I load up with Iceland £1 meals whenever I have a delivery. They are great value compared to the companies that my local council is now using for "Meals on Wheels". Who deliver frozen meals which are often smaller, and would cost me £4.50 to £6.00 each. Adding some bread and butter, or a portion of chips makes them into a decent meal. You can always add more seasoning.

That Sainsburys one really surprised me by how good it looked considering the price, having said that I would have to opt for the Iceland one if I was going to choose between the two for my evening meal purely based on the amount of food that you actually get 👍
Same ere, the Sainsbury one looks proper, healthy even, just needs a bit more veg on the side to balance it out a bit, really, which is amazing for this price.
Both products look great - have tried the Iceland before and not bad - it really is down to whether you prefer the 'brown' chicken gravy or the creamier parsley stuff - slight difference in price and weight - but not too much. Just what we need this weather - good old fashioned comfort food as quickly as possible!
My favourite meal in the Ford canteen in Cologne, Germany was chicken fricassee with rice. Man, that was delicious. Ford ran a huge catering organisation every day to feed around 50,000 workers and all the meals were heavily subsidised. The Sainsbury's chicken hotpot goes some of the way with its creamy sauce instead of gravy.
Those were the days ,I worked in a shoe factory in Earl Shilton in Leicestershire in the 70’s staff canteens for morning break ,lunch and afternoon tea break ,heavily subsidised but top notch ,owners were philanthropists and saw there staff as vital ,happy staff made a good product ,another factory in Northampton I worked in in the late 60’s ,started to supply M&S first thing they made the factory owners do was to improve staff canteens and toilets ,there again happy workforce made better product!
After watching this I remembered I had one of these in the freezer. After just finishing it off I have to say it tasted amazing with some added pepper, and for for 90p
Its definitely the time for a hot pot and they both look really good Gareth. Thanks for the video x just made leek and potato soup and threw in a bit of leftover butternut squash that was lurking in the fridge 😊

Their favourite is the Tesco hearty food sweet n sour chicken. Can’t go wrong for 79p. And they will often ask for that one as a quick dinner too
Tried many chicken hotpots but my favorite is the Sainsburys one due to that gorgeous creamy sauce. I find the gravy ones not as good. But maybe that’s just me. They make a great comfort food and easily bulked up with a few spicy wedges and some veg. Honestly people you need to try that Sainsburys one it’s gorgeous and cracking value.

Iceland do a 10% discount for pensioners on a Tuesday. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you spend £10, you will get £1 off. That would pay for one of these meals. They say you need proof of age, e.g. a bus pass, but the checkout operator at my local one didn’t even ask me - cheeky madam must have thought I looked old!
Yes they are now in Holborn. Stamford St was their HQ and I crossed Blackfriars Bridge and went there for my interview in 1969. My first week was spent in the branch below the offices boning sides of bacon, learning how to cut huge cheeses etc. After I was assigned to their Hatch End branch. The old Good Food Costs Less at Sainsburys" slogan has long gone.
Hi Gareth, just wanted to say that my son (and myself) love your videos. Obviously a video that you did with sausages has stuck in his mind because now you're "weird sausage man". (He's 2 and thinks the word weird is complimentary, so he's being nice 🤣) Keep up the great work 👍 x

Wow ! What a good spot. Generally I find a 400g portion isn’t substantial enough for me, especially during these cold spells. 600g is perfect. But I’m going down to Iceland later so will try it out - if there are any left !
That is extremely good value for money, considering just how expensive everything is now. I would happily eat one of them, with a couple of bits of bread and butter. Top video top man.

I used to have a rat which knew when I was making my dinner and would kick up a fuss if she didn't get any. I was putting some on a tiny plate and realised I was arranging it to look attractive. Like she cared.
I'm always eating the Iceland hotpot. But everytime I go in the shop, I keep thinking I am gonna see a price rise to something like £1.25. Everything else has gone up. Cheers.
Well usually, as you know, I'd say homemade is best BUT the Iceland one looks great for a quid. You can't beat the value. I don't fancy the white sauce one, funnily enough. Best to microwave it for the full time and flash it under the grill for a minute to crisp it up. Another great review.👍
I had Stamford Street macaroni cheese the other day ,normally make my own ,but I tell you what it’s lovely ,creamy ,cheesey and for 90 pence very good value ,not tried the others but they do a curry, a sweet and sour chicken and a shepherds pie so nice little selection ,90 pence can’t complain ,bag of chips £2 plus nowadays,ps saw the other day pre packed scraps ,a better line would be pre packed ,thick white fried bread !
I don't buy Icelands ready meals as they don't support this countries meat and fish industry as much as they should they tend to value meat from Poland over this country so the quality isn't up to our standards
Great channel! I personally enjoy the Bisto minced beef frozen hotpot normally pick it up when it’s on offer at Asda. 10 mins in the microwave and it’s spot on 😉

Also I thing the salt issue is a bit over played from research I have seen so do not worry too much about that although as you said I do not add salt to these meals

I tend to get the Iceland chicken stew dumplings ready meal for £1 as is more filling but when they don’t have the stew dumplings meal I get the hotpot or the chicken roast dinner ready meal £2.50 from Iceland or sainsburys
They both look really delicious, I would prefer the Sainsbury's one, as I like the creamy sauce. Asda do 2 different ones, and I used to buy the cheaper one many years ago, and it was lovely. Looking at them now I think that I would prefer the Asda £3 one and it's on offer at the moment three for £7.50, ideal to stock up your freezer with for the winter. Great review, as always Gareth, and very honest and informative as usual. Keep up the good work 💯👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy thanks Gareth, I look forward to your reviews every lunch time, can't wait to see what you have new for us. As a disabled person that can't get out and around supermarkets, it's great to see what's on offer, and new food ideas, as if it isn't a supermarket that delivers, like Aldi, Lidl, farmfoods etc. Then I have to rely on what other people say they have seen there. So for people like me you have a great channel , thanks so much 👍
A year on from your review of these Chicken Hotpots, the Iceland one has been discontinued, whereas the Sainsbury one (Stamford St Co) has been reduced in price to 85p. I tried it the other week and was really pleased with the result. Today i picked up some more of the Stamford St Co ready meals and noticed that they do a Cottage Pie. Any chance you could do a review of it, as they were sold out? Probably means that it must be OK?
Cooked chicken 10% - chicken breast fillet 96% on the Iceland - The Sainsbury's is just 10% of cooked chicken breast !! .... If you can work this out or explain it, you're a better man than me Gunga Din !! ... I haven't a clue how they get these percentages to be honest. .... I'm sure they baffle you with bullsh*t. ... I enjoyed the review.
My nearest Sainsbury is 6 miles away so for 10p it's not worth it compared to iceland half a mile away. Both look good though cheers Gareth see you on the next one
You were a bit quick waving the boxes around, I like the Sainsburys one but I know the chicken is from Thailand, never had the Iceland one cant find out from their website where the chicken is from it was assembled in Ireland but I suspect it is from Thailand too.
I have had the Stanford Street one before for the money it is excellent value and very tasty which isn't always the case with these value meals. These are better done in the oven if your wealthy enough to be able to turn your oven on or 5 mins in microwave then ten minutes in the air fryer to crisp the potato up a bit
Fabulous 🔥👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I have always preferred a hot pot with the white sauce but I have also had my eye on the iceland one a while.. sainsburys is is not an option for me,of which I’m sad about. You remember the Findus vegetable hot pot? I I was crazy about that
Thanks for this i been lookikng for something similar , especially being lactose intolerant The sainsburys one looks nicer but ill give the iceland one a whirl as that still looks good and cant comaplain for a quid. Great review as always!
Both looked very nice Gareth 👍🏻😁 I thought the Chicken pieces in the Sainsbury meal was better quality chicken than the Iceland meal. Good thing about the Iceland meal, much less sugar (6 grams less) So it's a tough one. 👍🏻😁❄☃
Am glad you found the Stamford Street budget brand, from Salisbury's,been around a while , as lot are similar to the asda budget brand, check out the bottom shelves ,where there normally hideing ,_3 here in Halifax, hope your keeping warm Gareth 😀
Those Iceland 1 quid hotpots are super good value. Maybe a touch on the small side but paired with a couple of Yorkie puds it’d be more substantial. Then again I’m a chubby fella so I’m probably just too greedy lol. 😂
I've had a couple of Stamford street meals and their quite nice for a quick supper. Love hotpot but here in Liverpool you can't beat a bowl of Scouse with red cabbage 😋 my favourite stew.
Sauté potatoes - chips that haven’t been chipped! We call them fritters in Middlesbrough - in Manchester, they’re called scallops - but scallops are seafood!
To me being as a Lancashire lad, chicken does not go with the word hotpot and secondly creamy sauce is not a hotpot, Lamb is and should only be used in a Hotpot, guess the mass supermarkets use chicken as it's cheap and no doubt from Bangkok.
Either meal won't break the piggy bank and a fair amount to stave off the hunger. Just an idea for a future review, instant mashed potato. It would be good to see your take on them, some are good and some ..... ☹
I remember the ASDA chicken hotpot you reviewed very similar to that Sainsbury's one with a cream sauce.. it's very good and l think 90p . A must to try is Asda's hunters chicken smokey and slightly spicy.
Stanford Street is on the South Bank in London on the Thames and is where Sainsbury's had there Butchery school. Long gone now.
Cheers Tom, good information, I never knew that 👌👌

Will try the Iceland one, Gareth, great find!

Looking at them now I think that I would prefer the Asda £3 one and it's on offer at the moment three for £7.50, ideal to stock up your freezer with for the winter. Great review, as always Gareth, and very honest and informative as usual. Keep up the good work 💯👍
Cheers Rosemary, you're welcome 👍👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy thanks Gareth, I look forward to your reviews every lunch time, can't wait to see what you have new for us. As a disabled person that can't get out and around supermarkets, it's great to see what's on offer, and new food ideas, as if it isn't a supermarket that delivers, like Aldi, Lidl, farmfoods etc. Then I have to rely on what other people say they have seen there. So for people like me you have a great channel , thanks so much 👍
Iceland Gareth just because of the gravy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A year on from your review of these Chicken Hotpots, the Iceland one has been discontinued, whereas the Sainsbury one (Stamford St Co) has been reduced in price to 85p. I tried it the other week and was really pleased with the result. Today i picked up some more of the Stamford St Co ready meals and noticed that they do a Cottage Pie. Any chance you could do a review of it, as they were sold out? Probably means that it must be OK?
Going to put some mature cheddar on top and grill for 5 mins
Oh yes 👌👌👌
Cooked chicken 10% - chicken breast fillet 96% on the Iceland - The Sainsbury's is just 10% of cooked chicken breast !! .... If you can work this out or explain it, you're a better man than me Gunga Din !! ... I haven't a clue how they get these percentages to be honest. .... I'm sure they baffle you with bullsh*t. ... I enjoyed the review.
Haha yes
My nearest Sainsbury is 6 miles away so for 10p it's not worth it compared to iceland half a mile away. Both look good though cheers Gareth see you on the next one
Cheers Paul yes totally agree
Hi Gareth, just add half a teaspoon of Marmite to the Iceland one makes the gravy taste beautiful.
Cheers David
You were a bit quick waving the boxes around, I like the Sainsburys one but I know the chicken is from Thailand, never had the Iceland one cant find out from their website where the chicken is from it was assembled in Ireland but I suspect it is from Thailand too.
Yes sorry it never said, Poland or Thailand.
I liked the look of the white sauce dish. 90p for a tasty hot meal is amazing.
Yes was pretty good, shocking good value I thought.
I have had the Stanford Street one before for the money it is excellent value and very tasty which isn't always the case with these value meals. These are better done in the oven if your wealthy enough to be able to turn your oven on or 5 mins in microwave then ten minutes in the air fryer to crisp the potato up a bit
Cheers pal
Both looks yummy, add some green veggies & bread n butter , winner winner chicken hotpot for dinner 😋🥦🥘🍞🧈. Thanks Gareth 🎅🎄
Cheers Sam
LOL at the ELF hanging from the cupboard for dear life haha
Haha yes, they are naughty 😂👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy 🤣👍
Fabulous 🔥👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have always preferred a hot pot with the white sauce but I have also had my eye on the iceland one a while.. sainsburys is is not an option for me,of which I’m sad about.
You remember the Findus vegetable hot pot? I I was crazy about that
Cheers Glenda
It would be the Iceland one for me. 👍
Well worth it either of them, maybe the I would choose the one without palm oil. Great for the cold weather.👍👍
Look ok for a squid.
Better than a pie for double+ the £slots more 'filling' and not forking out for dry pastry either.👌
Cheers David 👍👍
I must have missed this one !
Iceland one looks great , will have to look out for this one .
Hope you enjoy it!
Minus 3 cold dam Its 28 degrees C and very humid here in Australia the sunshine state of QLD and raining heavy
Very nice 👌👌
Both of those seem a great value! Great review 👍
Cheers Ted
Salt n Pepper.. splash of vinigar on them fritter's and a well buttered Crispy Baguette, with either one.
Yummy
Hey my disabled brother alway has the Sainsbury's one's in the freezer he eny them wit some mixed veg and bread and butter
Thanks for this i been lookikng for something similar , especially being lactose intolerant The sainsburys one looks nicer but ill give the iceland one a whirl as that still looks good and cant comaplain for a quid. Great review as always!
Cheers Taz, you're welcome
Great review Gareth.. Gonna get myself a couple of those for the freezer tommorrw. 👍
Cheers Richard 👍👍
Both looked very nice Gareth 👍🏻😁
I thought the Chicken pieces in the Sainsbury meal was better quality chicken than the
Iceland meal.
Good thing about the Iceland meal, much less sugar (6 grams less)
So it's a tough one.
👍🏻😁❄☃
Cheers Lee 👍👍
Am glad you found the Stamford Street budget brand, from Salisbury's,been around a while , as lot are similar to the asda budget brand, check out the bottom shelves ,where there normally hideing ,_3 here in Halifax, hope your keeping warm Gareth 😀
Cheers Andy 👍👍
Those Iceland 1 quid hotpots are super good value. Maybe a touch on the small side but paired with a couple of Yorkie puds it’d be more substantial. Then again I’m a chubby fella so I’m probably just too greedy lol. 😂
I've had a couple of Stamford street meals and their quite nice for a quick supper.
Love hotpot but here in Liverpool you can't beat a bowl of Scouse with red cabbage 😋 my favourite stew.
Cheers Julie
Sauté potatoes - chips that haven’t been chipped!
We call them fritters in Middlesbrough - in Manchester, they’re called scallops - but scallops are seafood!
Ay up an escaping potato……🥔”im off”….
Your enjoying them too much i think
Wouldn't buy the Sainsbury's one it contains Palm Oil.
They both look smashing, a couple of rounds of bread and you have a meal
Oh stop messing with em..😂
Totally spot on,nice with mashed potato and nice veg xx
Thank you Nicola 👌
Good review on both , a good handful of veg with them and you got a full healthy hot meal. can't go wrong being just a quid. 👍👍
Cheers pal
Both look decent for the money, id prefer the one with gravy though as im not a big fan of chicken with creamy sauces.
I got one in my freezer Gareth thanks for the video xxx👍👍👍
Iceland one xx
Cheers Frances xx
You'd be hard pushed to make it for that price. I'm guessing they must be loss leaders but I'm all for that! Good work
Cheers Ian
I remember the ASDA chicken hotpot you reviewed very similar to that Sainsbury's one with a cream sauce.. it's very good and l think 90p . A must to try is Asda's hunters chicken smokey and slightly spicy.
Cheers Colin
I think the Iceland £1 meals are good value I tend to stock up with the Iceland £1 meals and for a £1 good value and quite tasty too
Great blog but I’m sorry the sainsburys one reminded me of cats sick , so for me I go for Iceland
Cheers pal
