    Hi Richard - I thought I'd finally found the solution to my extremely frustrating problem.I imported a route into Basecamp from MRA and followed your guidance to a T, I deleted the track and was left with the trip. I then recalculated twice however my trip did not morph into the the deleted track unlike your video (27:44 mins in). What the chuffing hell am I doing wrong. This is driving me maaaaadddd!!!

      Oh, how annoying! Try the recalc button, which is the middle circular with arrow icon shown at the bottom left of the open route dialog. I gave up with The Navi VI and Baseline and move to a Beeline (which is still great), but have now move to a new Garmin Zumo XT - which makes things infinitely easier, as its wifi, Bluetooth and best of all no Basecamp needed! See my video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/Sf0eiFJB-qM/v-deo.html

    Very good video. I've struggled with downloading from MyRoute to the Nav VI, the track never converted to a route in the Garmin properly. I am eager to try your way! Ride on!

      Glad to hear that Scott. The track looks right, but it's a red herring, best deleted. Just double click on the Route to invoke it's dialog box and then hit its re-calc button and then the route will look great. Remember to zoom in 100% on each waypoint and re-calculate again when all done. Then it's a simple send to device and a file/export if you want to share or archive for a later re-run of the same route. Let me know how you get on!

    Hi great Video’s by the way.
    I wanted to ask you why don’t you just download the route directly from MRA to your sat nav.
    I do this and providing I put plenty of way points in it follows the route perfectly.
    I don’t send the route to other people so that’s probably where it works better to do it through base camp.
    The problem I find is my friend has an old garmin and the maps can not be updated so as you can imagine he often gets sent down the wrong route.
    Many thanks

      MRA uses HERE as their Garmin compatible map equivalent; but there are certainly differences. I plan dozens of very complex routes, down many minor roads, each over 200 miles minimum. When you do that you will certainly see the differences. And if you want to avoid ten people shouting at you on your intercom checking each waypoint at 100% zoom in Garmin is pretty mandatory in my experience. I could use the plug-in to transfer directly, but I'd still have to edit the file in Basecamp anyway. If you or your friend ride a BMW with TFT, the most reliable navigation I've found is to plan routes in MRA using the OpenStreetMap (OSM) format (I plan using the Google Maps overlay, then tidy/finalize with OSM), export as a GPX and import (the 'Track' only) into the BMW Connected app. It works really well on off-road routes too. I use that and a Beeline as a backup, over the Garmin nowadays. By happy coincidence the Beeline also uses OSM, so I can email the same GPX to group riders with BMW's and/or Beeline owners too; and it works perfectly for everyone. In fact I only use the Beeline on my Ducati. Although if I'm doing a proper touring trip, I'll also use the Garmin as a third option on the GSA too. I've owned lots of Garmin and TomToms but will never buy one again. The manufacturer apps / TFT's and Beeline are now really good and cost significantly less. Hope that helps!

      You're welcome Paul! It's even better these days with the Zumo XT, because you can just simply AirDrop the MRA GPX directly into the Garmin Drive phone app, which hot synchs with the XT whenever its next turned on - totally by-passing having to use Basecamp.

    The MyRouteapp guys have been doing Webinars the last three Thursdays, they say only use TRACKS since the GPS will follow the black line on the ground rather than recalculating if you use a ROUTE. Check the past Webinars on the MyRoute website.

    • @RichDunn
      @RichDunn  5 років тому

      I've seen some of the webinars. Tracks seem to be good if parts of your route are off-road, for the reasons you mention. But when converting them to a route that can be followed in the device, they do not seem to work well, based on friends experiences.

  • @BillReitz
    @BillReitz 5 років тому

    I'm on a PC so started with Tyre years ago. I was gifted a years MyRouteapp Gold and really enjoy it. Why do you not use the EXPORT feature on MyRoute ? It would save having to use Base Camp and EXPORT has always worked well for me.

    • @RichDunn
      @RichDunn  5 років тому

      It would, but again friends have experienced problems. And you'll see in my video how the maps should be the same but differ between MyRoutes and the map on the device itself. Generally it will still work whether you use the MyRoute plug-in to send direct to device; or whether you export, then import to basecamp and then send to device. I like to take the extra step for two reasons: (1) I want to keep a 'local' archive of my route files. And (2) because when I'm working with the physical map loaded on my GPS I 'know' it's never going to have a waypoint that is out in theory, I've found it to be the most consistent approach when riding 250-300 miles on very tailored routes, which is what I generally tend to do every day that I ride. As mentioned, there are lots of permutations and different ways to achieve the same end goals, but the video was already 40 minutes long in HD, without going into all of those! So I just chose to share how I plan my routes personally. Appreciate the feedback Bill - enjoy your riding!

      @@RichDunn I did enjoy the video, thank you. I just don't like Basecamp so I use anything to stay away from it.
      Do you know on MyRoute Gold you can compare Garmin Here & Tom Tom routes and make them exactly the same ? There's a webinar for that. 😁

    Richard, just a quick question; how do you configure the Garmin GPS - do you turn off the automatic recalculation, and the highway optins, etc… I believe that this can interfere with the original planned route. What do you say? Thank you.

      I don't have one, so I couldn't say - sorry about that! I'd assume that the easiest way is to put a start and end point and then drag the line like you might in Google Maps for instance?

    Thanks Richard- I've been using Basecamp for a few years and find it 'OK'. I'm debating starting with My-Route as it does seem much easier to use. I have the new Garmin Zumo XT and found the Garmin Drive App very good for sharing emailed routes from the phone to the Sat Nav.
    Sadly I understand that Google wanted a huge increase in fees to continue allowing My-Route access to their maps. Have you discovered a new workaround, other than using the NERE and Tom Tom maps? I'd also heard that it was possible to Michelin Maps in Europe (very good for the scenic routes), do you know if this is still possible?

    • @chrishoskins3503
      @chrishoskins3503 3 роки тому

      Apologies - I can see Google and Michelin maps in the layers menu, I was looking in the Maps (doh!)

    • @RichDunn
      @RichDunn  3 роки тому

      Google has shafted developers the world over by charging exuberant amounts based on the # of waypoints they'll allow developers to utilize (tiered system), while at the same time not offering multi-waypoint planning in Waze, because it will kill all other GPS devices and software in one foul swoop - nice for a monopoly, not nice in severing a huge amount of continuous revenue from these companies. Anyhoo... Like most development companies now, MRA no longer offers a Google base map because it became prohibitively expensive, as you say. However, they do offer a Google overlay map. So while that is displayed, it's visually exactly the same as using the Google Maps site - it's just that after initially planning your route, you then need to change the layer to one of the other options and re-check the waypoints (zoom in on them /adjust as necessary). MRA recommends the HERE base map (pull-down) for use with all Garmin devices. So you can select HERE as the base map, overlay Google Maps as a layer overlay (pop-up, acts like a transparency) on top of that, for initial route planning (more granular detail of e.g. gas stations etc), and then toggle the layer from Google to HERE (so both the base map and the layer are both 'HERE'), to check the waypoints before exporting as a GPX to load into the Garmin devise. It may sound complicated, distinguishing the base map and the layer, but it's very fast to toggle maps or layers at will, mix and matching. And you only have to do it once for it to seem simple. I think MRA has some good deal on until the 31st. Like 50% off or something? Register for a free 30d Gold Membership trial. They'll probably ping you an email with a huge discount. I'm very tight spending money on software. But I've bought a lifetime membership, which should tell you something!

      MyRoute-App is available from the Apple store. But you can also just do everything on the web site itself, which is what I do - that way it doesn't matter if you're Android, Windows, Mac, Chrome, Safari, etc: www.myrouteapp.com
