I think it's unfair to say the punch was unnecessary when vivi hit him first, it's also keeping the fact that luffy only sees people, not their title, their past or gender, he will punch someone if he feels they're being stupid, he did with coby, zoro, wapol, helmeppo, and will still do it with friends and foes going forward. To me it's refreshing to see a protagonist that sticks to his own character without changing them for what's morally correct for the public

There are lots of people who cant see and understand the truth.
If Luffy feels the need to punch you, he will. He doesn't care if u a woman or a child. He doesn't do it out of hate, but does it when he thinks you need to get your shit together. Other MC's would have comforted Vivi with words of positivity like Gentlemen, but Luffy says it to her like it is. He lays down the facts and brought Vivi to reality. He's as real as they get. Also, don't underestimate Vivi. She doesn't need Pitty after a punch lol. She's a strong Woman and Luffy knows that 💪
Plus, it's argument between two people who are strong leaders in their own right.

What i like about him in comparison to other shounen protagonists. Talk no jutsu is nice but not realistic. The way Luffy understands people and what he chooses to do is very realistic.
I like that Luffy punched Vivi. It reminds us we aren't watching a hero or a saint. We are watching a show about pirates
Sadly a lot of new viewers did not understand the punch. Take a look at Vivi going all out punching the shit out of Luffy (idk if bleeding here were meant to show the level of intensity taken by Vivi) but Vivi did not bleed when Luffy gave her a face punch back. Imagine diplomatic saying the war can end without deaths yet proceed to do the opposite releasing physical violence on someone who disagrees with you. The way I see it, Luffy is giving her own treatment back
I find it funny how everybody have a problem with Luffy punching Vivi ONCE after she slap him so hard that made him spin 3 times in the air, and then she punches the shit out of him to the point that he, a RUBER MAN, starts to bleed. But yeah, poor Vivi...
You don't have to misconstrue the situation to justify it. The fact of the matter is Vivi was in a heartfelt position and did it out of emotion so YES poor Vivi, but also yeah people don't understand Luffy's character and why he'd punch her.

Its not just cause she's a woman that its a surprise that luffy hit her, it comes with various assumptions about luffy as a mc from the viewers perspective, cause most mcs wont do that, its also the ally/helper dynamic, vivi sees luffy as a helper and gets emotional and hits him, the viewers think as the helper luffy shouldnt hit her cause its out of the ordinary, they dont realize luffy's emotional intelligence.

All of this happens subconsciously in the brain and viewers just land on the conclusion that luffy shouldnt have hit her, they dont think things through or understand luffy

You're wrong. They are saying "Oh come my way" in the anime. It is a transliteration. The anime censored okama up until film 8 and Impel Down. Another example of this is when they change Okama Kenpo into Ballet Kenpo.
They should keep okama as okama but I guess non anime watches would understand the context, some subs state it as new transvestite, not used to this translation aha

The show clearly changes the way they say "Oh come my way" in alabasta or changing it to swan or ballet compared to how they just say "Okama" straight up later on.

@@liyenong2017While Sanji won’t get physical, I like those moments where even he will recognise if a woman is wrong and call it out, even if it’s Nami. Like in this, he saw Luffy and Vivi needed that conversation and got Nami to not interrupt.
I can’t wait to see how they do the punch in the live action, it has to be done gracefully.
Basically, luffy punching vivi is actually necessary in order for her to really bring out the emotions she held inside. It's not something you can force out just by talking. So yeah, that's a good punch.

Probably should not skip episodes, Oda is the type of storyteller that weaves bits together no matter how trivial they seem. He connects story threads in later episodes that began in the beginning of the story. Oda is an incredible storyteller which is why One piece is so great.

Don't worry so much about the length. Every arc seems to get better and better as you go forward.
That 1000 episode seems so far away now but you'll get there before you know it and then you'll be waiting for the episodes weekly like the rest of us.
I can tell you one thing about the length though; not a single fan complains about it other than how difficult it makes it to get others into it.
Luffy's got this too, he punched Vivi because he not only sees her like any other person (like Alvida) but also because he knows her well enough to know that that's what he needs to do for her to get to where she needs to mentally. She couldn't keep going on holding everything in and carrying the burden herself; that was wrecking her. It's also a call back to the same way she would argue with Kohza.

Mr 2 design was actually inspired by Jim Carrey's Dumb and Dumber character.
After the phone call Crocodile told Miss All Sunday to send Mr 2 to kill Mr 3, so no he didn't know it wasn't Mr 3 on the phone. A bit weird, but they probably never interacted directly since Miss All Sunday usually handled their jobs and he must have thought Mr 3 was just acting dumb.
Do you guys know that the seven warlords weren't initially in the story, it was supposed to be one "entity/group" above these guys in term of power(not gonna say it cause they haven't revealed yet)
Oda made the warlord midway and it stretched till 1k+ chapter

You didn't get it, Luffy's point was exactly not to go to Katorea where the rebels are but instead go exactly where Crocodile is to beat him up, since he was the main cause of the war. For Luffy it was pointless to go try stop the rebellion and hence stop the war cuz it was going to happen anyway because of Crocodile's plan and it was very naive of Vivi to think that she could prevent anyone from dying from an inevitable war. And what do you mean about Luffy hitting Vivi?! Even as a kid watching this, I always thought it made sense considering Vivi hit Luffy first as well.
Edit: And that’s the beautiful thing about the One Piece world, none of the women will complain when up against a different gender. It’s not “unfair”.
