Your expression says it all! Just like mine for the 189th time since she won the Portuguese context! That's impossible to fight the feeling inspired by such a big heart touching song. Thanks for you comment!
Love your smile in this reaction. Saudade is a portuguese word with no translation in other linguages. Its a portuguese word to a melancholic miss and similar to a nostalgic happyness when remember a place, person or something we miss. Its not sadness. It remember us a happy thing or moment with somewone or something, some place or situation we miss and we were happy. Love from Portugal ❤❤❤
Oooh! Thank you so much for explaining this! :)) When I replay this song in my head now, it does sound melancholic and makes me feel as if I was lingering in some bittersweet memories. Now it all makes sense! :))
@@msfoxie Maro made this song because her grand father passed away with covid 19. The song is a tribut to him and she is gratefull, remembering their good moments together. She says "... perdi o meu melhor amigo e se não for demais, peço por sinais ou uma só palavra ", it means "I lost my best friend and if it's not too much, I just ask for a sign or a single word ". A beatifull and sweet song with strong meaning and sentiment. Love from Oporto Portugal.
@@joaolima3059 Oh dear... :( My condolences to Maro. Thank you so much, you've been a great, great help for understanding this song better! I really appreciate you! Thank you, and love from Latvia!
When Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision, he said "music is not about fireworks, music is about feelings". The word "saudade" cannot be translated, it means the feeling of loosing, something, someone. You feel "saudade" when you don't see your beloved ones. Even though most people don't know this word and meaning, when you heard it, you feel happines, sadness, whith chills, vibes, nostalgy. It's a word that travels your feelings. Absolutly astonishing song. I don't care if we will win or not, this music makes me feel............. Proud to be Portuguese. "...music is not about fireworks, music is about feelings..." Salvador Sobral.
(…and since we mentioned Saudade…) Saudade is not a sad word. Saudade is the embrace of the past to the pain of the present. Saudade is Reunion. Saudade is the proof that happiness exists. Saudade is Promisse. Saudade is the escape that saves you from yourself. Saudade is Cuddleness. Saudade is the kiss that wakes you up and gives you back to yourself. Saudade is Gratitude. Saudade is a tear that tastes like sugar. Saudade is Flavor. Saudade is a flame that burns without ignating. Saudade is Light. Saudade is a space that fits your soul. Saudade is Home. Saudade is the companion that follows you closely. Saudade is Way. Saudade is the map of your ever wandering life. Saudade is Island. Saudade is doubt without the shadow of fear. Saudade is Truth. Saudade is rain melting sunshine. Saudade is Rainbow. Saudade is a breeze that shakes your absences. Saudade is Memory. Saudade is the every-day-bread you knead. Saudade is Food. Saudade is belonging we never leave behind . Saudade is Heart. Saudade is the sea that always goes and returns. Saudade is Hope. Saudade is the faith that we do not depart. Saudade is Prayer. Saudade is the excuse that soul gives to time. Saudade is Eternity. Saudade is the matter from which redemption is made. Saudade is Love. TeresaTeixeira
Saudade hasn't any kind of translation to other languages. It is a specific word/meaning from Portugal and the Portuguese/Portuguese speakers. It relates to the time of Discoveries when the sailors sailed from Portugal, leaving their families behind, and the feeling the mothers, sons, and wives had was more than a miss you. It was "Saudade," a strong emotion, coming from our most profound feelings when we lose someone when we don't see someone for a long, long time, more substantial than an "I miss so much"! "SAUDADE" - Everyone has, but only the Portuguese has a specific word for it. It is one of the Portuguese words that there isn't any kind of translation to other languages. SAUDADE is... SAUDADE!
I would say "saudade" is sort of a bittersweet emotion, it is deeper than just "missing" something... And it is better applied when you mean something or someone that is never coming back, it is an eternal feeling with no solution... It can be pretty painful to feel "saudades" of something or someone... So it is a bit hard to translate this word.
"Saudade" is a word that ONLY exists in Portuguese and Brasilian. Its a lil hard to translate, but its like "missing" someone. She created this song because of her grandfather, that died.
I'm sorry, if it seemed that way. I wasn't comparing you as nation or country, I was trying to figure out how to pronounce "saudade" correctly, as to me Portugese and Spanish languages sound similar in a few ways (keeping in mind that I don't know either of the languages and have only heard them a few times each). I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, that wasn't my goal. :(
@@msfoxie You pronounced Maro correctly. :) With regards to the song: It's dedicated to her grandfather who passed away. It was a central figure in her life. Saudade is a noun, which expresses nostalgia. No hard feelings on my side! Portuguese people have a strong sense of identity. Although we get along with Spain very well, we never allow our Identity and Culture to be mistaken or easily compared with our only neighbor. Keep up with your videos and your good work!
