I was a manager for M&S for several years and their tinned curries were the best product in the store imho I’d have a tin and a microwave rice 3-4 times a week.

Having tried both, I agree that the M&S is the better quality. Both cans say they contain two servings, but I don't know anyone who shares a can. For me it's a can per person.

Honest review. Price v flavour as someone said. For a cheap Chinese curry get the Goldfish brand curry paste. It’s a dehydrated curry but it’s fantastic. One tub goes a long way. Use a few chicken thighs roughly chopped, a white onion chunky chop and fry. Then add chicken stock with frozen peas. Give it a few minutes then add a few tablespoons of the curry paste. It will thicken as it boils. The tub of product does a lot of portions.
Hey amazing vid....love a tinned curry or chilli makes my Friday night.....with accompaniments....these things are brilliant....keep up your excellent work
I think, M & S are the best supermarket in the country, followed by Sainsbury`s. But overall for value Sainsbury`s is the greatest. M & S chicken including canned foods is British. Aldi import chicken from south America
@@tinplategeektoo Yes you are right. That never used to be the case and it was always British chicken in all M and S products. I guess demand is high now.

£3 for curry in a can from m&s or £3.59 for the Aldi specially selected chilled proper curry. I'm not a fan of the cheaper tinned curry because the chicken is always over cooked and dry, but at least the price reflects that and theres a purpose to the product. But £3 for a tinned curry. Nah.

Spot on again Gaz ,only just spotted this Like the way you mention the flavour of the curry ,to me that’s the most important, no one can get near this one from M&S for me been using it for years 😊
Hi Gareth that was a brilliant review as I've always wondered what a tin of curry is like and you've just answered it and I'll go to M&S and try there curry and straight off the bat you could see the difference 🍻🙏
I see you really tucked into that M&S one. I have always found that anything that says it's never is so I add a good squirt , or two, of Sriracha sauce ,Flying Goose Brand , and that livens things up. Never tried tinned curry as I make m own and use chicken thighs as someone else commented as they are far superior to breast.
But is the M&S worth the extra £1.65? I'd be tempted to try the Aldi. I couldn't find a comparable product on the Morrisons or Asda websites, but Tesco have the Stockwells brand of Chicken Curry (without the word Hot in the title) for £1.26, weight 392g.
I had the bramwells hot chicken curry the other night with a cheap microwave pilau rice. Purely an exercise to see if really cheap is do able. It is if your in a hurry and just need some food, otherwise I would go for something better.
The last time I ate a tin of that curry I couldn't stop farting for two days I was literally hated by my household and I do believe it was a Morrisons one.
The chicken in the budget cans is what gets stripped from the carcass after the valuable cuts are removed. So once the breast & thighs are off. If your lucky it includes drumsticks if not its all undercarrage & rear. It often gets reformed into chunks from a paste, its why it goes powdery in the mouth. The fact M&S use breast covers the price difference alone. You get what you pay for.
Hi Gareth. There's another product you can slip into Santa's sack for me. We don't have canned chicken curry as such. Just the pouch in the noodle box variety with rice that's not very appetising. Many years ago we had a pretty lame curry chicken and veg soup. No heat, no flavour! If it were my choice, I'd spend the extra and buy the M&S. Another fine comparison review today Gareth. Cheers 👍🤤😀
Great review Gaz, you nailed it, if I want a curry it's a treat even out of a can. If I get a watery bland tomato with a hint of spice low grade effort I'd just rather not, I'd rather just have beans on toast or something. Thanks brother 👊
I would expect the M&S to be better especially as it costs well over twice as much as the Aldi BUT Aldi served over chips is surely going to be ok isn't it? Anyway, re: the chicken. The dark meat is way tastier and juicier than the breast meat. A very fair review as ever but if I was going to spend £3 on it I could make it, twice as much as in a tin plus rice and naan, for the same money or less, especially if you buy a whole chicken and joint it as I do, cutting costs further. 👍
I’m guessing it must be formed chicken in the Aldi one. But I would never buy curry in a can. If I’m being lazy I will use the wet and dry curry sauces from Aldi or Lidl (those with dry spices in the lid) and add my own British chicken. And that’s tonight’s dinner decided.
there's got to be something seriously wrong with you if you're gonna pay 3 quid for a tin of tasteless, dry and weak curry. you can get a jar and 1KG of thighs for less (at Aldi).
Another student story from Aldi... 4/5 years ago that chicken curry was 79P and their tinned meatballs were 30p (shocking!). If you wanted something quick before youw ent out drinking this was it.... bit watery though.
*Oh wow Bald Foodie Guy,this was an eye opener compariso* *Again, recommend watching this one* 👌🔥🔥🔥🙌 I’ve never had much luck with enjoying these curries,or ready meals .but I’ve not tried the marks one . Actually the only curry related convenience food I do like thus far is peters chicken tikka slice as it’s mild and sweet. Hope you are doing well, best regards. G
I give up on tinned curry heat ratings....3 chilli hot means absolutely nothing. I think if coconut is in the ingredients you are lucky if you get a medium because it's usually quite mild.
Yes, I tried that Bramwell's curry a few weeks ago, it was HORRIBLE - like you said, there's a strange taste to it, but I did eat it. Not tried M&S, can't afford it! But the Asda and the Morrison chicken curries were quite nice. I've got an Asda chicken balti and a vindaloo in the cupboard.... Not sure what they're like yet, but the vindaloo I'm hoping will be nice and hot.
Hi gaz i tried the iceland new king prawn tikka massala . I think it might have had a dodgy prawn in it , as i only had one mouthful and it was gross! I binned it . I d lost the receipt, and gave up trying too call them after twenty minutes!🤬. I think one of the best curries is the m & s meal deal , but thats now gone up from s tenner too twelve pounds!!!. You do eat with your eyes they say but since I burnt my eyes eating soup I just stick to eating with my mouth now. M&S just can't be beaten sorry, have you tasted their Eccles cakes from the bakery ? 😋 absolutely amazing!!!
I find the differences between British English and American English fascinating. I wonder about British people saying "hob" and Americans saying "Stove or stove top".
A good video. Thank you. I have never, ever bought a tinned curry. Even before my intolerance to farmed meats. My father did all the cooking, when I grew up and everything was made from fresh basic ingredients. All the meals, were top restaurant quality and I know he was a penny pincher. We often had a curry on a Monday. Whatever the meat was, on the Sunday would often get curried, turned into fricassée, or simply braised in left over gravy. Many of his curries contained sliced fruit, whole walnuts, sultanas and tasted wonderful. He died in 1981, but I still remember the flavours. Sharwoods used to make a good general madras curry powder. If they still do, I could replicate the curries of my youth :) You quite often mention ‘pimping up’. How about a pimping up channel?
Went to the Ulverston M&S today to get a tin of the curry as it looks good in the vid, just wanted you to know it’s £3.75 a can. I will taste it over the next few days
You made me jump out of my skin Gareth with your sound issues 🤣🤣. I have had a couple of different tinned curry's from Asda & Sainsbury's but found the M&S ones are just that bit better, certainly on the size of chicken pieces.
Hi Gareth, how about comparing M&S with Waitrose stuff & then Aldi v Lidl & finally Tesco v Sainsburys / Morrisons?!? I noticed in Asda the other day that if you spend £20.00 on Heinz branded tinned products that you can get twenty (20) tins. For the same money, with Morrisons offers, you only get fifteen (15) tins. That’s 25% saving on only twenty items. Which if people are looking to save money on food, is a big difference… Hope you are well & your family good… 👍😃..
My missus is Indian (born in Hertfordshire, speaks very posh, don't know what she's doing with a scrote like me), so the best curries I've ever had have been at home, and the last time I had a tinned curry it tasted f***ing weird but I might give that M&S one a go when she's on nights so she won't know. You are my new favourite UA-camr. Hope you're getting over the manflu!
M & S Chicken Curry Looks like a nice very Friday or Saturday TV Dinner , I would have it with mango and black pepper poppadoms , So around £5.50 you have a lovely meal . Honest plan speaking , Its saves you time and money ,Well done Gareth .

Rather pay more for a better product.
Great review look forward to your next Vlog.
Cheers Paul
The last time I ate a tin of that curry I couldn't stop farting for two days I was literally hated by my household and I do believe it was a Morrisons one.
Haha yes they have that affect
@@BaldFoodieGuy needless to say it wasn't added to our shopping list thereafter. ...their actually not bad with some homemade chips or some rice.
@@fatty3383 chips OR rice….? You mean chips and rice, 😂👍
Too much information!
I have a tin of Bramwells chicken curry in the cupboard, looks like its going to stay there along with the tin of westles burgers in gravy.
Cheers Sean yes it's good at M&S
I shaw the one with the Christmas dinner are they available now m/s
Cheers 👍🤤😀
Cheers John 👍👍
The M&S tinned curry’s are the nuts.... try the beef madras,it’s spot on!!
Cheers Danny
I really like the Aldi one I always buy the hot version however I'm not surprised the M&S version won.
Great review Gaz, you nailed it, if I want a curry it's a treat even out of a can. If I get a watery bland tomato with a hint of spice low grade effort I'd just rather not, I'd rather just have beans on toast or something. Thanks brother 👊
Thank you
I would expect the M&S to be better especially as it costs well over twice as much as the Aldi BUT Aldi served over chips is surely going to be ok isn't it? Anyway, re: the chicken. The dark meat is way tastier and juicier than the breast meat. A very fair review as ever but if I was going to spend £3 on it I could make it, twice as much as in a tin plus rice and naan, for the same money or less, especially if you buy a whole chicken and joint it as I do, cutting costs further. 👍
Cheers pal
Is overstone in northampton?
Have u done the Chicken Korma pot noddle yet u will love it
Not yet!
Iv been watching since you started and I love the kids art work on the fridge wanted to buy a piece a while back remember Gareth
Thank you, I do remember a few people said they like it. Thank you.
*Oh wow Bald Foodie Guy,this was an eye opener compariso*
*Again,recommend watching this one* 👌🔥🔥🔥🙌
I’ve never had much luck with enjoying these curries,or ready meals .but I’ve not tried the marks one .
Actually the only curry related convenience food I do like thus far is peters chicken tikka slice as it’s mild and sweet. Hope you are doing well, best regards. G
Cheers Glenda, all good thank you. Hope your well 👍👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy good good,glad to hear. I’m ok sir,thanks 👍
I give up on tinned curry heat ratings....3 chilli hot means absolutely nothing.
I think if coconut is in the ingredients you are lucky if you get a medium because it's usually quite mild.
Gareth - I've put the M&S on my shopping list buddy so that I'll be spot on. By the way, what was the heat like, chilli wise as you didn't say? 👍👍
Yes very mild these are.
Love the Aldi one! Wouldn't even contemplate paying for the M+S! Booths is a fantastic supermarket [if your rich]
All best . Steve👍.
Oh dear I've not had it Steve, should like one to try lol
You do eat with your eyes they say but since I burnt my eyes eating soup I just stick to eating with my mouth now. M&S just can't be beaten sorry, have you tasted their Eccles cakes from the bakery ? 😋 absolutely amazing!!!
😂👍
@@loriAlessiroberts118 think I've tried everything 😂😂
Or M&S Portuguese tarts! Yum.
I find the differences between British English and American English fascinating. I wonder about British people saying "hob" and Americans saying "Stove or stove top".
I just say "cooker"
If they still do, I could replicate the curries of my youth :)
You quite often mention ‘pimping up’. How about a pimping up channel?
Thank you
Went to the Ulverston M&S today to get a tin of the curry as it looks good in the vid, just wanted you to know it’s £3.75 a can. I will taste it over the next few days
Wow gone up
I take it the wife does the cooking. 😆
You made me jump out of my skin Gareth with your sound issues 🤣🤣. I have had a couple of different tinned curry's from Asda & Sainsbury's but found the M&S ones are just that bit better, certainly on the size of chicken pieces.
Sorry pal
Hi Gareth, how about comparing M&S with Waitrose stuff & then Aldi v Lidl & finally Tesco v Sainsburys / Morrisons?!? I noticed in Asda the other day that if you spend £20.00 on Heinz branded tinned products that you can get twenty (20) tins. For the same money, with Morrisons offers, you only get fifteen (15) tins. That’s 25% saving on only twenty items. Which if people are looking to save money on food, is a big difference… Hope you are well & your family good… 👍😃..
Hi Mark, we don't have a Waitrose or Lidl near me unfortunately sorry.
Cheers pal
M & S Chicken Curry Looks like a nice very Friday or Saturday TV Dinner , I would have it with mango and black pepper poppadoms , So around £5.50 you have a lovely meal . Here in Somerset the equivalent from a takeaway would be £15 pounds , Do not for get the ice cold beer ...I have seen most of the videos and have taken Mr Bald Foodie Guys advice on a few food products and he has not been wrong yet . Honest plan speaking , Its saves you time and money ,Well done Gareth .
You're welcome
