I am amused at how you reassure us at the beginning that this is "one of the easiest boards to get through" and then everything that follows belies that as we find out how insanely hard it is (even for experts).
It's still arguably the easiest board in DK since it's the board with the least amount of RNG, but that doesn't mean it's easy. :) The board requires pretty tight timing, so a good amount of practice is needed. I wanted to show some steps to increase the chances of success.
What I started doing was basically going after I saw two short springs back to back. I got up to 143,100 increasing my high score from 105,300. So give that a shot if your having trouble.
Thank you so much for this video. I just put up my first 100k score on Kong and I owe it all to you. Its been a frustrating couple of weeks and even after watching Hank, Wes, Robbie, and Weibee videos I could not solve this stage. I came across your video this morning and broke 100k this afternoon! If you're ever in British Columbia hit me up because I definitely owe you a beer!
Finally made it past the L4 spring board for the first time. It was also my first 100k+ game. A few games later I made it through again. I am hoping this will become easier and easier as time goes by. :)
Awesome video bro!! Crazy thing I was just chatting with Steve Wiebe yesterday and he shared knowing when to retreat if you get a second long spring. My friend Retro Arcade Music Man just shared this video with me. My best game so far is 300K going for 500k next!! Subbed and rang the bell!! Always great to meet another DK player!!
I just rewatched this as I was struggling after the short spring to the first safe spot. I wasn't cheating up to the ladder like I was doing from the short spring to the middle, I was just standing on it with my heel. This makes more sense now, thanks to this video and UA-cam 0.50 ;)
The best part about this video is the rage at the end LOL! Great tips, it really helps. I just find that stage frustrating as hell especially when I'm tired.
This is the best explanation video, you are the man! ,.. all the other guys here in youtube trying yo explain this spring strategy are terrible and with bad camera work!
Calling this one of the easiest is hard to understand. For me, it is still the hardest. Rather than wait for the long spring, I have been running when the spring is slightly less than a long spring, and this seems to work for me. I wonder if this works for anyone else? The video refers to standing over the third "upside-down V". He actually has to stand over the second "V". If I stand there long enough I get hit. If you are one pixel off, you get hit. So instead, when I first reach the platform, I gently tap the joystick left three times. Pausing next to the ladder seems too difficult. You have maybe just a second to make the decision whether to run up the ladder. I have not yet mastered when to abort. It is hard to watch the next spring while you are watching Jumpman trying to move him up the ladder. Whether moving left or right you can start moving when the spring hits the ground to the left of you. This helps, but I have yet to master aborting. Although the long spring might be ideal, it seems to work when the spring lands a little bit to the left of the long spring.
It's "easy" in the sense that it's the most predictable board compared to the other boards where the randomness of the barrels and fireballs forces the player to improvise more when avoiding them. Running when the spring is fully long or slightly less than fully long will work, yes! The 16 frames of difference where the spring will land still takes some practice to gain the confidence when to go up and when not to. I should have precised that Jumpman can't go over the peak of the upside-down V in the girder with his foot, like it's shown in the video. Standing in the middle of the upside-down V will have springs hit Jumpman. It IS hard to make that decision when to go up the ladder! That's why you see me hesitating to go up when I'm not sure if the second spring is long enough or not. :) This is a guide on what to look for when the second spring appears, but it still takes practice to get this down.
@@pinkjI saw a video where Billy Mitchel did the impossible. He ran from the right and appeared to go up the ladder either immediately, or just after passing the ladder. How he did this, I don't know.
@@john2001plus it's not impossible! :) it can be done on L04 springs by still watching the spring's bounce near Kong's foot. If it's a short spring, you can move to the left to be closer to the ladder without getting hit. if the next spring is also short, there's enough time to go up the ladder without getting hit. it's not the usual way of doing it, but top tier players can read the springs well enough to safely go up from the right of the ladder instead of the left.
Wow! Great video! I fkn hate DK but the vid is awesome. And Allen,....if you weren't busy flexing the ol' triceps for the womens 3:17 you probably would have kept your focus and survived.
Helpful video, but do you think maybe you could put a content warning in for that rage/self-harm at the end? It really wasn't pleasant to get shocked by that.
Took me from 70-80k to 297k as my high game. Thanks a bunch man!
Awesome!

This is the best demo I’ve seen for this screen, I’d really like to eliminate luck from this level and I think I’ve got it now… thanks much!
best spring vid on the net

@@eltonjohnson or weed, lots and lots and lots of weed
@@eltonjohnson He´s definately no Steve Wiebe,.. poor machine! XD
He's actually pretty chill in real life it's crazy.
Thanks for the tip(s). This particular spring stage is where I get stuck... I'll definitely give it another shot! Thanks for the motivation...
now I will try this game again. thank you so much.
This is terrific information. I'm about to go try it out right now on my Donkey Kong.
Allen seemed madbro. Cabinet boxing and a little skull cracking

Thanks so much for this. I was reading what to do on DK forum but this is much easier for me. I made it through the first time after watching this.
This is helpful. I came here after I was having my best game yet, and then got to lvl 4 springs and all lost all my lives lol
Same thing happened to me... Hopefully we're better armed to pass this stage after watching this video.... And a bit of practice of course.
@@arcadesunday4592 I'm doing much better now with the springs!
@@trimbandit9636 glad to hear it! I've started practicing, using this technique. Still tough, but at least I understand it better now!
Great vid. No wonder this screen is so hard. I must’ve got lucky when I got my high score 152k
