I poured boiling water over poppy seeds and let them soak for an hour or so. Drained and rinsed them after, and smashed them in pestle&mortar to release their flavor. I learned this from my grandmother who used poppy seeds a lot in her baking.
I am from Germany and know a lot of cakes with poppy seeds and I love them all! 😊 I also know this filling but this dough is quite unusual. We usually use shortcrust pastry, but I will try your recipe. I wanted to add that you have to grind the poppy seeds otherwise the cakes taste a bit weird... 😉
My Grandmother was from Czechoslovakia and used poppy seeds a lot in her baking. I adore them !!! Especially when there are a LOT of them, like in your recipe. Going to make this. Thx !
Oh yeah beautiful cake i would love to taste it I like poppy seeds so much also I'm from the 4th largest poppy seed producer country so another reason why i love these stuffs so much.
You can very easily make a vegan version by substituting milk with plant milk, butter with margarine/vegan butter, the egg with 2 tbsp chia seeds soaked in a bit of water and some soy yoghurt. I measured just 700ml of milk because the joghurt is of course thinner than ricotta, but it worked very well :)
I have been following your channel foe a while, I have tried your many recipes a lot, I love them all. I love to try this one as well, but is possible to skip the cheese? Thanks!
Looks delicious I have'nt tasted poppy seeds before and I don't think we have it in my country. Are there any replacements? Can I make it without them?
That depends. Contrary to what you've been told by the other guy, poppy seeds do in fact have narcotic properties. Particularly, raw, unwashed poopy seeds, will contain an opium coating. The most common poppy for culinary purposes, the breadseed/opium poppy, is narcotic in every aspect. Typically, the seeds are washed, usually at high temps, with water and agitated, to remove this coating. Short answer: yes they can but won't if they're already washed. Please use caution if obtaining raw seeds.

I like it more without grinding because of the scrunching

Hi! I am from Germany and we don't use ricotta for these kind of cakes but "Quark". But you can easily replace it with cream cheese.
Can eat poppy seeds so much ? 😮

No. Seeds dont have narcotic properties. And poppy seed for consumption is whidout narcotic properties at all.
no, but you'll fail a drug test
