Great review, I have an older model Prado, bought new in 2009, nearly ten years old and never had any issues or recall. Done 200000km, only had gone through second sets of tyres, and first set of brake pads. Love Toyota fixed price service up to 100000km at $180 per service and twice a year. So comfortable and quiet.
Sorry but as a 200 series owner & former Prado owner there really is no comparison, the 200 is superior in almost every area that counts . Handles better on road, really nice powerful v8 Diesel apposed the lethargic 4 cylinder, better off road with kdds package, can tow anything with 650 nm, more interior space & better refinement. Seriously what drugs are these reviewers on?
Peter Chown the prado really is the better car (especially the 120 because it has the legendary 4.0L v6 option, which known to get a lot torque down at low rpms, and it’s not even a diesel!) It has better approach and departure angles than the 200, it’s lighter than the 200, and most importantly it’s more affordable than the 200, besides they have very similar features so really the prado is a bang for you buck compared to the 200
In America the Prado is a Lexus GX 460 with a 300hp V8. I would love to have the turbo diesel here! We sell a ton of GXs here in the Midwest. Like you said, it's an amazing all-rounder and my wife loves it!
Kirk Kreifels well, in some markets you can get both the Lexus GX and the Land Cruiser Prado. I’ve compared both, and the Toyota is just a better value and better off-reader. The GX has this huge grille that hangs too low to the ground, and the typical Lexus design language where it lowers the side steps, fenders and bumpers. Not a fan. Plus the LC Prado has lots of engine options, including a 95hp diesel that’ll hit 60 in 19 seconds, up to a 4.0 liter V6 from the 4Runner that has 270hp. Just a bit less than the GX.
I would agree if it wasn’t for that 4cyl in the Prado, it’s pretty lame. They should have kept the v6. The V8 in the 200 is simply stunning and a perfect match for that car. Size is not that much of an issue to be honest, you get used to it pretty quickly, especially with all those surround cameras, it parks really easily into most spots.
TheStefster Yeah! In some countries, LC Prado did not kept the V6 ! Where I'm living It's still available, aside this 4cyl diesel ! But, this V6 starts to get old, Toyota should consider/think about a new V6. Something like V6 Turbo or Twin diesel/gasoline! Agree, the LC200 V8 twin turbos diesel, is really perfect and stunning!

Russell H And land rover informations, about how much it chews diesel, you can put it up ! And even more up when mecanics problems will happened very fast to the engine !
Djork Solo Well, I own one, so I know how much fuel it uses yes. I get 9.5l/100 on the fwy. 10l/100 at 110km/h and 12l/100km when loaded to 3.6 tonnes with 2 spares ARB bar, winch, and 170l of diesel with long range tank which gives me 1460km range when loaded.
The newer engine is smaller in size but has higher torque outputs, what you really need offroading. It's also way more thermally efficient than the v6. I don't see the point in making super fast offroader because the fastest you can go on an urban road is 50km and 20km on a gravel road.
I like prados but I dont think its the best against everest... everest is cheapers in price, has more features, panoramic sunroof, more powerful n refined engine the only think its missing is toyota badge.... if I want to buy 1 that will be an everest....

No y62 Nissan patrol..? Bit dismissive of petrol off roaders. It does have high consumption but a stonking engine and not everyone wants to drive from perth to Brisbane off road.
The DPF issue is still a major problem. Adding a manual override button doesn’t fix the failure of Toyota engineers to design an engine which works with a DPF. Toyota dealers will still tell you that the DPF is a serviceable item which will need replacing approx every 40k kms or 2years at at cost of around $4-5k. So manual override doesn’t fix the DPF issue which is and should be a deal breaker for both city and 4x4 buyers.

The Toyota dealer network is hardly a selling point in my opinion, have taken my Hilux to several due to my companies service requirements and each time has left a very bad taste in my mouth, they charge like wounded bulls for unnecessary service, $130 for ‘clean rear diff breather’, $90 for a pollen filter, removed the transmission unnecessarily to replace an upgraded clutch, spring left loose on front brake caliper, and that is not the full extent of it.
