    Hi I am writing an essay about the importance of the orginal learned helplessness study, it's context and it's effects on research. i was watching your behaviourism/learning theory playlist and expecting this above topic to intercept but it's a seperate video. Where would this lie in the research because I'm aware that seligman was contradicting the behaviourists....a few pointers would be great

      I would say one of the main challenges to traditional behaviorist views was the persistence of the helplessness in that the dogs struggled to change their behavior in response to punishments or rewards. This meant behaviorist explanations would need to incorporate the longer term influences of prior learning in explaining responses, which may involve more cognitive components.
