I also kinda think it would make it more like riding a bike through a forest. Unless you are a long non stop canyon road, you would be stopping or slowing down anyway, especially if you are going around to look at magical creatures. :)
I got the very back the first time and then the very front the second time I went. The front you definitely feel the speed and you get the benefit of being at the highest point when you “lose power” (which should have been higher imo). In the back you really feel the g forces on the turns and especially when you start moving backwards...
The reason you might not have found it to be like a spooky forest is because the trees are young and in like 5-10 years it will look more like the forbidden forest. Edit: 190 likes! That's the most I've ever gotten 😁😁

Though, the line even on the best days of overcast weather and off-season will always be way longer for a coaster meant to be in universal not a wild mouse family coaster at SFNE, and it'll still be sub-par and ok in comparison to two epic B&M inverts. Harry Potter ruined universal, they are so lazy now and don't build anything that original or good anymore. Jason Bourne? Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is one of my favorite, I waited in a 3.5 hour line at park opening and got the front row bike. This ride is also my little sister’s favorite coaster.
Me and my friend went on this for the first time last summer. The drop track.... holy sh*t. It dropped and me and my friend just nonstop we’re yelling/screaming “oh my god” uncontrollably until the rider came to an end
I got lucky with a front row night ride on the bike when I went and that was my first ride and only ride on it. Holy crap this ride is incredible. I haven’t been to Sea World or the Fun Spots but I can easily say this is the best coaster in Universal and even better than anything at Busch Gardens Tampa. I also rode with my family and they had no clue about the surprises on this ride which I specifically kept a secret and they were so shocked and when they got off they loved it as well. I 100% agree with your review.
I don't think the animatronics are really that important but after watching the videos from Rise of the Resistance today it's pretty remarkable how much further ahead Disney is than Universal in that area specifically.
Universal might not have as many animotronics, but what they make are just as good. This also is a mostly outdoor roller coaster so, electric animotronics might not be a good idea, and even then they are still pretty good.
Universal > Disney. Disney’s ride quality has gone downhill. Universal I just killing it the past decade, except F&F, which shouldn’t have been a thing, lmao.
Rode this back in July 2019. Had to wait 3 hours in line due to technical difficulties. When it finally was fully operational again, I was able to get in the front seat and it was 100% worth it. Would wait 3 hours again.
I just rode this past weekend and knew nothing of the reverse or the drop track and it was AWESOME!!! I knew about the multiple accelerations but not knowing about the other elements made it so much more fun.
Rode it yesterday once, it was fantastic! Got assigned back row motorbike, and I’m sure front would’ve been better, but the back gave me some pretty crazy whip for a family coaster. It was also my first motorbike coaster, and I never thought I’d get airtime. Luckily I didn’t get stapled (unintentional btw) and it was a pretty crazy experience for a mild coaster. Launches were actually better than I was expecting as well. Not fantastic, especially in a park with Velocicoaster and even hulk, but they hold their ground. This ride is fantastic and the theming is astonishing alone
Great review - I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect 10 but it does a lot of tings right and for a family coaster it was definitely more thrilling than I expected. I was there yesterday and finally got to ride. The last 4 times I went to the park I wasn’t able to ride it for one reason or another. Yesterday the line was only 60 minutes, and I only waited about 45. I was single rider and the single rider line was closed, but when I got to the final loading room they skipped me ahead and I walked right on. Also, previously the line closed at 3-4 - this time I got in line at 5:30 and the park closed at 6, so I got a dusk ride - not completely dark, but definitely added to the ambience. Glad to see they finally got the kinks out and they are actually keeping the ride open with park hours.
I rode Hagrid's for the first time when I was 32. I'm a bit afraid of heights and this was my first coaster since I was probably 15. People had a great time laughing at me freaking out from the vertical part where you go backwards and the drop track. Now, I run to it during EPA.
I rode it without knowing about the drop track. Yeah that part gave me a heart attack. I rode the mummy not knowing the fire was gonna be real and didn’t know about the fakeout ride lady so thag was fun. Went back recently, rode it completely alone due to covid causing the studio side to have 0 people outside of diagon. My first real coaster was the hulk which I rode not knowing about the launch. First ride of the day, went in single rider which was super short so I didn’t see any train launch and got put the front row. Screamed my head off. Universal Orlando is the only place where the rides consistently scare me.
I experienced this for the first time yesterday because it also happened to be my first trip IOA. All of my research and attention was given to Velocicoaster. So I knew almost nothing about this coaster. So, as you can imagine, I screamed like a little girl when I felt the drop track! 😅
I know it's a family ride but one mild inversion a la cheetah hunt would take this thing to the next level. Even just a twist in the track as you go up the half hill before going backwards would be insane (like wicked twister)
Back in RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 ages I used to have a Harry Potter themed park with a very similar idea of a ride. It was called "Aragogue", located at the forbidden woods and it was B&M floorless coaster.
Really great in-depth review! I have yet to ride it , last year when I was at islands of adventure it wasn’t open yet. As like your self I do have a very strong bond with departed dueling dragons. I rode it as a kid with my high school girlfriend at night with the fire works going off. True rainbow road feel at such a fun time in my life on that coaster. This coaster is high on my list but the likely good of me riding it anytime soon is very slim considering I live 5 minutes away from Universal Hollywood and they would never build a coaster like that unless it was screen based. I have also never been on a drop track coaster which I would love. Great review as always . Keep up the great content
First time ride I got the second row bike and it was amazing. I do wish they would at least add a helix or an inclined loop with the last launch because it does feel like it just abruptly ends.
I purposely didn’t watch any videos of the ride before riding it and it was the best thing ever! First time I rode a rollercoaster with a drop section and it was freaking amazing 😂
I think this'd make the G.O.A.T of Parodies. "From the ride with not one, not two, not three, but Seven Launches! Best make the most of the record before Alton towers makes a 14 Billion Launched Rollercoaster."
Just rode, was pleasantly surprised! I figured ride itself would be fine and it was more about the experience...but the ride was actually quite fun!! Obviously not fast or crazy but it does just enough and I kinda liked all the launches and more unique elements.
I agree that they could put some more creatures! But I rode it at night, right after I had given up riding it but ran to the cue and it was amazing! Best roller coaster I’ve ever ridden
I agree with you on the fact that the front row bike seat is the best seat on this ride. It literally makes you feel like you are riding a motorcycle. I might think about getting a motorcycle license after that experience. 😁😁😁
I waited in line for about 2 and a half hours for this ride, got a middle seat. I went on it twice in total. The biggest disappointment for me is that the ride ops staple you every time. However, i think i actually prefer it to the dragons overall (minus the wait times). It's a spectacular coaster in terms of theming and of course the actual rollercoaster. The last launch is surprisingly intense as well. My love for this ride might come from the fact that i'm from the UK, and we don't have any LSM coasters outside of Icon (which I haven't been on) that are like this. It's an amazing fit for the park but i think that the biggest benefit in my opinion, is that it teaches the parks that building rollercoasters, particularly heavily themed ones, can be profitable. This ride had people trying to get on like they were trying to save their lives. Overall, it's definitely a great coaster, but I wish that the ride ops wouldn't staple you.
I didn't know the reverse section or the drop track was coming (my cousin thankfully kept it a secret), and they got me really good. For a second I was like "oh crap we didn't make it up!!!"
Have you ridden Rise of the Resistance? Apparently that ride is amazing with theming. Anyways, this ride is really cool looking. I have yet to see it in person, or ride it for that matter.
Single rider lines are amazing at universal I do them with my family and mostly every time we’ve done single rider we always went up riding together either way
I think they made this a milder ride, knowing that the Jurassic Coaster is coming .. I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and coaster enthusiast, and I loved this ride.
Hey Coaster Studios! When I rode this opening week, we were stopped twice during the ride and eventually had to be evacuated (apparently the first time they ever did that, so cool story I can tell now since it didn't end in a sad manner). That was during the day. We, thank God, got to ride it when it reopened late at night, and I agree that the ride is not the same at night than day. Being in the last cart on that big drop was intense. Everything about this ride was amazing, except one thing was kind of awkward: the queue. I get the theming and all, and as a Harry Potter fan I found it pretty cool, but when you're stuck in a slow line in tight caves and small rooms, it can feel rather uncomfortable (the overhead bikes section was cool, but does get kind of obnoxious after a bit). I absolutely agree though, 10/10, go ride this ride...!
Universal's parks are great enough to take on Disney. Now all they need is good management and workers that dont act like they want to strangle you and they would actually be able to dethrone Disney.
I rode the ride twice. The wait times are insane, however I do believe that the ride makes the wait completely worth it. I got a chance to ride on the bike on the second row and sidecar on the last row. I would say the I loved the second row much more, because riding the back row, you get absolutely no loss of weight on the spike. The only big thing they need to work on is fixing the break down issue.
Just rode HMCMA today. I rode it front row side car. This blows every Intamin (expect Skyrush). What you said is what I thought about it. I hope you enjoyed Florida Taylor.
As someone who isn't much of a coaster fan, but a serious HP fan, should I get on this? My concerns are the first exhilarated hill, the straight up and back hill, and the drop section. I do, however, ride mine train at Magic Kingdom and Everest at Animal Kingdom, but am kind of scared during the hill/black trail part on Gringotts bank. Would someone who has rode Hangrids magical creatures before please let me know if you'd recommend I ride this ride or pass? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I ask because i love HP and just dont want to ride the ride and then have a bad experience. I'd rather skip the ride if yall dont see me liking it.
The sections aren’t longer because the launch serves as a block section. With the moving loading station, a train is dispatched very often.
That is a very good point
Coaster Studios That is also why Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket has so many mid course brake runs.
It's crazy how good the throughput is yet the lines are still enormous. Imagine if it could only run 2/3 trains like normal coasters imagine the queue on opening day wow
Smart!
I also kinda think it would make it more like riding a bike through a forest. Unless you are a long non stop canyon road, you would be stopping or slowing down anyway, especially if you are going around to look at magical creatures. :)

Front row at night is the best experience I’ve ever had on any ride
Also, will there be a Wonder Park review on April Fools?
I didn't know the reverse section or the drop track was coming (my cousin thankfully kept it a secret), and they got me really good. For a second I was like "oh crap we didn't make it up!!!"
I'm so glad your giving family coasters 10s.
I was at island and universal yesterday, and when on hagrids, it’s a great ride and I totally recommend it
Will you do a operations video for six flags great America?
Ludwig Von Koopa yes
i didn't watch the pov so every thing would be a surprise so i filliped out like crazy
I think the animatronics on this ride are spectacular, especially Hagrid. This isnt really a coaster, its a story led, themed RIDE!
I rode it for the first time on December 2nd and yes... I did not know about the drop track. I definitely jumped. Front row bike!
Best ride i’ve ever been on hands down!
This ride was downright awesome.
DANG that looks like an expensive coaster to build...
ad ray 300 million dollars went into building it
it is THE most expensive, passing the old record holder Expedition Everest
$300 million? yeahhhhhhhhhh...
Only had chance to ride it once but was so lucky to get the front row, the bike, and it was at dusk.
I’m still trying to figure out where you reach the 50 mph max speed
Austin Williams probably last launch
A L X-games you’re probably right, but I feel like it would be the fourth launch because that section is slightly longer than the last section
last launch for sure. thats the fastest point of the ride
Are they still not opening it till 10am? I'm going Thursday and want to make sure I can get on it.
Don't worry, IOA is getting its own Taron in 2021 ;)
Taron meets Flying Dinosaur!
Happy New Year Taylor!
great ride, i feel like this is just a warm-up for the velocicoaster!
I love this coaster!
This ride is 10x better at night!!😁👍
On the drop track in Verbolten I freaked out because my glasses fell off!
I personally loved the ride but imagine if they had a section where the ride went through a massive studio only to come back out again.
was so hyped to go on it this march... damn you coronavirus!!!
Universal is open now. Masks are allowed only inside (but I don’t remember if you also need masks on ride)
