Thumbs up for recording and uploading custom work. I am one of those who just does it and takes no pics or vids so I deserve the abuse I get when I have nothing to show but the finished product and the trolls are like "sure you did that yourself.... you bought it lol".. As they say " pics it didn't happen".
Awesome video, super helpful tips! Looking forward to seeing the end result, I'm building a Shadow bobber this winter and was thinking about doing the same to my tank.
This should be helpful for me. My friend and I are both building hardtail choppers out of VLX 600's. His tank has a dent and decals. Mine is perfect, stripped and primed for paint. However, I am using an aftermarket skinny tank and he wants the stock tank. So I am going to trade mine for his and since his is already dented I am going to dish it out. Then decide either to sell it or keep it as a spare. I always loved that look.
Me too. I’ve been staring at pics online and finally just gave it a shot. My strong advice though is to have the tank professionally cleaned if it’s needs it. Mine needed it bad after I did this and I tried to clean and seal it myself. That was an expensive mistake…. Good luck!
My little brother gave me a weak puny 250cc Honda Rebel. I appreciate the gift, but he drop it on both side, and dented it on the tank both sides. Great idea, something I'm gonna try maybe
I took a class to get my license and that’s what they have us ride. Fun for the class which is just in a parking lot. But it was funny how big it made my 600 feel! Good luck with the tank!
Looks awesome man thinking about doing the same to my v star I don’t really like the wide rounded look kinda skeptical but think I’m gonna just bite the bullet. Great work bro
Bravo on the video Mark. I did the same on my Vic. I don't mind the extra fuel stops. Opportunity for people to notice the the work. Chem stip and re seal the inside before you do your finish work priming and painting...ride on brother.🤘
Great job. Probably worth trying taking the ball end of the small hammer and grinding it and polishing it to a less pointy ball. I’m going to try this to give clearance channels on the tank for my forks to increase my turn
I didn’t. I should have. I used bondo to smooth out all my dents. I sanded it down then used a high build primer from a spray can and sanded that. I painted it with krylon spray paint. I then used a 2k clear coat and followed the directions on the can for that. I got that on Amazon. The 2k clear coats protects the paint if any gas spills on it. I can tell you it works really well since my original gas cap leaked all over it!!
Hey Bro you doing fine you know as well as I do there's more than one way to skin a cat as they say finished product looks fine besides you got to ride it Keep it between the mustard and mayo and rubber side down GBU later
@@markferioli208 i respect the shadow for what it is, what i don't respect is trashing a perfectly great bike that is really hard to find now a days. You could have used a diferent tank and could have achieved much better looks.

I too am a woodworker who also likes to modify my bike. Thank you for this video. 100% going to do this, Ive always wanted a dished tank.
Good luck man! I’m hoping to make more videos this summer

Cause they can’t do it themselves so they have to bash others work or abilities to do the work.

Thanks man! Check out my channel. You’ll see the finished product in my bobber update video.
Great video, I've also got a 93 vt600 this video will help me as the last owner managed to get the right side fue/mix screw jammed in the carb
This is bad ass, I may using this soon on my build , Thank you for the video !
Thanks man! good luck! Just take your time.
Great video bro ,I was looking for something idea like this one for my tank gas .great job
Thanks man!

Dame Dude.....I'm impressed. That really came out good. Good job and thank you for sharing your know how. Thumbs Up.....

Thanks! Ya it’s totally personal preference. Good luck man!
Came out pretty slick! No one will ever know once to skim coat and paint up. Subing to see the outcome on your vlx👍
I just got it running the other day. Still needs some cosmetic stuff to do so maybe I’ll make a “finishing it up video.”
Be glad to watch

A buddy of mine does pointless dent repair and he polished his ball peen hammer until they are chrome
Thanks. Good idea, never thought of doing that. Next time!
Nice work!
You can't look at both sides at the same time, but you can feel both sides at the same time. Keep going until you can't improve it anymore.
Thanks man! Ya if you check out my update video it’s looks pretty good after bondo and paint
Good to see that clip. I’d like to do the same with an old Tank at first. Not easy but possible. Heinz from Germany
Thanks, Not as hard as you think.
Excellent Share Brother. Thank You
Thanks man!
Mark, have you done a video of when you did the prep and paint?
I plan to do the same but I’m worry about the visible small dents when paint
I didn’t. I should have. I used bondo to smooth out all my dents. I sanded it down then used a high build primer from a spray can and sanded that. I painted it with krylon spray paint. @@maximeroy8622 you’re welcome, good luck!
Never seen anyone do it this way before...labor intensive, but eliminates a lot of welding...interestingly old school, hammering it out by hand...🤔🤔🤔
Ya I was not about to weld/melt my way through the tank. I can weld, but not that thin. So a little hammering and some bondo did the trick!
I actually really like the hammered look
Me too! Nice addition to the look
Nice job...let's see it on your bike ...
Thanks man! I do an update on the bike in this video so you can see it finished there.
ua-cam.com/video/IzBxHBMF50Y/v-deo.html
Why wouldn't you cut out the piece and reverse it and weld .a lot easier.
Because my welding skills aren’t that good and I wasn’t about to pay someone else.
@@markferioli208 fair enough.
I had the same thought. The only drawback might the material lost when cutting.
@@richardturner6481ya but that shouldn’t be a problem for a good welder.
@richardturner6481 Its a difficult skill to weld such thin metal.
Très beau résultat félicitations 👍
Merci beaucoup
Great video! Did you have to reline/coat the inside of the tank?
Definitely!! The tank was in decent shape inside until I hammered. Everything flaked off so it needed to be cleaned and recoated.
Nice work ✌🏻
Thanks man!

Mark. How many gallons less?
I’m not sure. The bike isn’t finished yet, I’ll do a test when it’s done.
Hey man so I never really figured it out but it’s pretty close to a gallon. Which is a decent amount
Indian larry showed everyone on discovery back in early 2000s
Cool

Thanks
Bro it sounds like there's still gas im the tank! 🤯 be Careful
Ya there was a little left... newbie mistake but it all worked out thankfully
Great way to make a perfectly great tank into trash, no disrespect but it looks ugly.
