospital or dead.

    Story 2: You'd be surprised how many natives are white, black, or Latin presenting. The reservation I sometimes have to visit for work has very few "red skinned" Indians. It's normal for people to marry outside of their tribe no matter where you are in the world. And if skin color happens to be one of those things that is different for people in the tribe and out of the tribe, then you're going to start seeing a lot of different skin colors on your tribe.

    YeH, THERE are CLEAR differences of the OP and his Neighbor being either non intentional AND MALICIOUSLY (ILLEGALLY) Intentional. OP with his personal Target shooting practice was being done during the Daytime, when the OP could Clearly warn anyone trying to come on his PERSONAL PRIVATE PROPERTY So they could stay a safe distance away and that way, NOT get hurt. HOWEVER THE BUTT HURT NEIGHBOR REVING UP his CHAINSAW during early EVENING HOUR.... COULD have COPS CALLED ON HIM, for his malicious petty annoyance noise inducing CHAINSAW.... There ARE ACTUAL times in evenings where Anytime AFTER sunset, NOISE POLLUTION LAWS Come into play and neighbor CAN be cited by cops being called by any person calling the police to complain about some guy trying to use a Chainsaw... AT NIGHT!! For No Practical or logical reason. THIS is WHY THE NEIGHBOR DESERVES TO BE CALLED A MAJOR D- BAG, and like I said, Deserves to have the COPS CALLED ON HIM, For keeping ALL the people who live around his house Up and unable to turn into bed. Other people work and NEED to ALSO get up early to prepare to get ready to go to work!!!

    Story 1 - I feel a bit more communication _could_ have avoided a problem. I would have asked the neighbor to let me know if he was on a call / meeting so I could time my practices to be less annoying.
    There's a solid chance the problem might still have arisen, but at least no one would be able to say I hadn't tried.
