AMAZING as always! 👍🏻👍🏻 Personally, as far as supplemental materials to support the main film canon go, I consider "Jurassic Park: The Game" to be *more* canon with the films than say, the Topps comics. It definitely tries its best, mainly by tying up the first films' loose end of Nedry's Barbasol can of embryos.
Finally someone that sees there is a difference between book and movie cannon. I hate it when people on UA-cam make videos and pull from both the books and movies to make a video that is supposed to be cannon. It's really nice to know someone knows the difference between the two cannons.
It's so good to hear a proper argument about different universes in relation to ours. I hate it when people argue that raptors don't have feathers etc. Well it's a different universe.
This was an awesome video! As a Dragon Ball fan, canon and continuity is a jumbled mess, but like Jurassic Park, you can generally boil it down to two: the original Toriyama manga + Jaco and DB-, the 80s and 90s anime trio which base themselves off the manga (but aren't canon to it due to a LOT of additions and changes), and the "modern" canon of Dragon Ball, Kai and Super. Anything else is generally considered side stuff that's fun but not applicable to anything else (Android 21 isn't canon right now, much as I love her character). Anyway, I see Jurassic Park as the same: the two novels are obviously the basis for the movies, but their stories cannot be applicable to the movies due to how incredibly different the two storylines are.
GT IS CANON TO Z, SUPER IS CANON TO KAI GET OVER IT 1) The manga is secondary canon? Lol, no. The Manga first came out in 1984 while the anime didn’t come out until 1986. 2) the DB>Z>GT isn’t the main anime continuity anymore because DBZ had a whole load of filler added to it that wasn’t part of Toriyama’s original story and GT was made purely by Toei. The current main anime continuity is DB>Kai>Super, because Kai cut out most of DBZ’s filler and Toriyama himself directing worked with Toei on the DBS anime.
sorry but it is. more people watch dbz then read it. i'll take goku vs majin vegeta>>>the shit manga version of the fight that was fucking skipped ove.r never understand why people over hype the manga. most haven't even read it that act so hostile to the anime and circle jerk toriyamas work
GT IS CANON TO Z, SUPER IS CANON TO KAI GET OVER IT Popularity is irrelevant, the manga came out first and therefore it’s continuity is the primary canon.
by that logic the JP films are secondary canon, and the MCU is like 200th teir c anon since marvel had countless canons before MCu's. the main is the one most people know it for. what's next? GT isn't canon? Or only Disney 's shit versio nof sw is cano n? come on man ,you should know better.
Your passion and dedication to authentic information regarding the JP franchise is inspiring to say the least! Well done! As for the canon question, you nailed it on the head when you said that the books and the films are different continuities. The movies will have a special place in my heart - they were a part of the household lol. I'm listening to the audiobook of the first novel right now. So far it seems like it has more depth than any of the films, but I guess that sort of world-building is needed when you're introducing the franchise.
Since the rights go back to the Crichton estate after JW 3 (the 6th in total) and they can make a new contract if they wish, they could end up making a "multiverse" For example, the Halloween film series. After the same number of films they made a new timeline, only paying attention to the first two. And now they've done it again. After the 6th Jurassic film, we could very well have remakes or direct sequels to the original film, like the Halloween film series.
Thanks for this video! I think we really need it. Until Jurassic World i didn't knew just how big this franchise is. I only knew about the books, films, some comics and some games, but there is so much around this franchise it's pretty hard to see through all of that. Oh and thanks for the information that predator was planed to be a sequel to rocky....i really want to see sylvester stallone punching a bunch of predators now, lol.
well, i might say the t.rex theory was partially the case because ingen made their rexes like that. after all, they were working with what they knew at the time.
What is Canon? The Spielberg Films. Best collection of talent telling the story. Perfect team in 93. The dream team. John Williams, Stan Winston and etc.
Greetings from 2022! Where "LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar" exists and introduces a nice storyline. Where Camp Cretaceous is almost getting its fifth season... and every season is getting crazier. Oh and where there's 2 Jurassic World Evolution games that have an alternate take on the canon storyline. :)
It's not that difficult! You got the manga as the core canon, you got the 80s/90s anime trio as the second, and you have the modern DB>Kai>Super as the third canon line. Anything else is non-canon funtimes.
@Johan Personally I disagree. If you watch GT, you're stepping back into the early 90s canon because GT followed off directly from Z. Kai is the "modern" canon to me because of how Super uses it for its flashbacks to the classical stuff.
THANK YOU so much for making your videos! It's so interesting and inspiring listening you. Thanks for taking all the time and making your videos, I really enjoy them! :)
Speaking of canon. I kinda wanna see a way for JPOG and JWE to both be in the same universe. And maybe someone going as far as trying to make the 2 games reasonably canon to the movies
This definitely cleared things up for me! Great vid. My personal favorite universe is the movie universe because that is what is going to be continued as time goes on.
I had not considered that about The Lost World website. Very interesting. I was so busy collecting the information that I hadn't even analyzed it to see the clear errors you brought up. This was a good listen. The tone of your voice made it sound as if you were really putting your foot down on some of the nonsense some people say regarding the canon, without being a dick about it. I'd appreciate more videos like this for sure.
I feel like Tresspasser would be a smart move for the movie series give us a Prequel get back to the roots . Edit: could the millions used for "cleaning up" the island have been a money laundering scheme
I love Jurassic Park Rampage. I forgot about it until today. Gonna go dust off my 20th anniversary edition digital Genesis console, with my OG cartridge and play through it this weekend.
If your channel gets badly affected by COPPA I'd be (and I'm gonna go on a limb and assume many more people than just myself) would be properly sad. Fantastic content.
So me and my bud were watching this vid, when you mentioned the illegal species my buddy turned to me gave me a sarcastic hipster sigh and said "there actually undocumented species" in a very hipster voice I've never laughed so hard in my life
Man, if Jurassic World 3 is the last movie I hope there will be a series about what happened on Site B and the InGen clean-up on Isla Nublar. And great video as always Klayton the amount of things I wish I knew as a kid that you've brought up now when im older has just re-ignited my Jurassic Park addiction.
5:15 Rampage Edition was such a great Game. Dr. Grant waa straight up Gangsta!! Tresspasser was pretty fun front what I remember, also the RTS was interesting... especially with the Alien Cheat
That speech about jp-jw cannon is awesome and how dinos in our world may be feathered and small (raptors) in their reality may be jp sized and look. It’s awesome and thanks for saying that so that people who care so much that won’t SHUT UP!
Bro, I just want to say all bullshit aside... I genuinely appreciate everything you do when it comes to Jurassic Park trivia Etc. Honestly man, I moved to LA and work in film because of Jurassic Park. I'm pretty sure you and I are around the same age I was born in 84, I went to the movie when I was in o 9 years old I remember coming home from it being in the car it was drizzling it was a spring night it was literally the best thing in my life I saw it 11 times in theater as a nine-year-old on my birthday in November I saw with 11 of my best friend's! I'll never forget that year my life. I remember when it came out on VHS and my mom got it for me. if you recall, it came out two full years later bro! Two years it took that thing that came on VHS! It was in theaters for almost an entire year! Anyway I got it in my mom won't let me watch it till family night on Fridays where we get pizza and watching the living room sitting on a sleeping bag as a family it was great! I wore down that VHS man I must have literally watched it three thousand times I memorize that I know every single thing that's ever happened to that movie! it was hysterical! Then when the very first teacher came out during the Superbowl 1997 my brain exploded! I absolutely adore that movie just the same. At this point I was about three years in the making films myself. So I cared about making movies making movies making movies! I'll never forget when Jurassic Park 3 came out I was in high school, and my best friend got it as a bit torrent and despite the fact that I was super super anxious and want to see in theaters, I could not resist and I saw it on his computer in a crappy version. Frankly, I thought literally that it was a prank and that it was not the real movie. Cuz it looks so terrible. I saw it in theaters and unbenounced to me, I was so super super upset it wasn't fact the real film this said, there were elements of it I did enjoy whatever but it obviously wasn't anything close to the first two. Now the reason for this message! LOL. Clayton, my brother... My brother in Jurassic LOL. I genuinely appreciate everything you do. You literally dig deeper than anyone I've ever met when it comes to the Jurassic Park franchise. I didn't realize that it was that amazingly detailed. Now, in lieu of the praise I want to say not to be negative, but I feel as though you are literally just hold onto your childhood when it comes to the last two movies. Like The nostalgic Factor. We can sit here and talk about CGI and the fact that the first movies were obviously meant to look like real life shot on film in real light not using the cheap tricks like making it all with color grades of greens and oranges and reds and blues excetera but we don't have to do that we're going to talk about story, when I talk about all the fact that it wasn't on the level of the actor meeting point of view shots so you're actually there realistic Feats of succession from the actor's meaning things that actually would happen to people not the Superhuman crap that happens in the new ones all that stuff aside the movies or just fucking terrible bro I mean the other some nostalgic factors and their exciting to see the first one in the theaters but the second was fucking awful it was absolutely terrible it felt like I was watching a crappy horror movie honestly. I can't understand how you can deviate from that linear way of thought judging by how obviously intelligent, and obviously into these movies you are. I feel like the Nostalgia is literally draping over your whole lines of thought you just don't let it go. Because those movies are freaking terrible the first one me could have had some some relatively okay ideas in it and Lou the fact that the two brothers and the lack of character development or believability in the characters and their emotions jumping off of a cliff after dinosaur tries to bite them and they're talking about how he was excited he jumped despite the fact that is disheveled hair was completely different and all that crap dude the first movie Lex was literally terrified it was unbelievable this movie was just a bunch of crappy actors Generation X cynical actors in a cynical crappy movie like it was terrible it was freaking terrible none of the storyline even made any sense why did you check the paddock for his chip to begin with! Anyway I'm rambling I just was watching your latest thing and I'll always watch your videos I love them I think you're an awesome dude and I appreciate everything you do but I feel like you have to be more truthful with yourself and just say it for what it is my brother the last two movies freaking suckEd! LOL. Anyway have a great holiday my friend thank you for all you do keep doing it! Cheers, Ethan.
I personally prefer the book canon over anything for a few reasons. In the books, it is Hammond that dies on the island instead of Muldoon. The detail that they go into for the raptors and their breeding/the caves really helps explain what was going on in Jurassic Park well before Grant and the team show up.
There is a timeline prop used in JW that is seen in the background that shows John Hammond's name is John Parker Hammond. Because that was seen first before Eli Mills used Alfred, that would make Hammond's full name John Parker Alfred Hammond.
At least someone on this site understands that some pieces of media are only canon to themselves (or that there's such a thing as different canons for a franchise).
Hey Clayton some people are saying that just because Isla Sorna’s buildings are powered by geothermal energy doesn’t mean that there’s a volcano on the surface of the island and they could just be getting it from lava flows under the island What do you think of this argument? I’ve also never heard jack Ewins confirm that there is a volcano on the surface of the island I hope he confirms this.
Xectarr but he didn’t bother to think that they could have gotten it from under ground lava flows? Unless it is confirmed to have a volcano on the surface of the island I still think Isla Sorna could be a place to put the dinosaurs.
@@Competitive_Bid_ to form a volcano yes but multiple spots on the island could end up spewing fountains of lava for extended periods of time witch could have a massive impact on the entire island
I liked your detailing in the intro.. The T.rex from JP1 or Rexy has same scars as it's movie counterpart. Great Job man, Big fan of your Work. P.S: i also prefer the Bull Tyrannosaurus from The Lost World over all other Tyrannosaurus because it literally blows some shit when it reaches San Diego.
Awesome video, Klayton! So if Telltale's JP the Game is only partially canon, do you think that includes the marine facility and the tylosaurus? I always thought the whole thing was kind of crazy but I'd like to know what you think.
What is canon? Anything that gives fans goosebumps seeing or experiencing favorite characters & dinosaurs. What is not canon? Any large carnivor stealing Rexies thunder unless veteran dinos team up against it.
I've wondered what was cannon in the jp franchise because there's so much out there. The books the movies the comic books. The video games ect. I wonder how it would all connect and fit together as a whole. Especially since the movies divert from the books and a lot was changed.
Tbf I think the paleontologist in the List World just didn’t pronounce the “pro” at the start of Procompsognathus or was mistaken. Either way, it’s Compsognathus in the movie canon
Technically speaking, not all of the original Jurassic Park novel can be considered canon to the book universe. Since Ian Malcolm definitively died in the first novel, Crichton had to retcon his survival using some wordplay in The Lost World. Thus, the paragraph about Malcolm's death in JP is not canon. Anyway, great video as always.
I like all the canons they all kind of bring one thing together in different ways or the exact same way but it was really confusing for me a lot but now I understand thanks for the video now I know what canons were used in the movies, books, games, and websites.
@@EryxUK Yeah so apparently the dpg catch phrase of save the dinos wasn't created by universal. They bought it from a real organization that aims to protect endangered animals for 15,000 but told them not to market that catch phrase or else people will mistake the two brands. And since universal did the protection group is trying to sue Steven Spielberg and Universal for millions. I'm not sure why they would try going after Steven though since he's not even a direct producer or anything.
1) In the books, Grant doesn't discover that tyrannosaurs can't see things that aren't moving until he gets to the island; 2) Grant subsequently discovers that it's not just the rexes; ALL dinosaurs that incorporate amphibian DNA, like maiasaurs, have this issue; 3) This is actually rebutted in the The Lost World, Levine stating that the rexes could see people who are standing still just fine, they just weren't hungry, having just eaten.
Which canon do I prefer? A multi-dimensional omni-timeline-hybrid encorporating all versions, accomodating incongruent elements both across and within media versions. It's complicated but awesome
Probably already been mentioned but on your point about the T-Rex's movement-based vision: It's not just a departure from real-world paleontology but also book canon where it's just an incorrect theory based on the usage of frog DNA. This is highlighted in the Lost World scene where our protagonists spot the stand-off between the T-Rexes and Dodgson's team over the surveillance footage: One of the kids asks why the people are standing still to which Malcolm responds that they're misinformed about how T-Rex vision works.
The movies and website are concrete canon, Trespasser and JP:TG both have events that are canon but not how we see them. Even the DPG website sometimes recognizes this (7 Rex’s bred, Herrerasaurus being killed on Nublar, etc)

Anyway, I see Jurassic Park as the same: the two novels are obviously the basis for the movies, but their stories cannot be applicable to the movies due to how incredibly different the two storylines are.
dragonball has three canons. db/dbz/gt aniem adaptiosn are the main canon, kai and super are the new canon and the manga is secondary canon.
GT IS CANON TO Z, SUPER IS CANON TO KAI GET OVER IT
1) The manga is secondary canon? Lol, no. The Manga first came out in 1984 while the anime didn’t come out until 1986.
2) the DB>Z>GT isn’t the main anime continuity anymore because DBZ had a whole load of filler added to it that wasn’t part of Toriyama’s original story and GT was made purely by Toei. The current main anime continuity is DB>Kai>Super, because Kai cut out most of DBZ’s filler and Toriyama himself directing worked with Toei on the DBS anime.
sorry but it is. more people watch dbz then read it. i'll take goku vs majin vegeta>>>the shit manga version of the fight that was fucking skipped ove.r never understand why people over hype the manga. most haven't even read it that act so hostile to the anime and circle jerk toriyamas work
GT IS CANON TO Z, SUPER IS CANON TO KAI GET OVER IT
Popularity is irrelevant, the manga came out first and therefore it’s continuity is the primary canon.
by that logic the JP films are secondary canon, and the MCU is like 200th teir c anon since marvel had countless canons before MCu's. the main is the one most people know it for. what's next? GT isn't canon? Or only Disney 's shit versio nof sw is cano n? come on man ,you should know better.
Your passion and dedication to authentic information regarding the JP franchise is inspiring to say the least! Well done!
As for the canon question, you nailed it on the head when you said that the books and the films are different continuities. The movies will have a special place in my heart - they were a part of the household lol. I'm listening to the audiobook of the first novel right now. So far it seems like it has more depth than any of the films, but I guess that sort of world-building is needed when you're introducing the franchise.
Since the rights go back to the Crichton estate after JW 3 (the 6th in total) and they can make a new contract if they wish, they could end up making a "multiverse"
For example, the Halloween film series. After the same number of films they made a new timeline, only paying attention to the first two.
And now they've done it again.
After the 6th Jurassic film, we could very well have remakes or direct sequels to the original film, like the Halloween film series.
Or adapt the book to a movie!
It would be cool if Universal would green light a graphic novel of what happened in the Telltale game and work it into canon.
You would think Klayton would run out of ideas and content for JP. But NOPE! Dude runs his channel awesomely. Well done bro, well done.
Hey who wrote this comment? I can't see who wrote it
ITS JOHN CENA!!!!!?...
Fake
Haha John Cena lost to Finn Balor.
Your effort and detail digging is marvelous! I love it!
Great video! Thought it was really good and I really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work!
well, i might say the t.rex theory was partially the case because ingen made their rexes like that.
after all, they were working with what they knew at the time.
Hey this video was awesome I love the increase in videos lately!
Great video sir. Keep them coming dude.
At least the fandom isn’t as as bad as dragon ball z/gt/super when it comes to cannon
Ugh don't remind me.
@@KBABZ Stop. Unspoken rule
KBABZ no but the fandom makes it cannon into a bigger thing than it has to be
THANK YOU so much for making your videos! It's so interesting and inspiring listening you. Thanks for taking all the time and making your videos, I really enjoy them! :)
klayton your the best Jurassic Park channel on youtube thank you so much I love you bro P. S you’re biggest fan 🙂🙂😊
The amount of time you spend on your videos are amazing.
Well put together and well explained. Good job!
I am still alive just not commenting here so much. Loved the video
So me and my bud were watching this vid, when you mentioned the illegal species my buddy turned to me gave me a sarcastic hipster sigh and said "there actually undocumented species" in a very hipster voice
I've never laughed so hard in my life
Man, if Jurassic World 3 is the last movie I hope there will be a series about what happened on Site B and the InGen clean-up on Isla Nublar. And great video as always Klayton the amount of things I wish I knew as a kid that you've brought up now when im older has just re-ignited my Jurassic Park addiction.
I freaking love the thumbnail!
I think I watched almost 50 of your videos in the past 2 days keep up the great work bro
That blue at the beggining is on point
5:15
Rampage Edition was such a great Game.
Dr. Grant waa straight up Gangsta!!
Tresspasser was pretty fun front what I remember, also the RTS was interesting... especially with the Alien Cheat
Some intern was given the job to put that Sorna dinosaur list together and thank god they put their heart into it
Love your use of jurassic park video game music in your videos.
Also the criticism of "Why can't they put the Dinosaurs on Isla Sorna ?" The Canon answers that question in a heartbeat.
If you ever get a chance to take a look at The Evolution of Claire novel, I'd like to hear your thoughts on where it fits in JP/JW canon.
This is good video. I was confused until now.
Seems like you did a perfect job to me! I would love Troodon to be Canon again!
I fucking love this video. This makes so much sense and I'm glad you cleared up a lot of stuff.
loving the new intro, klayton!!
Great video, as always :) Deleted scenens = Not canon. Ergo Hammond's middle name is Alfred.
There is a timeline prop used in JW that is seen in the background that shows John Hammond's name is John Parker Hammond. Because that was seen first before Eli Mills used Alfred, that would make Hammond's full name John Parker Alfred Hammond.
@@1Morey that’s my headcanon on the matter, too.
At least someone on this site understands that some pieces of media are only canon to themselves (or that there's such a thing as different canons for a franchise).
Because of a comment you made it instantly made me think about how similar fallen kingdom is to JP telltale game
The lava underneath the ground could burst out and begin to create a new volcano so it's still a risk
Jacob Arnold ... Klayton supports the Isla Sorna is volcanic statement, or rather fact.
B&B inc. but that would take thousands of years for a new volcano to form on the island.
I love all Jurassic Park saga movies, we love this videos
I liked your detailing in the intro.. The T.rex from JP1 or Rexy has same scars as it's movie counterpart. Great Job man, Big fan of your Work.
P.S: i also prefer the Bull Tyrannosaurus from The Lost World over all other Tyrannosaurus because it literally blows some shit when it reaches San Diego.
Awesome video, Klayton!
So if Telltale's JP the Game is only partially canon, do you think that includes the marine facility and the tylosaurus? I always thought the whole thing was kind of crazy but I'd like to know what you think.
A very important video. Thanks Klayton
Loving the longer videos buddy!!! Keep up the great work love all your work!
Totally mind blowing. To me the books are the original Canon by themselves, the movies continue the Canon. That's what keeps it all in place for me.
I love when you make your JP videos longer dude, also I wanna support channel or cooperate
With all of the Extended-Canon that has been released, I feel that Klayton should make an updated version of this video.
That was an epic intro! Please use similar intros with your JP vids more often!
Best opening ever lol
Tbf I think the paleontologist in the List World just didn’t pronounce the “pro” at the start of Procompsognathus or was mistaken. Either way, it’s Compsognathus in the movie canon
Technically speaking, not all of the original Jurassic Park novel can be considered canon to the book universe. Since Ian Malcolm definitively died in the first novel, Crichton had to retcon his survival using some wordplay in The Lost World. Thus, the paragraph about Malcolm's death in JP is not canon.
Anyway, great video as always.
I like all the canons they all kind of bring one thing together in different ways or the exact same way but it was really confusing for me a lot but now I understand thanks for the video now I know what canons were used in the movies, books, games, and websites.
a video about your oppinion on richard levine soon?
btw great vids, thank you
I like this "hard canon/soft canon" approach to side material much more than what star wars did
My opinion:
• #1 - Books
• #2 - Movies (Minus JP3)
• #3 - Jurassic Park Operation Genesis
• #4 - Jurassic World Evolution
• #5 - Jurassic Park Arcade Games
I think JPTG could be cannnon... kind of. (I mainly just love the Troodons XD)
Out of curiosity are you going to talk about the lawsuit going on with the 2nd Jurassic World flim?
There's a lawsuit?
@@EryxUK Yeah so apparently the dpg catch phrase of save the dinos wasn't created by universal. They bought it from a real organization that aims to protect endangered animals for 15,000 but told them not to market that catch phrase or else people will mistake the two brands. And since universal did the protection group is trying to sue Steven Spielberg and Universal for millions. I'm not sure why they would try going after Steven though since he's not even a direct producer or anything.
@@wafflzbacon407 interesting. Thanks for the info.
@@EryxUK Yeah no problem I just figured as a Jurassic Park channel he may want to cover this sort of thing
@@wafflzbacon407 weird quote they made considering Dinosaurs are extinct, I get it but still
About the compy, in the french version, Burke actualy say it's a procompsognathus triassicus. Kinda funny.
I would want to see an image of the Harding family before the divorce, that would be extremely satisfying and allows it to be canon.
