People have the misconception that Dime scooped his mids. His tone has tons of low mids mixed with tons of gain

True but Dime was also not the greatest at explaining the specifics of precisely how he set up his tone or guitars, a lot of the fine details came via his tech Grady. Dime once stated he would turn the middle control off 'but the mids were still in there' - generally understood at the time to mean even if you turn the middle control of the tone stack of his Randall or whatever amp to zero they're still present in the sound. He is omitted elaborating that via equing he added specific low mids as you have said. This mixed with very high gain and harmonics deceives the way you typically think of or are used to hearing the treble mid and bass tonestack response, so it sounds super scooped.

Very true! Yes super scooped mids sounds killer when it’s just you by yourself in a room. However in a mix or live setting, nope! You will never be heard. Listening to isolated tracks you can totally tell, there’s mids in there and they are not that scooped.

Yea man, Dime wasn’t big on giving out his settings. Even in the clinic video someone asks him about his settings and he kinda just like smacks his lips and just doesn’t answer it lol that was his man. He didn’t want someone else having that tone lol now Grady has come out in the later years and gives little pointers and tidbits here and there.

Thank you my man! I appreciate that!
Yes very true!! I never understood the need for mids until I joined the band im in. I used to scoop them way too much before then and yea it sounds great solo, however in a mix not so much lol

Interesting that the Aphex 104 would into the front of the amp. I feel like that's not really going to do anything to the sound unless it was in the fx loop. Great Vid!

I thought the same thing! It used to be in the fx loop before Grady told me that and it did make a difference. Through the front, not so much. It adds just the slightest sizzle up front. Not a lot just a hint of sizz. Thank you my man! I wasn’t a dick in the video?

Hey. It would've been great if you offered short sound samples of quad tracking vs 3 tracking with some drums and bass. I've only done 3 tracking once and it sounded great until I was trying to mix the whole album. There were problems with the vocals and guitars competing for space so I never did it again, but maybe I should try it again. One thing that I would assume worked great with 3 tracks of guitars [one in the center], would've been the mono compatibility issues. My mixes have no guitars when listening in mono. I kind of don't care about mono, but if my mix worked better in mono, I wouldn't mind :D

I most certainly can do that! Would you like to hear that with the Dime rig or me just come up with a piece and do it with original tone and mix?

@@dustylnstudios3938 Hey. Thanks for the answer. Whatever you please and is more suiting to you. It would be just cool to hear quad vs three guitar tracks comparison. Switch a couple of times. Perhpas just guitars [couple of switches A to B] and then maybe in the mix with drums and possibly bass. I mean if you feel like it. It takes time and effort, but I'll be happy to listen to it :) It's been a long time since I last recorded 3 rhythm tracks with one in the center and perhaps I should try it again sometimes :)

I was so thrilled to see you made another dime video. As someone who is deep into the dime tone chasing world, owning all that same vintage gear myself, you sure have nailed the tone better than anyone else out there. Thats why your videos get attention!

Thank you very much my man for saying that! It was time for a new updated video than my older ones. My older ones kinda suck compared to this one! More to come! Now that I’m able to program drums and have all the stuff needed! There’s more to come! Thank you for watching the video!! Much appreciated
