I have made 6 sets already, which include a matching hat, am working on 2 more designs, and in different sizes from 4-pound preemies to 0-3 months. I've used different colors, textures and fibers. I added a slight modification, but love the simplicity of your video! I wish I could send you a picture of my designs :-)
For some reason my cocoon is large - I thought maybe my stitches were bigger and so used a smaller hook and still getting bigger. Not sure what I am doing wrong!
Great Video!!! Do you have a pattern for a preemie baby angel gown or cocoon? We would make these to donate to various NICU's in our area. They are also referred to as baby demise gowns. Sizes start around 1 - 2 pounds. Thank you so much for all the work you do and share with us.
my senior center ladies are doing blankets and hats to donate to the NICU's but they have asked for premie stuff so I am the only one who knows anything other that a chain, slip stitch or HDC stitch so I will try this. they have asked for BOATS that the parents of premies can hold the babies in so they wont be so scared of dropping them or hurting their thin skin. do you know what they are talking about?
Hi Yvette , I love this pattern , it's simple but when crocheted with the yarn bee or Caron it gives this simple pattern a beautiful sheen . Just would like to make a comment , I used same exact yarn and same exact size hook , yarn bee soft secret and a size "J " hook , I did 38 rows and maintained my stitch count and my cocoon came out to be 20 inches long and 9 inches wide , a little bigger but I don't mind . Thank you for the pattern
I love this .. And I am making one now. But for some reason my width is larger then 8" my yarn is a light pink worsted weight and I am useing a J Hook idk y I keep getting a large size measurement I followed u exactly. I even pulled it apart 3 times to figure out what I did wrong but every time it's come out the same witch I get 10" / 11"
Hi Shannon, Thank you! In all honesty, the yarn will make a huge difference. For this pattern, I use either Caron's Simply Soft or Yarn Bee Soft Secret from Hobby Lobby. These yarns don't have as much stretch and elasticity as some yarns and they are really soft with a nice sheen. When you use a standard yarn, for some reason it enlarges and does not flow the same and look the same I have found. I hope this information is helpful. Have a super day! :)
+Aimee Scanlon Awesome! It is super easy pattern if you already know how to crochet :0) And, you can add flowers or ribbon bows and things if it is a girl to make it a little cuter. Have fun! :0)
Kate Nicholson This is worsted. However, I use Yarn Bee Soft Secret (Hobby Lobby) or Caron's Simply Soft only for this pattern. It will not come out the same if you use another type of yarn (cheaper, scratchy, stiff). The recommended yarns (even though they may be considered worsted weight) are different quality/texture. They are softer, silkier, they drape very nicely and they don't have that elastic feel when you pull on a strand. It is much softer on baby skin in my opinion. And, the pattern just does not come out the same when using a different type of yarn. I hope this helps. Have a super weekend! :0)
It is sort of like a baby blanket or bunting only a little looser, so it is not super tight around a newborn and I remember my when mine were that tiny, they liked to be really swaddled tightly. There are no unsafe small parts to fall off. In my personal experience, I would have allowed my babies to sleep in in for a nap, but maybe not all night as it might come off with wiggling around and they might be a little chilly. I hope this helps. :0)
Tuba Amiri If you use the recommended yarn, you should only need one skein for both pieces. I think this is about 300 yards per skein. If you use another yarn, it will not come out the same size. I hope this helps :0) Have a great weekend!
I used a red heart yarn to practice with & I have 63 in each row but it keeps getting bigger as I go up. I have the stitches as tight as possible, but I'm only on row 13 & it is almost 10 & 1/2 ins. wide. It's getting wider as I go up.
+Shirley Ledbetter Hi Shirley, I don't recommend using any other yarns than the ones I mention. They are different in consistency and the way they work up. Other yarns, just don't work for this pattern...ok for practice, but the pattern will not turn out correct...usually huge! :0) I highly recommend either Yarn Bee Soft Secret or Caron's Simply Soft. These are the main ones I use for most of my baby items.
Hi Sharrla..Thank you.. I'm so glad your aunt enjoyed it! I have a few written patterns available here including this one: www.ravelry.com/designers/yvette-marie
rebaw54 You will probably need to adjust the size. You may even try to use a little larger hook, but I can not guarantee this will work out correct. I hope this is of some help :0) Have a super weekend!
Hi Chris, This should fit an average newborn to about 3 months or so. Depending on size at birth, it may fit a little longer for tiny petite ones, or not if baby isn't as petite. :0)
Hi Roberto, My website for my crochet items is www.etsy.com/shop/YvetteMarieDesigns. My patterns here: www.etsy.com/shop/YvetteMariePatterns. And, my jewelry here: www.etsy.com/shop/InnerBalanceJewelry. Thank you for asking, Have an amazing weekend! :0)
