t wasn't acting to her back then. In her own words, she loved people and she loved what she was doing. You can see on her face that she really enjoyed her young career.
I loved both Shirley and James Dunn. This was a great act. Mind you, the kiss curl on Shirley's forehead is glued down. She slipped during a break and got a bonk. Her mom glued the curl down to hide the bump. Then told her to "sparkle Shirley". And she did.
Oh so nice to see this in color, nothing wrong with the black and white but color really makes this pop. She's such a good tapper, lol 3 or 4 year olds can't tap like her, I seen them lol she was exceptional
This is a very charming scene, and IMO, the only scene in "Stand Up and Cheer" that's really worth watching. This was the movie that helped to launch little Shirley into the national spotlight and made her a star. She was really just a little doll here, and it's obvious that she REALLY enjoyed what she was doing! James Dunn was also great in this scene. He was a nice guy who was a great singer and actor, but unfortunately his drinking habits got in the way of his career and managed to stall it for a long time. I'm also guessing that this movie was made just before the passage of the Hayes code, because I noticed here (and in some other parts of the film), that some of the outfits the ladies wore were pretty risqué for a 1930s film!
James Dunn gave some of the best performances on film. And I don’t mean just with Shirley. But, I have to say of my favorite films of hers BRIGHT EYES is probably #1, because she’s with him. P.S. Colorizing this was a travesty! (And Art Deco looks GREAT anyway they use it)
Yes some people are born for that it should be encouraged and developed she was lucky to have parents who encouraged her talent and didn’t try to smother it the way mine did
A portion of this scene, sans the actor, was used in another Shirley Temple movie with Jack Okie. THAT movies shows Shirley getting a little older a bit at a time. It shows WHITE gloves up close so you don’t see THIS actor close up. The film is YOUNG PEOPLE. 1940.
I can't stop smiling! I grew up watching her movies, even had curls like hers only natural. She's so precious! A true blue, one of kind, genuine talent. I hope she realised how many people she made happy.

I think the movie is cool and hope people will give it a chance. A spirited and hopeful vibe! Contrast to the present day,
