What's sad in the exchange is that after Henry VIII's death, when Elizabeth is living with Catherine and her new husband Thomas Seymour (Jane's brother), he develops a "creepy uncle" relationship with the princess. Some scholars think this early abuse is one of the reasons Elizabeth never marries.
Meredith Hagan Part of why Elizabeth never married was because she saw what happened between her parents and the other four wives. She is rumored to have asked after Anne's execution, "How haps it that yesterday, I was Lady Princess, and today but Lady Elizabeth?" She certainly was old enough to see what happened with Anne of Cleves and another Howard relative, Catherine Howard.
Meredith Hagan I think that if Catherine had known what a douchebag Tommy Seymour was, she might have not married him and risked the honor and virtue of her favorite stepchild.
It really is too bad that the series is ending here with Henry.... It would be awesome to see Elizabeth's eventual rise to power (and Edward and Mary's rules as well that led up to E taking the throne)...

You can't possibly blame Mary for being suspicious. I mean, it was because of her first stepmother, Anne Boleyn that her happiness was crushed. Because of Anne, her father divorced her mother and sent her away, while declaring Mary illegitimed. Not only that, but she had also to live with her half-sister, who looked like Anne, and then watch her father marry other women. In fact, I think she had a good relationship with only two of her stepmothers: Jane and Anne of Cleves. With Katherine Parr, despite their initially good relationship, the fact the last wife of Henry was raising Ellyzabeth and Edward in the Protestant way caused her to lose Mary's favor.
