Love this series of tips. How about one on the steep roll up like what Lance did in this video? 🙏

A Eureka moment for me: Just keep your weight over the BB/cranks!
I'm prone to getting as far back as possible, usually too far, and consequently losing front-wheel traction and control.
Judging the right amount of back, and worrying about being too far forward have always been issues.
But, if I focus on keeping my weight centered and pivot the bike at the BB, I should do a lot better.
    Thanks guys!
    Cheers

I gotta admit it,... Even though I f*cking hate rain, but ... It actually made the video more majestic! 😁👌 , Great video as always!

This is great for the occasional steep roller here in Arkansas. Great for the next time I ride Moab.

That rain audio... could almost feel the drops hitting my arms. Everything is rollable if less than 90 degrees. Only question: Is the landing is survivable, and will it break your ankles?

This is a very timely video, Jeff! I was stopped in my tracks on a trail called Copperhead at Bryce Bike Park yesterday because I didn't know if one section was rollable or not. First time on the trail, and I had no idea it was coming. Really caught me off-guard. Thanks for this info!! 👍👍

Jeff: So before we get into tips, let's talk about what a steep roll down is
Lance: Screw the intro Jeff, I'm going right to the tips!

Be cool to see long sustained rolls where there is either loos dirt going into it and or chunk prior to the roll. I know the same principles apply but still cool to see. I can have these techniques in my mind but the set up kind of blows my psych sometimes

Thanks to you and Lance and your instruction, I’ve conquered my fears and rode the two steepest roll downs in my area. They are approximately 70° to 75° in steepness. I used your technique and progressed fairly quickly. My confidence is soaring!

After watching this a couple of times, I have to ask Jeff, how many hits did your chain and chain ring take? I did notice that Lance lifted his rear wheel just enough to clear when he dropped in.

  • @Randy_Johnson
    @Randy_Johnson 3 роки тому +3

How do you assume the chainring will not bottom out on the edge of the rock as you begin your descent? Do you get off your bike first and roll it over the edge to see if you have clearance? I know you can’t always do that on the trail when you’re riding.

Just lift up the back end if not sure. It's doesn't make you descend any faster, even though it may seem like it.

The one thing that I hate about MTB is that it has been inundated by fashion dandies. Not too many years ago, the trend followers criticized me for leaving the visor on my helmet. Now, MTBers cannot bear to be seen without a visor. It was just a matter of time until what we have here: the fashion police dropping catty assessment on the shirts of a guy giving a technical riding tutorial.
But as long as I have your attention, I have a question about handlebar streamers. Should they be the same color as my helmet, gloves, socks, and pedals? Or should I be putting out a manlier vibe and sport black leather streamers?
