I just earlier had my first experience cooking fried rice just last week, mine's kimchi with Crabmeat and prawns btw! One great thing about this particular dish from a beginner standpoint, is that it is very forgiving in terms of what you can use that's available. So nothing Singaporean about our Fried Rice tbh, and feel free to experiment and have abit of a laugh!
    Greetings from Singapore!

As a Chinese-Indonesian who frequently travels to Singapore, I have never ever ever heard of Singapore Style Fried Rice.
    Singapore Style Noodles? Yes.
    Singapore Style Fried Rice? No.
What is it with British people and eating their rice with fork (and knife too)? I will never understand this.
And Jamie. WHERE YOUR WOK??? WHERE YOUR WOK??

If you're going to use roots then you'll want something with a bit more color, like carrots. Stem veggies like celery are probably a better bet. I think potatoes are a little too starchy to be used in a fried rice. Sorry for your experience, but I'm sure it'll be better next time!

root veg could work great. but veg that needs a lot of cooking like potatoes/brocolli should be steamed first before stir frying in the pan.

A couple of options for potato and parsnip. Plus possibly a small onion :
      1. Creamed potato and parsnip soup.
      2. Mirepoix of potato, parsnip and onion. Sauteed, and served with a fried egg on top.

If you can eat spicy food, try to stir fry rice with potatoes, Lao Gan Ma SPICY CHILLI Crisp OIL & SAUCE, and some salt to taste. Make sure your potato is cut in small size and not overcooked. You will be amazed at the results ^_^

Next time you could use a SAMBAL paste instead of curry paste, and crack the egg straight into the rice before you put the soy sauce/seasoning and stir/fried it all together (to feed 6-7 people you only need TWO EGGS, so it won't be a wasting thing to do). It will make a huge, delicious different 😋. Good luck!

Some people are getting all up in arms about how it’s called Singaporean fried rice when Singapore ourselves don’t have a national fried rice dish. Just to clarify - I am Singaporean myself.
I do understand that the term “Singaporean fried rice” sparks arguments because of its reductionist nature, glossing over the medley of cultures and religions in our country and not being representative of all of them. Fried rice is ubiquitous in our country - every race and ethnicity has their own version.
However, I think we all need to be understanding here - food is such a subjective and fluid concept. Although people are understandably territorial about their country’s foods, we can’t expect people from other countries to have the exact same notion of our country’s food when they re-create the dishes. They’re bound to do it their way, subject to their tastebuds, and their experiences of when they came to Singapore and had our food. I think it’s great that Jamie is re-creating the dish in a way he knows how, it helps put our food out there to his audience who might not have travelled to Singapore yet. It gives them that first step to spark their interest and it’s up to them to, hopefully, come to Singapore themselves and try out all the variations we have of fried rice.
Let’s get food to unite us, not separate us.

I think you are missing the point of why singaporeans are upset about this. As a Singaporean i am fine with him labelling it as fried rice, NOT Singapore fried rice. It is misleading and honestly has 0 representation of our food culture. Not to mention that it looks kinda gross. Imagine if you've never been to Singapore and you see THAT as a representation of Singapore style fried rice, would YOU be curious? Or totally turned off. Especially if you are a potential tourist from ANY asian country that has fried rice.

"No no no no not this jamie oliver again. this is tortuse. uncle roger dont be depress again.
But uncle roger niece and nephew requested, uncle roger react. we see we see
Jamie oliver said he want to do singaporean style. we see we see. but malaysian egg fried rice is tastier. 😏
What the heck vegetable he use. the purple color, black like vegetable. Haiyaaaa.
Egg fried rice, usually yellowish whitish in color. u put the purple vegetable, i know u will be fukced up. Haiyaaaa
Usually Asian we put 1 or 2 vegetable in egg fries rice. more than 2 mean its like salad. Plus he will cook with olive oil.
Jamie use garlic. ok ok. look like asian style. we see we see
wait wait wait. is it that olive oil. see. uncle roger already said. he use olive oil. he dont to make egg fried rice. he want salad fried rice. 😏
Pancake? is he said pancake? haiyaaa
wait wait wait. what is that? rice with noodle
rice with noodle. 😭😭😭 *leg dropped to ground*
If u want to add noodle, dont use name egg fried rice. its egg fried noodle. But asian never cook together rice and noodle. 😭
He said random again, i think he really open the restaurant because of random. 😔
He use the curry paste. ok ok, usually asian use chille paste. but this time he didnt use jam.
    Again, No MSG. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Egg look good, but the rice look fukc up. haiyaa"
Hoping for uncle roger to react for this one
