  • In this episode, we continue heading up north towards Cape York, and the rain keeps pouring down! Luckily, we stumbled across Innot Hot Springs, which was entirely unintentional but exactly what we needed after the recent cold weather. What made it even better was that we pretty much had the place to ourselves! From there, we had a quick overnight stay at Rocky Creek War Memorial Park, a fantastic little free camp and a great opportunity for some Australian history homeschooling. From there, we hit the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) and drove north until the rain stopped! This took us past Palmer River Roadhouse to Fairview Station, where we ended up spending a week chilling out with the cows!

Ok, I just realised I had accidently turned comments off when uploading this video!

With any luck the weather did 'break' once you crossed the ranges on the PDR. It's one thing to have a dry and cosy space to escape the rain, quite another when you have to spend most of your time doing so. Definitely one of those 'that wasn't in the brochure!' times on the trip to 'warmer' places. It still looks very pretty though, despite the rain, and it's great to see someone doing this as a touring journey. That was impressive shopping tetrising, especially carrying a fast-growing little one! 😳 Hopefully all is going as expected and everyone is as happy and well as possible while you are on the road. I'm sure the early nappy trauma will pass as quickly as it comes on 🙂
Rocky Creek will be on our list I think. When I was still studying we had a training sergeant who had served in the Cavalry in Vietnam, but never spoke about his experiences. One Saturday afternoon three of us had our heads down in books in our common room and he came and sat with us. For reasons we never discovered he opened up to us just that once and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I can't visit a memorial without thinking of him and the friends he lost, or that afternoon, despite the passage of more than 40 years. Thank-you for taking the time out to remember, and to share that moment with us all 🙏🏻

@contributor7219 we have my great uncles transcripts from when he fought in the trenches at the battle of the Somme. He was very young, and the words he wrote were so raw and real, impossible to comprehend for someone to experience that so young. We make sure the boys know and understand the sacrifice so many made for our freedom.
Tania is doing well, big as a house now! Not sure if we remember the nappie change routine, but we'll learn again, I have no doubt! 😀👍

@@VetinaVan Records like that, especially those which give us insight into what it was like to be so young and face such terrible ordeals, are priceless reminders of the very human (and indeed animal) cost that is paid in all wars. May we never forget, and if only we could relegate such conflicts purely to historical footnotes. It's great to hear all are doing well. Safe travels.
