- In this episode, we stumble across a wonderful little free camp nestled in the heart of Northern Queensland, where we base ourselves for some exploring around the region. Unfortunately, the Queensland weather had other ideas! However, we still managed to catch some fish, go prospecting for sapphires, and enjoy slowing down after a crazy last few months. From there, we headed to the Undara Lava Tubes.
The Undara Lava Tubes started their formation almost 200,000 years ago when volcanic activity in the region was much more common. As lava flowed from the Undara Volcano, it moved rapidly through the surrounding landscape, creating vast lava channels. As the top outer layer of the lava flow cooled, it solidified while the molten core continued to flow through the insulated interior. Once the eruption subsided and the lava drained away, it left behind a series of hollow tubes. The Undara tubes are some of the longest and best-preserved in the world, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's violent volcanic past.
Such a great place to tick off the list and offered some fantastic home schooling opportunities at the same time!
Enjoy. 😊
Thanks for the interesting stops and info . Very interesting episode .
@fleurneumann8430 thanks! 😀😀
Great video guys. Queensland, perfect one day and better the next!!!
@jasonbarnes5605 indeed! It has been unseasonably wet! Especially around the Table Lands.🌧🌧👍👍
Good video today ok 👌 thank you 🙏
Thanks! Still can't catch a break from the rain though! 👍👍😉🍻
Thanks buddy, safe travels.
@zoezoe610 thanks, you too! 😀😀
How good is the rain. Makes everything nice and green but not ideal when we have been trying to show some WA friends our beautiful tropical part of the world.
We’ve never had any luck with Sapphires either but loved the lava tubes. A place above Mount Surprise called Obriens creek is great to swim in when the creek is flowing and we did find some sapphire stones there.
Safe travels.
@hapninemptynesters the Queensland outback was looking more like New Zealand dairy country when we came through, everything was so green! Out gem fossiking thus far for our entire trip has fallen short of our expectations, but there is always more time to turn that around! Safe travels. 👍👍🍻😀

Gee, nice to see the weather cooperating and making the 'outdoors lifestyle' such a joy! Queensland is really bunging on the welcome there 🙄 The lava tubes look amazing though and being able to see the path of the lava flows by the colour of the foliage is something that never even occurred to me until you mentioned it. We might have to venture to that part of the world if we ever decide to do The Cape as wifey loves her fossicking too. Was that a Bettong early in the video? It was very cute whatever it was.
Hope all is going well with the new family addition and with the truck (bus) build as well. Looking forward to the next episode as always.
@contributor7219 it could have been a bettong, we did not get a long look at it. If all goes well, we should get the bus in October, hopefully sooner as once the baby comes, we don't have transport until the bus is finished!! Tania is doing well, very pregnant now! 👍😀
What was the green glow? Was it in the water?
@@Frizzneck it was a fire fly, little bug with a flashing green tail. Fascinating little thing! 🍻👍
How does your rotisserie work?
@@Frizzneck just 2 D batteries and it lasts for probably half a dozen cookups. Its an Auspit, does the job. We use it at least once a week when fires are allowed. 👍👍🍻
How could you guys not eat all that ? There was barely anything there......I hope they were cheap.
@alexmcdowall8680 ate it all and washed it down with a few cold ones, the food there was surprisingly good! 🍻🍻
All good then 👍
