    Would like to see you modify the 55 gal drum for the planer! Very true about HF prices, changed alot since COVID! Will consider getting this!

      I'll be working on that in the next few weeks and I'll post the video- although it might be smaller, I found a trashcan I can use - thanks for subscribing!

    I have the home depot low profile cyclone and it was $29 when I got it. They are up to $39 now. It works just as well as the taller design. Build a rolling cart for the dust collector and shop vac. Much more useful that way.

      I prefer to keep the dust collector in the back corner and run a junction out to my main work space, I mounted mine on top of a 50 gallon trash can, works great and more time between emptying the can - thanks for subscribing!

      The low profile I got from home depot did not stop much of the dust from getting into my shop vac, I replaced it today with the Bauer and it stops 99% of the dust from reaching the shop vac. The hose that comes with the kit is to soft and also collapses under suction, but still works unless you pick up something that causes a block then it collapses closed.

    5g paint buckets are very sturdy including the lid.
    Also, you don't really need to worry about leaks since the vacuum self-seals

      I agree on the lids, I'm in the process of mounting to a large trash can - leaks will mostly self seal but If I don't secure the top, the vacuum will not seal the lid completely, I recommend getting another lid - thanks for subscribing!

    12/1/2022 It seems HF changed their lid a bit, it's thicker and added a fitting in the box.

    Thoughts on this with drywall dust?

    • @snapwholeharborfreightreviews
      @snapwholeharborfreightreviews  5 місяців тому

      if you could get it close to what you are sanding with, there would be a lot less cleanup, but it would work with drywall, some dust might get past the separator (drywall dust if very light weight), I've not tried it, but it should work ok - thanks for subscribing!

    Plastic bottles and a heat gun and you can shrink wrap fittings to hook hoses together.

      I'll give that a try, sounds interesting, althought I'll probably need a 1 liter soda bottle to get one big enough for that 2 1/4 inch hose - I've gotten a lot of suggestions on my videos about how to make fittings, this is the only one that I've even considered trying - Thanks for subscribing!

      @@snapwholeharborfreightreviews I have also used pvc fittings and turned them on my lathe to get better fit up.

    I bought this thing, flimsy and crushes my bucket evertime when using it

    • @snapwholeharborfreightreviews
      @snapwholeharborfreightreviews  Рік тому

      the lid is flimsy on the first version, but I have heard HF improved the lid, but I don't have personal experience to confirm that - the simplest solution would be a plywood disk under the lid, the closer the disk is to the size the bucket sides the bucket, the better it will work, but you should not have bandaid a new tool - I am interested in how it crushes your bucket? others will be interested in the details before they buy one (or not) of these - search youtube for bucket collapse - is this the same thing? if so, its not the cyclone, very common problem from using a shopac that is too powerful for the bucket you are using - thanks for subscribing

    2 years later n the price is still the same

    • @snapwholeharborfreightreviews

      HF prices are strange, I would expect it to increase in price over time for most manufacturers, but I think HF's profit margins are HUGE, and that affects when they increase prices, there was a huge price leap to go along with the post 2000 runaway inflation, but other than that, most prices appear stable, HF also discontinues a lot of products and relabel them as part of a different tool line for 2x as much - thanks for subscribing!

    "A couple of options for that" One would be to take it back and go buy something with standard fittings. I got this gizmo on sale to save money only to have to spend more money to make it fit industry standard shop vac hoses and fittings....not worth it.

      the problem with standard fittings, is there are several standard fittings, if you are calling the shop-vac brand the standard, they have multiple standard sizes - I have a 3d printer that I use to print adapters for each tool I have 20 tools I need to hook up to dust collection, and most of them need a custom adapter - the size of the hose is actually standard for the size of the shop-vac, the bigger the shop-vac the bigger the hose, I'm thinking they are sizing the hose for it's intended usage, thinking who wants a 2 inch hose for a scroll saw? same for a shop-vac to clean out your car(small) vs using it for dust collection on a jointer (larger) - shop-vac type vacuums are made for general use, not just dust collection - thanks for subscribing!
