Has life found its way in your life? Chaos came through and showed you how little control we really have? Yes. Malcolm was right. I think we all see it when we grow up.
WesMordine Yes, i have actually changed my opinion about many parts of life...I can safely say that Jurassic Park, and especially the first novel, plays a huge role in my every day life.
So to be fair Ian Malcolm is a critical because he is the conscience of the series. He explains the truth just very bluntly. He has evolved through out the entire franchise.
As a kid I didn’t like Ian when he said John this is a bad idea but as I got older and rewatched these films I actually began to like him and really understand why he is so against Jurassic park
Not really.. Ian Malcolm is the actual face of Jurassic Park and voice of reason and warnings.. Grant is just a bine digger who happens to learn about raptors and learned a lot from Robert Muldoon .. He's just a popular character that's about it, Ia. malcolm is mire than that if you ever paid attention to the characters and movies and books
Malcolm has always been my favorite, but the consensus I have gotten was that Grant is the more popular character. The first film was about flinging an astronomer into the role of the astronaut. As much as I love Ian, I am most looking forward to Owen and Dr. Grants interaction in the 3rd JW film. One man who loves but also respects raptors meeting another man who loves dead raptors, respects them, but kinda doesn't have a great opinion of them alive to say it mildly. I would really like to see Grant be able to pet Blue and them build a bit of a bond with the assistance of Owen and also for Dr Grants resonating chamber to make a return. I just hope that they at least put enough love in care as they did with JW when making this film because I wasn't too impressed with Fallen Kingdom despite me liking certain aspects of the film.
My favourite Ian quotes: 'I'm not mad, I'm FURIOUS!!!' 'Back in 5 or 6 pieces ' 'Stories of mutilation and death, weren't you paying attention?' Also, love the 26 second video.
The reason Ian Malcolm is so important is because to me he feels like another parent to us. He tells us the truth we don't listen and then what he said becomes the truth. Which is what happens in Jurassic Park/lost world and fallen kingdom. And us the ones who grew up with JP now respect the character and his point of view. It's funny because as kid I hated the lunch scene in Jurassic Park like many but as an adult I have so much respect for the scene now.
It's funny how as a kid the only content you cared about was the dinosaurs and how you wanted to see more of them, but didn't care for the adult conversation scenes because you didn't understand the context within the topics covered. Yet now as an adult those scenes are the most important ones in all of your favorite movies.
When I was younger I hated Dr. Malcolm as a "killjoy" to the majesty of Jurassic Park, but now that I'm older and have read through the first book He is without a doubt my favorite character,I'm still working on the second one so I'll give you my opinion on that later,Great work with your videos I quite enjoy them.
The more I hear of deleted content in TLW, the more I get sad that great content never made in the final version that would of made the movie better. 😔
To be fair, every single section of the first book (I don't remember if he continued the trend in the second one) started with a Malcolm quote about repeating patterns.
He was so important that Crichton killed him off in the first novel but luckily did it in a way the reader didn't personally witness it. This allowed him to bring Malcolm back in The Lost World with no explanation or story after the unprecedented success of the Jurassic Park movie.
When I think about it, every page where Malcolm is giving a long speech feels like a lesson he points out both to characters in the book and the reader (even the dragoncurve in the chapter pages of the first book are themselves sings to which part of the process/story we are at) So it's not far fetched to view Malcolm as Crichton's voice in the book
The chance for Malcolm to appear in Jurassic World 3 as a source of Crichtonian commentary and wisdom on the increasingly dinosaur-inhabited Earth is too large an opportunity for the filmmakers to pass up.
Oscar Stainton I can see him at the end of JW3 sitting in a lawn chair in his back yard, sipping a drink, eating some snacks. Possibly with his now grown daughter. When a little feathered Compy runs up, hisses, grabs a bite, then runs away. The daughter looks on concerned at what just transpired. But Malcom just gives his signature laugh. Signs. Mutters something about the chaos theory(A Micheal C. Quote from his novels), chuckles, and finally says. “See kid, I told you. Life finds a way.” He then pulls a hat over his eyes and grins knowingly. THE END.
I personally think that Malcolm is a character that should always be right, I'm saying this as someone who's read both books and seen all 5 films now. There should be that one character that will always be the voice of reality, logic and reason. And to butt heads with other opinions. Give us context and give reasons for why someone like bringing Dinosaurs to life is wrong.
I am 20 and watched it for the first time last night. I reeeaaallllly liked him. When he says they shouldn't have been messing with nature he was right
The thing is it's a philosophical standpoint. Being right with logic doesn't mean you're correct in what it is to be alive. Those views can and should shift as you learn to live life on life's terms. Nihilism only leads to the viewpoint that suicide is the only logical choice. I think Malcolm's evolution demonstrates the understanding of what being alive truly is. All of us will die, but not all of us will truly live.
I love how Ian is the smart person out of all the movies that just gives warnings, is a theorist, and just explains everything. Man how could anyone not love Malcolm
"Life is wonderful. Its a gift to be alive, to see the sun & breathe the air. And there isnt really anything else." - Dr Jack Thorne That ending still sticks with me, long after finishing the book. Such a shame that Thorne was never included in the films. I often wonder if he was meant to be a replacement for Malcolm in the event that more books & by extension more films were made so that Goldblum could sit out a few.
"now thats one big pile of shit" "Now im sitting by myself...talking to myself" "Dr. Grant just jumped out of a moving vehicle, who could have predicted that?" *breathing on the camera in the car and cleaning it*
The reason I love Ian Malcolm is because of his monologue in the first film at the lunch table when they’re all discussing the moral implications of what John has done. Beyond just the chaos element of it and understanding that life will find a way and that trying to assert control over nature is both futile and presumptuous, my absolute favorite thing that Malcolm says is in response to John’s assertion that the JP scientists have done things no one else has and Ian replies,“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” I think that this is a very important lesson. As humans, we are lead to believe that we need to keep pushing and reaching for that next boundary, but in reality, if we don’t stop and self-reflect, aren’t we just doomed to create the vehicle of our own demise? I think a perfect example of this is the atomic bomb. It was probably one of the biggest innovations of all time, but does that mean that we really should have that power? I think in JW3 this theme is going to come back in a big way.
Dr. Thorne's speech at the end of the novel is my favorite part of the Lost World. I feel like it might be the most important message from that novel in that is very down to Earth and pragmatic...which sums up Dr. Thorne's character.
David Koepp really had some great roleplays written for the movies. Even though not everything was filmed, it is still a great work of art. The dialogue between Tembo and Malcolm was something else. Thanks for sharing it.

I own both books in the collectors edition and the last two pages of The Lost World were my absolute favorites. I love how you noticed that Malcolm was Hammond’s opposite; I didn’t even think about the choices in colors but noticed the constant back and forth between their ideals and personalities.
"Well, the question is, how can you know anything about an extinct ecosystem? And therefore, how could you ever assume that you can control it? I mean, you have plants in this building that are poisonous. You picked them because they look good. But these are aggressive living things that have no idea what century they're in, and they'll defend themselves, violently if necessary."
Excellent video, congratulations. I don't know how you do, I always think that you will ran out of ideas but you always surprise me with a outstanding video. 👍 Excellent job, keep doing like this.
That clip from the book I remembered per baytum. His entrance somehow struck me pretty well it seems. Honestly this analysis really makes his character far more interesting. Ian always has felt like that person that is almost a force of nature in of himself, having an insight that rings with absolute truth. And yet this makes him far more human and reveals that even though he may be right, he's also not. Life is neither right nor wrong. It just is and does as things fall into place. Chaos in beautiful synchronization. The books are beautiful. Everything about them from drawing me in from the primal pull of dinosaurs, to the thrill of adventure and danger... and to those amazing lessons that can be applied to how you see life- Micheal, Spielberg, and now you, just make it all one of the best things life has to offer.
This is one of your best Klayton!! Thank you for the great information on Dr. Ian Malcom. I haven't read any of the books (why I haven't I'm not even sure!) but you definitely gave a outstanding pitch going over Ian.
I love Ian Malcom. He destroyes the 'dreams' of everyone, he thinks logical, he is funny correct and makes the film more dramatic with his opinions. He makes us think about our desisions and consiquenses of them. I was really surprised in Fallen Kingdom, becoase, unlike Jurassic Park or The Lost World he seemed frightened in the end of the movie. I really liked it. Awsome video! Very enthousiastic and informative as alwsys! Klayton keep up these videos!
Malcolm was my favorite since I was a little kid. I never understood what he was talking about but I thought he was cool and interesting and he dressed like me. Now that I understand what hes been trying to say all these years I like him even more.
Thank you for your contribution to my favorite franchise! I marathon your videos as I play Evolution all the time! But I nearly lost it with the joke in the beginning! Lol
I hope the elements from that deleted scene between Malcolm and Roland get translated onto the big screen in the next JW film, since it could give some development for the chaotician and further flesh out the themes of the overall franchise.
Awesome video! There was a lot of great information for us that isn't very public that I enjoyed. I have both books in one and liked them both as well as the movies too
In case you do take video suggestions. 1) What if the Mosasaur didn’t escape its Jurassic World exhibit? 2) What if Zara (Claire’s assistant from Jurassic World 1) survived the Pterosaur attack in Jurassic World 1?
DisneyFireheart she managed to travel through the digestive tracks of the mosasaurs, and appear on the beach along with the guys on the mini sub, the guy that the mosa ate on the heli ladder and the surfer as a comedic part!
@Official Redmond秘 Eh, she's not a nanny, she was Claire's assistant. She COULD have had another use but they chose not to pursue that. Though I don't think she'd have added a great deal through surviving. She could possibly have survived, since the Mosasaur did have two rows of teeth and might, possibly, have caught her between them to the point she could have clung onto them until the next moment it surfaced for air, then escaped. But that would have been a serious stretch. It probably would have taken hours to come back up, and the air inside its mouth was probably toxic.
I latched onto Ian as my favorite pretty much immediately when I was 11 and saw the films. He's still my favorite in the books, and remains to this day.
Both the books and films, FK Malcom was more like the books and chaos theory talks., At the very least I want him to interact with any dinosaur in Jw3. Maybe Rexy and go oh no it's HER! :D
I'll never get tired of hearing about juicy info about the JP movies. I have the first and second JP novel combined into one leather bound book and its my prized item in my book collection.
Ian Malcolm is a mainstay within the franchise. He knew straight away that something bad was gonna happen when those dinosaurs got loose on the island. It was a butterfly effect waiting to be unveiled
I think the reason Ian Malcom is so popular is because of the performance of Jeff Goldblum and the direction of Stephen Spielberg with help of the character created by Michael Crichton and all of this created the character of Ian Malcom
I always think: Klayton made a new episode already? It must be bad if they come so fast after each other. Than I watch them and I'm always blown away with the depth of your research and knowledge. Hats of my friend! To awnser your end question: I myself have read a piece of the novel when I was younger. I remember that it was very different as the movie(s) but can't remember much. The movies I can dream.
I heard he will run from dinosaurs through out the movie once more and is offical which is good and same for Ellie S. Idk if Grant will show up in movie
@UCBhhVpudS0Pqg1YqAJOANEw 1- ALOT can happen in 30 ESPECIALLY with fast improving tech. 2- ingen want to protect their assets from being produced BY OTHER companies. that doesn't mean they don't have files on how to operate on them how do you think they hire new animals trainers? in fact since they want to protect their assets, they'd teach as many people as POSSIBLE!!! 3- clearly he's never ACTUALLY talked to people in zia's situation. THERE'S ALWAYS a first time! not to mention that removing a bullet is NOT that difficult if you know the proper producdure. besides ellie and sarah had never seen a LIVE dinosaur PERIOD!!! nor were they vets yet they did just fine. BONUS: insulting is putting it mildly. now what would YOU say about those points?
@UCBhhVpudS0Pqg1YqAJOANEw 1- indeed 2- I think you know as well as I that's not quite true making a cast for a broken leg is VERY tricky dinosaurs have hollow bones. especially in sarah's case where she had to give the animal morphine but had to be VERY careful not to give him too much. anyrthing you can say to back me up?
Taliesin Coleman well not all bones are the same some bones are hollow while some aren’t in the case of a dinosaur it depends on what species it is in order to make a proper cast for it for instance a Tyrannosaur may need a differentcast then a velociraptor because while a velociraptors bones are hollow a Tyrannosaurus aren’t. Do you agree with my statement?
Malcolm is right- he's proven right in each film one way or another. I've read the books but to be honest don't recall the final passages you refer to. I do find it strange that even though he bookends Fallen Kingdom, we're basically rooting for characters who disagree with him, and entirely succeed in their efforts to apparently disastrous result. Chris Stuckmann mentions that in his review- that Malcolm is fundamentally right and the audience is supposed to side with him but Fallen Kingdom expects us to do the opposite, he argues without giving us a good enough reason to do so.
Now I see why he's my fave character. It used to be Alan since I was a kid, but now that im studying biotechnology in university, I understand and embrace what he states throughout the books and movies. Also, the main reason i major biotechnology is my goal of bringing dinosaurs to life. Now im questioning that and focusing more on virology, molecular biology and stuff, but im thankful for Crichton's novels and Spielberg's movies. Without them i would not be who i am today.
Love the books the first had great suspense and I love the journey in the first, the second what I enjoy the most is the insight into complex theories and the corporate world that the author gives. Great series.

Its because he's right
Now before I go lol
This is one of your best Klayton!! Thank you for the great information on Dr. Ian Malcom. I haven't read any of the books (why I haven't I'm not even sure!) but you definitely gave a outstanding pitch going over Ian.
Ian Malcolm is without a doubt one of if not the best character in the franchise.
Great work on these videos man. You’ve got the greatest narration voice. I can’t help binge watching these videos.
In Fallen Kingdom Malcolm was more like "not this crap again..."
@@blacknsilver_ In the biggining of the film. In the end he seems more worried now that genetic power has now been unleashed.
one of my favorite lines from the 1997 sequel is when he bends down to Ludlow's ear and says "Now you're John Hammond."
Love the intro. Good one lofl.
Malcolm was my favorite since I was a little kid. I never understood what he was talking about but I thought he was cool and interesting and he dressed like me. Now that I understand what hes been trying to say all these years I like him even more.
I laughed so hard at the beginning
Almost got me at the intro! Very good video and keep it up!
Hah love the beginning of the episode " it's because he's right!!" Hahahaha.
Ian Malcolm is one of my favorite characters in history. I really love him, because of his “cold” point of view and how he expresses himself🤩
"I hate being right all of the time." -The good Dr.
Thank you for your contribution to my favorite franchise! I marathon your videos as I play Evolution all the time! But I nearly lost it with the joke in the beginning! Lol
Omg you just turned your outro Into a meme! XD
memes uh, find a way...
Your channel is what inspired me to get the books. I finished the first one and I just started the second one.
This is the content I like to see
One of the best vids you made. Period. Just perfect :).
The Mosasaur has an extra set of teeth. And I meant like what if she managed to avoid getting picked up by the Pterasaurs that escaped their exhibit.
Awesome video dude as always. Keep it up. Thanks for sharing that info of JP2.
Why he's so important;
1: Because he's Jeff Goldblum
2: Because Jeff Goldblum is always right.
I've been reading the books. They are completely different from the movie.
Ian Malcolm is a mainstay within the franchise. He knew straight away that something bad was gonna happen when those dinosaurs got loose on the island. It was a butterfly effect waiting to be unveiled
Hammond and Malcolm are the angel and devil sitting on your shoulders
I think the reason Ian Malcom is so popular is because of the performance of Jeff Goldblum and the direction of Stephen Spielberg with help of the character created by Michael Crichton and all of this created the character of Ian Malcom
He and Muldoon were my favorite
I love Jurassic park and this channel to post these videos great job
"I bring the scientists, you bring the rock star!"
This channel is like the Star Wars Theory channel and I love this.
Fantastic video. If this video got any deeper we would all fall into..... Eh....... a Trex cage. Love this content
My god it's great. Maybe your best video
0:00 to 0:26
wow, that was the SHORTEST klayton episode ever.
Taliesin Coleman
True. But to be honest, he could have ended it there, and it would still be as high-quality as the rest of the video
@UCBhhVpudS0Pqg1YqAJOANEw 1- ALOT can happen in 30 ESPECIALLY with fast improving tech.
2- ingen want to protect their assets from being produced BY OTHER companies.
that doesn't mean they don't have files on how to operate on them
how do you think they hire new animals trainers?
in fact since they want to protect their assets, they'd teach as many people as POSSIBLE!!!
3- clearly he's never ACTUALLY talked to people in zia's situation.
THERE'S ALWAYS a first time!
not to mention that removing a bullet is NOT that difficult if you know the proper producdure.
besides ellie and sarah had never seen a LIVE dinosaur PERIOD!!!
nor were they vets
yet they did just fine.
BONUS: insulting is putting it mildly.
now what would YOU say about those points?
@UCBhhVpudS0Pqg1YqAJOANEw 1- indeed
2- I think you know as well as I that's not quite true making a cast for a broken leg is VERY tricky
dinosaurs have hollow bones.
especially in sarah's case where she had to give the animal morphine but had to be VERY careful not to give him too much.
anyrthing you can say to back me up?
Taliesin Coleman well not all bones are the same some bones are hollow while some aren’t in the case of a dinosaur it depends on what species it is in order to make a proper cast for it for instance a Tyrannosaur may need a differentcast then a velociraptor because while a velociraptors bones are hollow a Tyrannosaurus aren’t.
Do you agree with my statement?
@@Moderate_Pseudo_Historian actually MOST dinosaur had hollow bones (it allowed them too be MUCH lighter than they appear.)
Ian has always been my favorite.
Thank you for making me cry in a happy side
Malcom's my favorite character!
That joke at the beginning was great lol
I hope we get to see Malcolm ( and perhaps Grant / Saddler ) react if they're introduced with Blue as well.
I'm wondering what Malcolm might think about Maisie
Love the books the first had great suspense and I love the journey in the first, the second what I enjoy the most is the insight into complex theories and the corporate world that the author gives. Great series.
