      It sounds like the Too Fish takes different aspects that Rob liked about the Seaside and the Go Fish. The Go fish looks like your traditional twin-fin fish it also has kind of an aggressive outline and rail which makes it more preformation than a retro twin-fin fish. The Seaside is a quad setup with split keel fins and also has a pretty aggressive outline. It sounds like the major difference between these two boards is the bottom contours, the Go Fish has a single contour(?) through the fins (not sure on that) there might also be some sort of channel (he says something about this in the video) and the Seaside has a deep V double contour through the fins. The Too fish sounds like the bottom contours are similar to the Go fish, but there is some refinement. I think the major difference between the Seaside and the Go fish is the size of surf that they can hold in. It looks like Rob surfs the seaside in bigger pumping swell (I think in another video he talk about how he designed if ride tubes but I'm not 100% on that) and he surfs the Go fish in Weaker smaller swell. This is probably due to the hold that each board offers based on the fin set up and outline but that is speculation.

    I used to LOVE watching Rob surf. He quite literally made going straight down the line look like the most stylish thing in the world. Anyone who watched the 1995 Billabong Challenge will no doubt appreciate that… Especially since he was styling it out at Gnaraloo which, as anyone who has ever had the fortune/misfortune (please delete as appropriate) to surf will tell you is especially impressive. That place takes some serious commitment. However… As soon as he started riding these obscure single and twin-fins and generally “niche” boards, I lost all interest in watching him surf. The first time I noticed it was around the time that “Shelter” came out and I noticed his surfing didn’t excite me anymore. Are they fun boards to ride? Sure! But (in my opinion - don’t shoot me!) these boards literally dictate how you can and can’t surf to an extent that, to me, it always kinda looks like he’s surfing around the limitations and quirks of his boards. I would give ANYTHING to see him spend an extended period of time on an actual performance board because I guarantee he’ll still absolutely rips and is a million times more stylish than our current crop of air-reverse-spamming robots. But will I be buying a fish he designed? Unfortunately not. I LOVE boards with wide tails but I also want to feel like there is some actual dialled-in performance there. So… Rob… If I could rub a lamp and wish to surf like ANY surfer who ever existed, it would 100% be you in the mid-to-late-90s. Since then, I’m sure you’re having an absolute blast but for us mere mortals who can’t afford a 15-board quiver, the fish is out I’m afraid.
    Oh… And France (I assume Hossegor?) is the absolute last place I’d take a fish. I’ve never surfed somewhere that you need a healthy dose of tail rocker more than you do in southwest France. I’ve surfed plenty of waves in Indo with really flat boards but there’s something about those dumpy beach breaks that (again, in my opinion) requires a fair bit of rocker.

    as a regular footer myself don't pay much attention to goofies but when it comes down to Rob Machado everything changes he's def one of best goffy tube riders ever and the style is off the charts. • @nomoreluke
      @nomoreluke Рік тому +1

      Do you mind if I ask… Why don’t you pay attention (in general) to people who surf goofy? I’m goofy but I’ve never really thought like that and I’m intrigued. Maybe that’s why I used to love watching Rob and Occy surf so much back in the mid-90s… Maybe it was unconscious bias. I’d just never thought about it. Saying that, I looooove (and loved) watching AI and JJF as well.
      Oh, and by the way, if you are anything like me, the reason that you hate Medina’s (and others’) “style” might be because of their 2-stage bottom turns. They literally NEVER draw a proper bottom turn line - there’s always a mid-turn “pump” and it absolutely infuriates me. Took me AGES to work out just what it was that I HATED about their style but one day it just hit me… I used to judge surf comps (to a relatively high standard) back in the early 2000s and, if I were on a panel now, they’d be getting downscored HEAVILY for not being able to draw out a bottom turn properly. Haha.

    • @entubaotraducciones272
      @entubaotraducciones272 Рік тому

      @@nomoreluke it makes lotta sense now what you mention that two step bottom turn thing which I guess they do so to get that extra speed as those are the kinda guys will go looking for airs right off the bat but yeah it def breaks the line and yes that's a huge thing thanks for sharing your breaking down of it and about me not paying attention to the goofies is just for let say learning reasons in the sense that there's really nothing in the practical sense from a goofy footer for a regular cuz it's all different once ur front foot is either left or right and even Kelly has mentioned it in some interviews how he's body is now so screwed given surfing is such an imbalanced sport in the sense that some parts of the body are used much more than other depending on which side you lean on etc and so if I see all the regulars like Curren, pat gadauskas or whatever the spelling, parko, Mick, Kelly, Taj, Andy, and the list goes on an on I can pay attention to the details that then I can replicate but if I do the same with the goofies, clay marzo for instance, probably my best goofie to watch right at the top of my mind, I can't try to replicate anything he does cuz the body experience is completely difference, and I guess that's also why unlike in skateboarding the switch stand has never really been a thing in surfing cuz it's such an almost impossible thing to do. I mean I've seen a seven time world champ woman live going switch hitting a reentry going goofie, she being natural footer, and was kinda embarrassing hehe if not knowing she was switch! Knowing that it was mind blowing instead. Dunno if I've made any sense despite the length but I hope so. And on top of that I'm goofie on a skateboard so again can't use the skate to practice or improve my surf, unfortunately I guess
