Just finished this book...definitely a great read for all Christians who want to get to know the Blessed Mother a little better. BTW-it's a short and easy read...can't wait to read the rest of his books.
A sword will pierce your heart... I continue to hear this interpreted as sorrow for Mary because of Jesus's passion.... But the way it is worded and the verse that precedes it makes me wonder... I think it means that Mary's own thoughts and motivations will be revealed by her experience with Christ, just as those of many in Israel will be revealed. The Word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword, able to separate between bone and marrow. Jesus came to reveal us to ourselves. Jesus is the turning point between who we think we are and who we truly are. He reveals and confronts us with who we think we are, then shows us who we truly are. He did this throughout His ministry. I think Simeon was telling Mary that even she who bore the Word of God will be revealed by the One she bore.
