OMG I never realized that Kong's position is a visual indicator for the pie directions. I've been getting killed by those direction changes for like two years. Glad I gave this video another watch!

These strategies are even more evidence that these games were all about the score, not clearing the game and reaching the ending
it's only become about the score for these world class players as point pressing is the only way to get to maximum points before the kill screen where the game malfunctions. For most players it is simply about survival and progression. But not the DK Elite.

i wonder if they're gonna have a donkey kong machine at Pax East 2015? i'd love to play! i mean not get a record or anything but i'd love to meet hank & see how good i can be at the game.
I just started playing sine I was in 3rd grade. I've been playing on mame for a week and can get close to 150k now. I use a keyboard. I use wasd for direction and the numeric pad enter for jump. So the spacing and orientation stays the same. My friend has a house full of arcade games and I play a lot there too when we hang out.

Why are the levels in the wrong order on US Donkey Kong?
Very cool.. Can you describe how you were "steering" the barrels? I never knew that was possible..
The barrels are programmed to kill you so if you move the joystick towards the ladders they tend to go down that ladder if you time it correctly. You can also steer them while you're on a ladder or while jumping in the air if you move the joystick towards the ladder(s) you wanna steer barrels down. This applies to all barrels to all the girders above you, so you have to really plan out your route on getting to the top. There are "Safe spots" where you can hang out and steer barrels away as well. Hanks video shows a safer approach on the game if you just want to get a kill screen.

On the level with the rivets, I tried jumping next to Kong and didn't get any 100 points.
You have to jump and immediately after press the stick away from Kong. Still a vertical jump, but that gives you the points.

I wonder if there’s an actual limit to points scored. What if it went on forever. And why aren’t there interviews with the programmers of the game to ask about all the possibilities.
It’s gotta end with the kill screen. Unless there’s some sort of level backtracking looping glitch.

@@TheJohnCooper Time limit on each stage combined with the eventual kill screen makes the score cap at something. But when you add quite high random elements to this aswell, this optimal run could not be achieved.

No, there is a theoretical limit, it cannot be unlimited. What he’s saying is, it’s almost impossible to determine what that limit is, because there is so much randomness to the game, so determining the highest theoretically possible score is essentially impossible.
