That was a gnarly crash that could have been much worse. Glad you are ok. My buddy and I were riding in Saltese this past weekend and he ended up breaking his leg in 4 places just from a minor spill. But I'm glad you are enjoying the new bike bro.
I share your exact same conclusions with my '24 300XCW . I had a very lengthy phone conversation with KTM guru tuner John Ross and he explained how poorly KTM mapped the fuel and the PV on the XCW's . With my updated tune, my '24 is a "gentile animal" meaning still super smooth and luggable, pulls smooth and hard into the mid, and the midrange "wall" I hit previously with my stock mapping is gone, now I have top end that REALLY hauls the mail !! Fuel mapping is crisp everywhere as well.
Great video! I always leave the shrouds mounted on the 2024 300 EXC gas tank when removing the tank. First unclip the rear part of each shroud then lift the tank up and it comes off with the shrouds mounted no problem. For my riding, when I switched to the TSP ERM tune fuel economy improved a lot (similar to a TPI) and I haven't found the need for a big tank (fuel economy was horrible with the stock tune). Crash at the end, ouch! If the bike starts rolling back always get off as quickly as possible. Glad you're not injured too badly...
You don't need to remove the shrouds to take the tank off. in the rearmost of the plastics, they just clip in, youve gotta bend them out to get them out, but they dont break. undo the radiator bolts, the one bolt in the middle of the tank, and then the fuel pump wiring and fuel hose, then lift!

Great video, I’ve watched it a couple of times now and plan to purchase the performance upgrades from Slavens. One small thing though, you stated in the video you didn’t have time to test each part individually so if you left it in the new performance mapping then added the cylinder head and tsp valve cover, you can’t really say that the ecu was the biggest improvement. You would need to revert to stock mapping and then add the cylinder head and ride it to compare. Either way, it sounds like a lot of people really tout the ecu so I’m gonna give it a whirl. $450 though, ouch!

Back in the mid 80’s when Kawi came out with the KIPS power valve someone, maybe Pro Circuit, sold a spacer that was 5-10 mm wide that added volume to the cover just like your new cover.

Yes and no. I have the tsp products on my ‘24 xcw and while they are significant performance upgrades, they do not turn the xcw into an xc. In the fast stuff, the xc will smoke the w every time. I have both bikes and they’re both awesome. Honestly, I don’t know which one I like better. I appreciate the videos and your enthusiasm. Good stuff!
There's a lot to be said for comfort on the bike. The way the rear linkage settles into corners vs the pds can mean your right hand is slowing you down more than any motor mods.
Gnarly crash man. I do think that PV cover will make a difference. The PV cover/chamber is designed to be an extension of the subports in the cylinder when the power valve is closed, so increasing the volume increases the bottom end torque. I put a power valve spacer on my older mechanical power valve Honda cr250 and it was a noticeable improvement on luggability for more hard enduro type trails and roll on power under the pipe. They're pretty common on Betas too.
I have a 24 xcw and no you don’t need to remove shrouds. I think it comes off with 3 bolts. The one up top by the seat and a couple bolts by the radiators.

Do you ride track or trail? That's a tiny chassis for a 240lb man 😂 Race gas isn't super available here. Where it is available it's $100+ for a 5 gallon can. @@KincadePavich wasn’t sure if I run the erm with the head or not ? Was it better for hard stuff ? I’m more struggling with the singles needing more power to pull the right gearing otherwise it’s like a 125 up down up down
I think there's something to be said for over shooting with the power gains in regards to a technical trail bike. Pinnit racing recommends his lower comp head insert and he offers a PV cover at half the price of the TSP, BTW. Lower comp will run cooler and even out the power. My observation of your consistent lost momentum and rolling backwards is that gravity wins out over your lack of fwd momentum. The speed where you feel in control is already below a critical point. That trying too late is when you should quickly drop the bike. I think you have to gain momentum in the right places, before these critical points. Try and gain confidence in the bikes deep lug rpm , then gear selection will smooth out the clutch work. Try to use the mind set of 200cc momentum. Great videos BTW.
I am struggling to get the wheel up with my 24 250XC-W...like bad. Clutch windups and a hard bounce or pull and I can barely get the thing up more than a foot. So frustrating.
Same problem with my tx 300 23 , compared to a carbureted it seems a lot harder to get the front wheel up but you watch Rich Larson. He does just fine.
It’s a bummer the internet thinks the fuel pick up on the stock 23-25 has issues … it works perfect oem. For someone like you who actually rides you would have zero issues. I have a 24 and ran stock tank almost dry zero issues. Now have the IMS and also have had no issues with fuel pick up. Only time would be if bike is on stand not moving and almost out of fuel Then yeah it wouldn’t pic up
I've enjoyed your last few videos of the 2025 XC-W. But to be honest, sounds like buying and XC and adding a bigger stator and a flywheel weight would be a hell of a lot cheaper to end up with the same result. Thoughts?
My thoughts too ! I m wondering which way is a better idea, bigger stator and suspension mods on an xc or head mod, ECU mod, reed valve mod and exhaust valve cover on an xcw ? And still not quite the performance at an xc ?
@dougwelch6446 lots of people say XC-W cause it was no rear linkage. Well that is practically the only XC or Enduro bike / brand doing that and they are not on the top of the podium all the time. Don't think it makes that big of difference. Cheaper to modify an XC than the XC-W. I'll be buying an XC next bike.
Kincade, did you hardwire your fan or use the factory connector? I cant get mine to turn on, apparently the tps controller can remedy this issue with the ktm OCU?
@KincadePavich the xc fan? I bought the ktm spal fan, however when it's connected to the factory connector it never comes on. Odd. Going to hardwire it but I received my tsp today and I heard there's a setting you can change to make the fan work properly with the ktm OCU

Do you think you would do a build on a KLX300R?
I’d love to see dyno numbers if possible.
Only thing that's missing is a pipe guard!!
Great video! Wondering if you have messed with the gearing at all or plan to? Would be nice to see it in a video. Thanks
Yessir running 12/48 covered in this video! ua-cam.com/video/e0OQRc1wREY/v-deo.html
@@KincadePavich thank you! Confirmed because I already ordered the 48 tooth sprocket! Erm next!
I have 2 broken 12 tooth sprockets... Went back to 13 tooth to stick with supersprox because they don't break.
@@leftyeh6495 what brand? You broke teeth off 12T sprockets or what? Never really heard of a front sprocket breaking
Would you recommend the high or medium comp head?
Make a dyno run with your friends stock bike and your modified!
Was that the tune that came with the erm or did you do your own ?
@@MichaelPrest-s9q I downloaded TSPs recommended map for this bike which I believe is the XC tune and recently added the map switch and their soft tune as well
@@KincadePavich wasn’t sure if I run the erm with the head or not ?
Was it better for hard stuff ? I’m more struggling with the singles needing more power to pull the right gearing otherwise it’s like a 125 up down up down
you gotta get a pipe guard
The ERM is for 250s as well. I bet it would wake that bike up too. Seriously, night and day difference.
Same problem with my tx 300 23 , compared to a carbureted it seems a lot harder to get the front wheel up but you watch Rich Larson. He does just fine.
Was that monte on the Honda in your first group ride? I can’t tell, doesn’t appear to be wearing red flannel. Does monte do the enduro stuff too?
That was Preston Campbell. Monty doesn't really ride hard enduro
Only time would be if bike is on stand not moving and almost out of fuel Then yeah it wouldn’t pic up
What was the reasoning to go with a colder plug? Does the high comp head require it?
@@tb1951 yes that is the plug they recommend with that high comp head
Colder plug will be more resistant to premature detonation (pinging, spark knock, etc). Detonation kills pistons.
Would you put a exhaust on it
Interesting! So how many $$$ is this on top of a $12k bike?
Why did you mix at 60:1? It seems lean, but just curious the thought behind what ratio to mix it at.
KTM factory spec. 60:1 is plenty of oil for anything besides a small-bore MX bike.
@@OtisFlint Gotcha. Im not familiar with KTM 2-Strokes or enduro oriented 2-strokes. I use 40:1 in my YZ 250. Thanks for the clearity
I've enjoyed your last few videos of the 2025 XC-W. But to be honest, sounds like buying and XC and adding a bigger stator and a flywheel weight would be a hell of a lot cheaper to end up with the same result. Thoughts?
Rear suspension...
@leftyeh6495 Yes, if you really don't want rear linkage. Hope you are all healed up from your crash!!!
I'll be buying an XC next bike.
noticed you removed the ims tank nad put on the original tank at the end, any reason for that?
No that’s the IMS tank, I never took it off
@@KincadePavich oh yeah, i think the handguards made it look a bit smaller
I think I missed the part when you installed the reverse gear
Kincade, did you hardwire your fan or use the factory connector? I cant get mine to turn on, apparently the tps controller can remedy this issue with the ktm OCU?
I have the XC fan; it's wired directly to the battery.
@KincadePavich the xc fan? I bought the ktm spal fan, however when it's connected to the factory connector it never comes on. Odd. Going to hardwire it but I received my tsp today and I heard there's a setting you can change to make the fan work properly with the ktm OCU
Your back tire let you down on that climb
