@@PaulSmith-od6dp even if he hacked himself a Dragon Rage Magikarp, since it's apparently a valid pokemon that existed, it could still answer the question "can Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow be beaten with only Magikarp?" and it'll probably become a yes answer too!
If only twenty were released all the way back in 1998, then I doubt these magikarp even exist at all anymore. Most were probably leveled up, and because of the case with its trainer id, would be identical to any other gyarados. And even if it wasn't leveled up, the game would probably be reset, lost, or even have its battery run dry, being as this was in the original gameboy cartridges. And because it's gen 1, they can't be transferred to any newer games, besides gen 2, which doesn't fix any of the issues if losing the magikarp to time. So yeah, this is probably the rarest Pokémon ever, as the chances that one even exists is next to none.
@@parad0xheart Here's the deal right, gen 1 carts CAN still be going but if played extensively they can die and have done well before now. Being that universitykarps were probably obtained mostly by pokemon nerds... I doubt one of these exists.
Pokemon Stadium 2 and GS could also hold this event Pokemon indefinitely (or at least, until the memory card it was stored on had expired, which should take much longer to occur than Red/Blue.)
I doubt they were evolved, to have won this competition you'd have to be really knowledgeable on pokemon. So they definitely knew keeping it as a magikarp is what made it unique.

The problem with events in Japan even nowadays is that they still require travel and/or buying things, while international events are at worst a serial code from a hopefully nearby chain store. Movie events require traveling to the cinema, several movie events require pre-ordering a movie ticket, and Shiny Arceus was a straight-up ~$300 1/19 lootbox.
nice video and very accurate, i noticed you used my ebay listing for the $7750 unikarp...i listed it high to attract people to my other auctions. I would value my card, which recently graded a PSA 8 around 3-4k usd, but that is my opinion.
I think what they were trying to say is that if you study REALLY hard you can learn some top tier shit that typically only adults, or, "evolved" people know. Right? It is "University Magikarp". Probably trying to re-enforce the importance of schooling.
1:55 the except for black and white is even more amazing when you think about the fact that the only reason magikarp isn't in them because they just have pokemon of their gen in the first playthrough.
at least they thought about it unlike shinno first run which had only 3 fire types and they thought making an elite four fire member was a great idea but once it got time to programe his time they were like well shit were already done with the character and idea and we only got a few months to get this out oh well lets just lump a ghost and normal type onto his time no one will care if they have fire attacks
I would love a video of the history of Pokémon. The history of manga, anime, and the games. Ex. What’s canon, the different stories about red and how it affects the timeline with Ashe. I’m naive about all that stuff
The catch rate of a pokemon is what determines what held item it comes with on gen 2. Gen 1 for some reason had catch rate data saved on the pokemon file itself rather than determined by species. Since a caught pokemon has no need for catch rate data, it's considered junk. This was used to store item data in gen 2. That's how a gen 2 game can determine the difference between the yellow version Pikachu and a Red/ Green or Blue Pikachu. You can also trade a pokemon holding an item to gen 1 and return it to gen 2 and it will still be holding it.
@@zero9112 Jesus, gen 2 was really a marvel of a game, not only did it fit two games in one, but it also had specific Pokemon transferred have hold items and or be shiny. That is true dedication to a game.

I think it'd be cool if the magikarp had like, glasses on + a hat maybe and was like a shiny(in game mechanics) with a 0% encounter rate, meaning you'd have to get it from this event, then the gyarados would have the same thing but a graduation hat
If one would have a Dragonrage Magicarp on the console version of the game, could it be transported via Pokébank, or doesn't the bank accept it? My legit Pokémon Ranch Mew didn't get accepted by the Pokébank though.
If someone did manage to keep it as a Magikarp and somehow transfer it to a game compatible with pokebank, would it be seen as an illegitimate Pokémon by pokebank because of the move Dragon Rage or would it be let through?
I know this is a year and a half old video now, but to me, it seems like it was meant to be an annual thing that just didn't go like they wanted it to the first time. Shame too because this could have been something huge if they kept doing it
