- Lewis first became addicted to gambling as a teenager after a significant win. This early success ignited a passion that quickly spiralled out of control, leading to persistent problems that followed him into adulthood. We had the opportunity to interview Lewis at two pivotal moments: before he began his recovery journey and now - 18 months in. During these conversations, he shared his experiences and challenges, including a difficult relapse that tested his resolve.
Reflecting on his life before and after recovery, Lewis provided a raw and honest perspective on the transformation he underwent. When we revisited the same set of interview questions one year later, watching the footage of himself from both interviews, Lewis' change in perspective was profound.

Gambling companies in the UK are grossly under regulated. The fact that they limit/restrict your account when you're winning & incentive you when you're losing is appaling.
Not really it's to regulated I have been gambling 10 years and since the ukgc introduced no auto spins no bonus buys it ruined the gambling industry in the UK and now its even harder to get a win so you are spending way more because getting a withdrawal is hard slots have gone from 96-98% rtp to around 92-95% rtp doesn't seem much but it is and people now gamble on crypto which is not regulated by the UK and they are the ones not getting the money never once have i not been paid from a online casino regulated in the UK
Uk gambling sites are trash only good ones are offshore US ones.

As an Alcoholic in recovery i feel you. Booze, Gambling is constantly shoved down our throats as Glamour or Being Cool. They banned cigarette advertising they need to do the same with alcohol and gambling. If you are "Adult" enough you dont need an advert to help you place a bet or a drink you want.
That’s a fair point but those who do gamble responsibly should be able to choose a provider for themselves, that’s how advertising has always worked. I hope your recovery is going well 🙏

It’s one reason why I cancelled my Sky subscription. Every advert on downloaded content was for SkyBet and even as somebody without addiction issues, it felt SO predatory.
I worked for a bank at one point and it was so heartbreaking to see people unable to buy food, but their bank statement was ‘bet, bet, bet’
I sincerely hope he can stay clean and any other problem gambler reading this.

What a powerful documentary! It would be fascinating to explore a similar concept, but from the perspective of transitioning from able-bodied to disabled. That would be alongside things such as work and friends etc.

Gambling is maybe the worst addiction... You can just hit after hit after hit... If you had crack coke heroin or any of the others, youd struggle to spend 1000 a day... But gambling you can lose that in 10mins or less lol

If I can offer any advice to anyone here I'm not an expert, remove the ability to gamble as much as possible: Block gambling via Internet service provider, block transactions via card, etcetera.
Don't think Internet providers can do that as it can be bypassed with a vpn and I have a gambling problem I can block transactions from my bank but it doesn't block bank transfers only debit payments are blocked so if casinos use bank transfers you are screwed only thing you can do to stop is Gamstop but then that doesn't stop people using crypto sites only stops uk casinos so I don't think there is actually anyway for someone to stop gambling unless it's will power

It's telling that most TV ads these days are very diverse, however gambling ads are almost completely based around whyite men. The industry is quite happy to target them.

The increments don’t match our income,yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish i could accomplish that.

A coworker " Retired" at 51 thinking he was set for life with our company Profit Sharing Plan, His GF now Wife also quit working, Well, 3 years later all $500,000 + was gone due to gambling, Vegas, Atlantic City, Bingo, all gone 😵💫 now they live in a trailer park in Delaware and both back at factory jobs with failing health, very sad.

Lucky guy to have supportive parents and this is gunna sound like a orick but he didn't get to rock bottom people say everyone's rock bottom is different but the vast majority peoples version of rock bottom is not thinking "I'm going to kill myself" or even "I'm going to kill myself will pills or imgunna hang myself" true rock bottom for the majority of people and i know because I've been there myself thankfully a long time ago im almost 50 now im talking about 25 years ago and this is from soeaking to many professionals in the field.
Most peoples true rock bottom is to have meticulously planned out how you are going to kill yourself and have all the items tequired at hand for example im going to take 100 paracetomol and you have all 100 patacetomol popped out of the blisters ready to take. Or you have a rope with it set in the correct way whete you will die if you put it round your kneck and step off a chair, im not going into details here fir obvious reasons. Then every single day of your life the first thought you have in a morning is to do that thing and the last thought you have at night is that thought snd throughout the day that thought is constantly in your head below the other thought's you are having bit it never goes away.
Also you never ever menti9n it to snybody else if you are talking about it you ate still ok yes its horrible but yournot at the end of the slope.
My reason for making this point is not to be negative is for anyone out there who are feeling suicidal with "most" people there are many levels to that feeling before you atually go through with it most suicidal thoughts are just depression i say just like it's nothing i know it's horrific but you have to learn to deal with your own thoughts thats why it's so prevalent with young people as they haven't developed coping mechanisms next.
