While not a motorhead, I don't think there's anything wrong with a Tesla pick, it's solid. For me personally, Tesla's tablet dash is just a no-go for me. I still blindly reach over to various controls every now and then and just do it by feel alone. You can't safely do that in any car that only has a display for a dash. At least the Canoo has capacitive buttons (gross, but they're buttons).
Canoo is supposed to begin commercial deliveries in July and won’t be doing consumer deliveries until 2024 best case. I’m skeptical even of that schedule. Report came out today that Canoo’s battery plant is up and running.
I've been thinking of getting an EV when I finally decide to replace my current daily. I REALLY like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, The Tesla Model Y Long Range is good and it comes with the gold standard of fast charging networks. The Ford Mustang Mach-e ain't bad, but but I do have concerns about reliability. I've heard too much about VW's software problems to trust an ID-4 or ID Buzz. I'd definitely put the Canoo on my list if it were available. The good thing is that my daily has less than 30,000 miles so I have some time to see how things shake out before I have to put my money down. I'm still interested in seeing how things work out.
Tbh the Model Y has pretty much replaced my '01 Tacoma with its hitch and big 'ol interior. I think Canoo is going to pull this off and have sunk a deposit and some stock for that sweet pickup.
Fisker Ocean is pretty great, but I'm not convinced they'll be available to really buy and drive anytime soon. Also, I believe the first years production is only the high end version.. if you're looking for some value, you'll most likely find it at Fisker, it just may take a while.
@@GearboxPizza If Canoo doesn't start deliveries within the next year, I might just go with the upcoming Ioniq 5 N. I like the look of it better than the EV6, and it should have performance comparable to or better than the EV6 GT.
Completely agree about the VW ID Buzz. The original campervan looked unique but the modern one is just a minivan with a two-tone paint job. Slightly quirky vibes but I'd say it appeals more to middle age mums or your typical Fiat 500 customer rather than mass appeal.
Spot on. Seriously, the FIRST EV manufacturer to produce a decent SUV for less than $50k wins. Amazed that none of these companies can produce a decent SUV that retails for less than $100k. I won’t even mention the expensive FSD software the car companies seem to think everyone wants.
This! So much this! And don't get me started with all these trucks.. so expensive, all of them. If by the grace of god Canoo can build and deliver their pickup at $50k or less, they'd sell every single one they could produce.
You forgot about the Fisker Ocean. It's better than every vehicle you mentioned and deliveries start next month. Should charge faster than any other EV in the US as well.
What are the chances that the UK's Morris JE reaches production/delivery before Canoo? Granted, it's still in pre-(pre?)production and won't be mass produced - then there's the added import cost. The Van (and Truck variant) look pretty cool with that funky retro vibe.
Get the Y and be happy to not be burning fossil fuel. I ended up grabbing a used Bolt because my Leaf just didn't have enough range for me to really keep it as my only vehicle, and I coudn't be happier. But I'm all about efficient driving and not about the 0-60, and I am pleasantly surprised at how efficient the Bolt is.
Yea, same. I thought it was actually a pretty solid car.. not as fast as it should have been, and WAY WAY WAY overpriced, but I got mine used, with 5k miles on it.. was 1/2 the sticker price.. amazing value really.
Totally! I mean, the sticker on mine was over $83k i believe, maybe more.. and i paid $35 i think, with only 5k miles.. really feel bad for anyone who actually bought one new.. ouch. So yea, terrible at the price, but at $35k, hey, it's a really really nice version of the Volt, that looks pretty great.
I'm still holding out for the Canoo LV. The schematics for the conversion are already done. Too bad it will take until at least late 2024 or a good day/month/year later? To quote George Michaels, I GOTTA HAVE FAITH. Then again, George Michaels is dead, so maybe my faith is misplaced. RIP, WHAM!. No RIP on the pink shorts, though. That was a bit out of control. If BYD and other lesser brands stepped up their game in the American market, things would change drastically. There's a completely untapped market from the Eastern front, even though we have distribution rights on the Western front. I understand there would be a pice bump, due to shipping costs and tariffs, but options are options. I'm still weighing said options. Maybe I'll just sell all and grab a velomobile. That's how jaded I am at this point. Some may think of me as being daft in having hope that unifying nations through transportation and global preservation could actually work. But wait. What? What is this Daft that you speak of? Daft Light on Daft in a pint with a lime? Sign me up! I'm not shy to admit that I love not knowing what I speak of, but I'll drink to it, along with whatever this floaty little pill is in my Daft.
Not a great time to be looking for a car in general I believe. I just had my 2020 bolt in for the recall repair on the battery, I got bombarded with phone calls about wanting to buy it from me from the dealership itself, or properly a call center that feeds off the dealerships data. There's just supply constraints all over the place. I'm hopeful that come. Maybe January next year I'll be able to get into an equinox EV that's a straight up across the line upgrade from my bolt. All-wheel drive, faster charging and upgraded range, plus it's available with some towing capacity. As much as I ever need to move anything by car, a rented U-Haul trailer is a meaningful substitute for a van or pick up for me who has a relatively small one car garage.
On the positive side, more EV choice than ever before. The negative, nothing but a lot of CUVs, crazy prices and mostly unappealing. I would love a Canoo but my confidence in them ever making delivery is low. Have you considered the Ford Transit EV?
You're right.. really looking forward to additional options. Haven't thought much about the Transit.. not really looking for a van, unless it's a Canoo.. and even with Canoo, I'd prefer the Adventure trim, so it's a bit more suv than van.. but who knows!
@@GearboxPizza I’m not a Ford shill, but I think the Transit can be had with AWD and raised suspension. Would give a lot of the functionality of the Canoo. I guess we’ll see in July if they can start deliveries?
Yea! I was lucky enough to be invited to have one for 2 years.. Really liked it, obviously it had a few drawbacks. It really felt heavy, which i guess is both good and bad, and range wise, on a good day you were looking at about 85 miles.. That's it. And yes, I ran out of juice once, close to home.. had to knock on a random front door, extension cord in hand... "mind if i borrow some electricity?"
I would go for the Blazer EV SS in this price range. Tesla is expanding the magic doc for CCS cars and the CCS networks are also expanding. Unless your crisscrossing LA to NYC every month I would go for the SS.
LOL... yea, the lengths I'll go to avoid being on camera.. working on a custom character, the flaming skeleton fella' we've named Johnny Knuckles, but it's taking a while, and life, yea life.. it's busy. Hope you're well pal!
Watched the public "ground breaking" stuff in OK at the proposed plant site. They are clueless. Completely clueless. Just dumped the stock and cancelled my order. Go ahead and find a replacement. Tesla just looks bad, poor interior design. Only thing going for the Tesla is the charging network. I would take the Hyundai's and Kia's over the Tesla. Canoo will not survive.
I fear that you're both right as well. Have been considering investing in them until recently. They really have something with the design of the LSV and the pickup. If only another company like Tesla would grab them and get them to production, but I don't see them wanting to hurt market share with the Cybertruck.
@@tonyo.8623 If Canoo actually had infrastructure on the ground and something in place and were actually in the process of getting product out the door they probably would be a buyout target.
