You’ve totally nailed it! Thanks for sharing. What’s your opinion on the older versions of the katana compared with the latest? Sorry I realise this is Qtron vid!
Thank you! The newer Katanas sounds pretty much the same to the old ones when the knob is pulled in. When it's pulled out, the newer ones are actually better. Something I like about the new ones as well is the switch, but I like the knob on the older ones better
@@JohnMayerGear thanks mate, that’s so helpful. I’ve just ordered an old ts10 and wondering which katana to save up for. If you haven’t got a silver sky, you should start a go fund me, I’d happily contribute! Thanks again!
I'm not sure what John means by "before". In my mind, "before" in the signal chain means "guitar > envelope > OD" but that would create exactly what he says you don't want, to overdrive the signal BEFORE it reaches the pedal. I'm confused
That is correct. Guitar into envelope first, and then OD. This will get a cleaner signal for the envelope which will then be distorted. Afaik you want to have envelope filters as close to a clean signal as possible, otherwise the signal gets kind of "muddy" and won't trigger the filter as easily. Once the signal is modulated by the envelope filter, then it can go through distortion and other effects.
Hey, thanks! I am using a Headrush multi effects unit, and i can't for the life of me figure out what the settings translate to. It is not the same as the real pedal. On modes there is no LP, only HP, BP. You can also choose 12, 18 or 24 DB, but I can't figure what it means. Also i can set the Base Freq, which I cant figure out. It is also difficult to pinpoint where in the chain I should set the pedals
To test the differences between having one in front and one in the loop, as JM has used up to three Katanas on board, and sometimes having one for the Q-Tron loop
I have the Nano Q, Q Plus & Mini Q. In my experience the nano & plus are very different pedals… they share some core elements but the mini is the closest to the plus for my style. Beware though (pedalboard space) the Mini is about twice as big as the plus, not real sure why it’s labeled the mini. 😂
John Mayer tones??? You mean the tones John Mayer copied from Jerry Garcia using an envelope filter. Mayer has never developed his own sound, he’s just copying SRV, Hendrix, and Jerry Garcia, without putting his own personal style on it. It’s too bad because he’s a decent player, but he never developed his own voice with the guitar
You want to hate Mayer so bad but you're obsessed with him. You haven't listened to anything past 2013. He definitely has his own voice and you're just mad lmao.
SRV “copied” buddy guy, BB king, Earl King, and Hendrix……and he used a tube screamer……he had a super “unoriginal” sound. Lol The reality is all these guys are creative and amazing. And John definitely has his own sound.
I love that John Mayer answered the pedal placement question himself. Nice touch.
I Don’t Trust Myself tone still so elusive to us mortals. Have never seen anyone get very close.
Nice playing here man and lovely tones
Super elusive tone! Thanks!
it was done with a Roger Linn Adrenalinn pedal not a Qtron, but that's what he uses nowadays
Wow this is the video I’ve been waiting for!! I don’t understand the settings at all but I have had a Q Tron+ for years
I hope this helps!
This video is awesome! I have the EarthQuaker Devices Spatial Delivery and figuring out the right input impedance was a game changer.
Woah! Being able to hit the input impedance should be perfect to fine-tune the response
This is really helpful man. Thanks for posting
Thanks, Gino!
It's very helpful. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you!

Very Interesting!
Have you any suggestions for power the Qtron plus straight into the pedal power pack?
If is’t possibile..
Thanks
What power supply are you using? Voodoo Lab Power Plus 2?
@@JohnMayerGear yes i have that one!
@@alessandrovitali4101 the easiest way to get 24v is using output 5 and 6 set to 12v and use a voltage doubler adapter
What guitar are you using? Super nice
That's a 2012 MIA Strat, that's been slightly modified through the years

@@JohnMayerGear Okay no problem. Thanks for the video!
What is the size of your pedalboard? Is it a pedaltrain?
Yes, it's a Pedaltrain 1
just curious, why two katanas?
To test the differences between having one in front and one in the loop, as JM has used up to three Katanas on board, and sometimes having one for the Q-Tron loop
Did you run the Q-tron with the 24V power supply or a 18V or lower power supply?
24v power supply
is there a big difference between the nano Q tron and the Q tron plus? because its like... cheaper 🙄
Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try the Nano to see how close it is
okey ty though
