Things dont go as planned. I slide off the road and need rescue! Stuck in the ditch in a snow storm.
I started my 2024 Arctic tour on January 7th. As I am heading towards the Arctic, I help an old man recovering his vehicle from a Roadway departure snow crash! Then I end up with my own Roadway departure that I can not get out of.
I am gonna spend my entire winter on this adventure and this video is from the first 4 days in extreme winter beauty. Living my best life in the van in winter. Also flying my DJI mini 4 pro drone a lot in this video.

As a city dweller, we hate snow, ice and all things winter. Owning a home, one, shovels and snow blows until you can't stand the cold any longer. Ice builds up on the house, downspouts and driveway, just making the trip out of the neighborhood can be dangerous. Then we watch your videos. How beautiful and serene the snow looks and is. Then you went off the road , We are so glad that you are ok. We enjoy the drone videos and pictures, showing us things we would not normally get to see. Thank you

the sky looks like liquid fire !!!!! glad u was there to help the other van folk/s !!! good thing the big trucks came to help..... good souls !!!!!!!!! the poor guy really had no choice if he didnt want to hit the gate !!😮. bummer how once u got off the asphalt that was the end of it !!!😢. Matts off road 😅😂 that b the farthest he ever went 4 a job 😂😂!!!!. u kill me !!!! ive often wondered if u should get a small winch... portable ... 4 such a thing cuz u wasnt dug in,,, just off the worn track. withe a strap tothe poles across the road it would have been easy to get ur self back on. i'm sooo glad there was NO suspension damage or any other type !!!!!!!! that was a quick job. to be honesti often have worrieda little in the drive scenes bcuz i know soo well how fast things can go wrong on those kind of roads !!!

Thank you Tracy, there is always something more one can bring to get out of situations, but I think my van is filled up now. The out of pocket to get towed is only 45$ through the insurance company, with no penalties, so it is really good to have a proper tow truck come along and help you out. Matt should come though, the furthest he has been is around Alberquerque, and that is only a 10 hour drive for him. This would have taken him a week each way at least😝

I’m so glad you are back on the road. Being in the drivers seat with you sometimes scares me cause it seems like you are flying so I worry about you slipping off the road. But you are okay and that is what counts.
Thank you I generally drive quite slow, it might look faster on camera, and then sometimes I double the speed of the driving footage.

I was gutted for you after your good deed of helping someone out of their own snow accident to see you stuck in a ditch and wondering if anyone would stop to offer help. Glad there was lots of people stopping to check. Glad you got towed out without damage to your van.

FWD is perfectly fine, too many people think that a 4wd will keep you safe, but it is the tires that matter
Great vid Jarl. A heavy duty tow strap is a must. Catch a plow truck or someone with traction. Yeah, keep big yellow's number handy. Beautiful country. You've been o the top of most of those places and camped there as well. Get a little older that's still fun but in small doses. Take care
Yes, i have been on many of those mountains, luckily we have really good tow services via our car insurance here, only an out of pocket of 45$ and no penalties for roadside assistance and glass damage.

Getting Matt’s off road recovery would cost a lot of money to get them there.
Maybe you should think about getting a farm jack and other recovery items.

Yes, anything below 1000$ is considered cheap here, but the out of pocket is pretty good deal here for roadside assistance.

As usual stunning photography. The sunrises/sunsets are truly amazing. I have to ask. Do you now lean to one side when you walk because of that slide off the road? LOL. Seriously I am so glad you and your van were not hurt. There are a couple of sayings that my friends use quite often that fit the situation you were in. One is "No good deed goes unpunished." The other is "God grant me the serenity to endure my many blessings." Truly He was looking after you. I love how calmly handle your difficulties. Much respect to you. BEAUTIFUL scenery in the mountains. Love the winter scenes along your drives and camp sites and the gorgeous skies out there. Cannot beat seeing the cold winter scenes and then the warm beautifully lit van interior with steaming hot coffee! Lovely. I enjoyed seeing your garden greenery along your decor lights. I always appreciate the ambience in your van at night - or early in the morning. So glad you are OK with running off the road. I know your heart sank when it happened. It sure did not sound good. It warmed my heart to see those government snow truckers help that unfortunate man who was stuck in the ice and snow. Now that shows a culture with heart, human blood, and compassion. Even though they may not have been approved to do that and it was not their problem, they helped out anyway on the spot. In America????? Not sure that would happen with government personnel of today. Maybe in a very small local area. And you went right out in your PJs and shoveled and helped all you could and stayed with the man. It is wonderful to see people helping older folks. Sadly (I'm complaining), Reno is in for record-breaking warm temperatures from Sunday through Tuesday. The nearby snow capped mountains are slowly losing some of their snow cap.
13:47; It was nice that the plow vehicle driver gave you permission to overnight in that parking area.
21:25; The sound of the crash - Whoever just crashed their vehicle is thankful that you've offered to help.
WrapBurgers, very creative.
42:40; moved over to make room for the other vehicle who drove off leaving you to deal with your off-road problem. At least others stopped to ask about you. Fortunately, your van didn't roll over on its side.
Seems like the tow truck driver is concerned about the angle of lean of your van. You were really fortunate that your van didn't roll over onto its side.
Please, Jarl, when you use the English word, "awesome" - please also use the Norwegian & Swedish words for added emphasis.

Yeah, I was glad I didnt go further put and tip over, the tow truck driver was looking under my van to see the towing hook that is installed from the factory, welded to the frame, he thought that looked strong so he had the van out in a second.

Great video. The mountain colors spectacular! At least the only thing hurt was pride? Not the van. That was a rut. Hopefully the last time that happens.
All good Butch, dont think it affected my pride, but I am always glad that something like this happens in a safe and controlled manner. You learn something from it, like now I know not to trust the plow sticks a 100% and leave a safety margin because they can be placed a bit too far from the tarmac.
Another awesome video the drone shots always blow my mind but I am always left with 100 questions in my mind after watching 😂.

Yep sometimes things don't go the way you plan, but thank goodness you're okay. It would be terrible to get stranded in a situation like that but you were prepared. That's the key. So glad that little accident wasn't any worse, it easily could have been worse. Still nerve racking, though. Beautiful sky shots. We here in Maine, USA, do get some gorgeous sunsets, but nothing as dramatic as yours. Take care of yourself and stay safe.
