  • This crochet baby hat and cocoon tutorial by Kristi Simpson showcases a beautiful baby set you can give to the little ones in your life or even mothers to be. This crochet pattern uses cascade yarn and a 9mm hook. Since the yarn being used is a bulky yarn and the hook is also large, the pattern makes up in no time. Additionally, the large hook size spaces out stitches, which makes them easy to find and handle, which is a factor in why this piece makes up so quickly. When crocheting this baby pattern, don’t pull stitches tight as loose stitching is much easier to work with in this design. Make the perfect baby gift set or new baby set for the mom with this cocoon crochet tutorial.

This is the very first baby beanie and a cocoon I am making for a dear friend's baby coming in April 2025. This project turned out just as adorable as the one you've made. THANK YOU for such a helpful tutorial 🌺🐝

Thank you for the most easiest tutorial ever, and I'm in the UK and even managed to get my head around the difference in single crochet/double crochet.
This is going to be my go to gift for friends who've had babies. Thank you once again Kristie 😃👍

Oh, how I wish you finished this... I started so well. Then the double stitch instructions at the end without showing the work made it just loopy for me.

I made the hat. It looks really small but I think it's because I have a smaller hook. Im going to add an additional increase row and see how it turns out. The store didn't have the size hook so I'm going to have to figure out how to make it work.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have bulky yarn with a J hook (5.75 mm)

The pattern says to use a weight 4 yarn is that correct? You said a bulky yarn?

I am using a bulky yarn, size 6...You said you were using bulky but I don't know what size that is. It could be a 5 or 6...just bulky or super bulky?? Also I am using a smaller hook than you said. I am using an 8mm hook. Even with the super bulky yarn and a smaller hook this number of increases is turning out SUPER big in circumference (about 12-13 inches when laid flat)! It would be much to big for a new born. I pulled it back out until I got that last row of increase out and I am trying it that way. So I stopped increasing after the 1, 1, 2 round. It is shaping up MUCH better for a new born size (about 9-10" when laid flat). Also I am going to make this 18" long instead of the 15" suggested.

It would be helpful if you could show what stiches you’re working in to on the hat. The downward angle is making it very difficult to figure out :(
