@@bobfarr8822 New Holland Brewing and Distillery out of Holland, MI does a couple, A Beer Barrel Bourbon that is finished in the casks from their own bourbon-barrel aged stout, Dragon's Milk, weird name, good stout. The also have a couple variations of their Zeppelin Bend, which is an American single malt. The Zeppelin Bend Reserve is finished in Sherry Casks.
Then there is Two James Distillery in Detroit that have a collection of Whiskeys. Grass Widow Bourbon, Catcher's Rye Whiskey, and J. Riddle Peated Bourbon, 79% Corn, 21% Scottish Barley. The Peated Bourbon is on my shelf and may become a staple.

For cleaning Glencairns. Silicone baby bottle brush makes it super easy, and on the extremely rare case it manages to shatter anyway, your hand isn't inside the damn glass at the time, so at least there's that!

I’m lazy as all hell so I just swish scalding hot water around the glencairn with my hand capping the top of the gelncairn to prevent water going everywhere, nose the glencairn till no scent is present, then shock it with cold water if I intend to reuse it immediately, then dry with a microfibre towel like the kind you can get from autoparts stores in bulk.

When I was at the TC Whiskey Co. Distillery in mid July of 2019, they said this whiskey was bottled for the TC Cherry Festival of 2019. Half way through July, they had 9 cases left so I had to grab a bottle! It costed around $90. Just thought I would share. Cheers! 🥃

Just bought a bottle of this today. It is available only at the distillery or one of Traverse City Whiskey Outpost bars. The Outpost I bought mine from is in Ferndale, MI (near Detroit) and the other is in Traverse City. You can sample all the barrel proof offerings for $6 each . They also offer a barrel proof wheat whiskey, rye and a strait bourbon.

THANK YOU, gentlemen! I am very new to whiskey overall and bourbon in particular. My first taste of any whiskey occurred last year with Blanton’s (which, believe me, is saying something)... Wow. Can’t believe I’ve never tried anything before. Such a loss! I’m now a convert! Been watching your programs for a little while now and really am learning so much from you. So far I’ve tried Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, Maker’s Mark, Four Roses (single barrel - yum!), John Bowman (small batch and single barrel - single barrel, wow...), and McKenna. I’m REALLY drawn to Blanton’s and Four Roses right now and of course Buffalo Trace is really nice. My next one to try was going to be Blade and Bow (trying to work my courage up to a stronger proof to experiment). So far I’m just trying one bottle at a time (rather than comparisons); however, I will undoubtedly try a bourbon bar at some point to do a bunch of side-by-side comparisons. Regardless, thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
I have a question, though. If all bourbon is made in new charred oak, and I understand in the US there are two main suppliers, how is it if, all things being equal (same general mash bills no flavors added, same storage/curing, etc), why is there such a seemingly vast difference between “notes”? How is it some have “cherry notes”, while others more dominated by caramel, vanilla, etc? Other than the mash bills, what is the most important factor driving the development of these flavors beyond what is expected? Is it where the raw materials were originally grown (I.e. differing soil conditions between grain suppliers)? Thanks in advance!

How my local store does rare whiskies is it depends on how much you spend at the store. Like they had two bottles of pappies and for every a certain weekend every $20 you spent you get a raffle ticket for a chance to buy it at MSRP.

Not all of the drawing charge to get in. It is just a way to register that you are interested in buying it. If you don't pick up, it goes to the next person. In my state, secondary sales are illegal, so the state holds the raffle as an equal opportunity to get the opportunity to purchase at retail prices.

    Two good things here:
    1) Baby bottle brushes are great for glencairn cleaning. Then rinse in a bath of hot water and air dry upside down. Perfect glassware each time.
2)Beard blowouts are a thing. Doesn’t have to be after the shower, just every couple of days. Blower in low, rollout with a round brush from the bottom up and rolling out. Run in some balm and brush with a regular beard brush. Look great.
There are other YT videos on proper cleaning of bar glassware and beard blowouts you can watch, I won’t link them. Search is your friend.

The Glencairn crystal from Glencairn are, according to the company, dishwasher safe. I put mine in the top rack all the time. Their description:
    6-3/4-Ounce Capacity
    Lead free crystal
Tapering mouth allows an ease of drinking capturing the aromas on the nose. The wide bowl allows for the fullest appreciation of the whisky's color
    Dishwasher safe
Perfectly styled for the fullest enjoyment of whiskey

Gotta say I love Oregon's system with those special bottlings...mostly.
They have to be sold at rrp, it is first come first serve, and you can check the website to see when and at which liquor stores the bottles drop.
On the other hand, that means people that work a job with clients they can't flex are stuck missing out sometimes on the day their prized thing drops.

Traverse City Michigan is world renowned for its cherries. I live in Michigan have tried quite a few of there Rye's. They definitely use cherry's in most of the mashes. The cherry fruit roll up is spot on, you get it in most of this companies product.

What I think is happening is they are using barrels from other Michigan wine companies that make cherry wines and such.... I don't think it's legal to add cherries to a mash and still call it unflavored whiskey as cherries aren't a grain

Glencairn cleaning: Soak in your preferred cleanser (I use PBW) and then just put them in a drying rack, they air dry with no spots. If spotting is happening maybe you've got hard water?
If airdrying takes too long, buy more glasses, a 6 pack should be about 35 dollars at a restaurant supply store, and they are solid glasses that can actually handle a lot of abuse.

As for cleaning Glencairns, I just use regular Dawn soap and hot water. I know there are special wine glass cleaners (sold on the premise that lingering soap residue would break down the flavorful oils, and/or the lingering scents would mess with your ability to get the nose you want), but mostly that seems like parting money from people who have too much of it for their own good. Just rinse your glasses thoroughly and put them upside down on a drying rack and you're good to go.

Hello Rex and Daniel from the uk.
I have always been into whisky's and I have recently been experimenting with some different bottles than what you find in your supermarket on the middle shelf. I am still learning about picking up flavours and the smaller notes and I can say your videos have been an amazing help.
However I do have a few questions that I would like for you to answer.
    1. When you produce your bottles I would like to obtain one but I see that you dont post let alone to the uk, is this somthing that you will be looking into.
    2. I have been looking into a trip to Austin for a wile and to find out that you are also based there its somthing that has now peaked my interest. Can you recommend anything to do alongside joining the tribe for a taste or 2.
    3. I wouldn't mind helping you guys out on patron but once again the perks of it are limited due to geographical locations.
    4. When will you be looking to do a tour of the uk distillers, I have seen that you have done Ireland but what about england and Wales as they also have plenty of distilleries to view.
