It's so nice to see a mechanic how-to video that's well-lit, properly framed, and explained by someone who sounds like he has done the job a few times 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank God I finally found a guy that addressed what I was looking for!! Ty so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing job thank you for all your hard-working time into this tutorial but other people may be able to better understand what you’re trying to do
I wish I had neighbors like this dude.
Falcon, I just thought of something that I don't think you mentioned in your vid. Chevy's instructions in the FSM say you should bring the temperature of the transmission fluid up to at least 185 F and no more than 215 (I think this is accurate, but I could be wrong). Did you do this? The FSM warns that if you don't do this, it will result in an incorrect amount of ATF in the transmission.
you will blow your trans if you follow thus video. left out very important parts.
Dang no answer lol
@@baba10yeBecause it wasn’t done. But now he realizes it and will do it from now on.
How would you know when the temperature is ready
I like the coolant hose modification (small hose leading to resavoir coming top of engine ) those oem quick connect with the metal clip tend to break easy and leak.I fixed mine with a brass barb connector and 5/8 hose sleeve over smalk hose and 2 hose clamps problem solved.
Thanks so much for posting this informative, very well-made video. You've even told me the size wench that I'll need.
Thank you for your explanations.
I have to do it at work, a customer broke his right shaft because the suspension ball failed ( She was warned that there was a lot of gambling), it's on a Chevy Trax.
It's very helpful for me because in France we don't have many automatic gearboxes and the most mechanics doesn't want to touch it lol
👍
I concur. If my ball fails, the likelihood that my shaft will work correctly go down significantly.
Sir, you have deserved a like and a new subscriber.
Much appreciated!
he kept saying oil did U mean transmission fluid🤷🏽♀️either way great video clear & to da point great job!
Yes. Same thing
Thank you for your video... I too have a 2010 model like the other poster and it said 8.5L however I drained out 4L then I put 3L back in and it started coming out of the fill plug... then I turned on the car and kept filling another 1L untill it came out of the fill plug again. total put back in was 4L I then went for a 5 minute drive parked with the car idling then took off the fill plug and nothing was draining out so I ended up putting in another 700ml untill it started coming out of fill plug again, My question is why did the car want even more Fluid once I went for a drive opposed to idling the car in PARK ? I ended up taking out 4L and put 4.7L back in... I assume it may have not been filled correctly originally or that it has a small leak...... have I over filled? Thanks for your great video very helpful
it could have been alittle low... the reason why it goes down its because while driving the fluid flows into the solenoids and hoses
thanks for quick reply is it best to have it coming out of level plug when car is running in idle or just after a short drive so that all fluid flows in hoses and solenoids ?
after a short drive 5-10 minutes
Thanks Falcon just out of curiosity how much extra fluid is bad for transmission??? if it was overfilled by .5 quart or (500mL) how bad is that for the transmission? and on the other hand is it worse to have tranmission under filled vs over filled?
i also did the same with my cruze, went 4.7L in my car. i put 4.0L first and was able to add 0.7L after a little drive
Excellent video!!!
Thank you very much!
When I take my check plug out alot of trans fluid comes out what should I do? I have watched several videos and on all of them it the fluid doesn't come out of that hole but mine comes rushing out
It means it’s filled at the right level. If a lot comes out then you overfilled but if just a bit comes out then you’re at the level .
Hi great video very helpful. I have a chevrolet trax 2013 i just need to know do this two car have a transmission oil filter and do you need to change it when you change a oil.
I think both of this transmissions have internal filters .. meaning you cannot replaced it unless you take the transmission apart.
Thank you! I just changed my radiator and forgot to put the clip in the transmission line. Transmission fluid everywhere smh
I put in 4.7 liters of transmission oil. I didn't check the level. Did i overfil it .?
probably, but its impossible to know with out knowing exactly how much it was taken out
@@FalconsGarageThanks for replying. I drained 4 liters.
Hi I have a 2014 chevy cruze and I noticed next to the transmission plug is leaking red fluid when its parked
Wife's Cruze has 117k miles on it and I don't think it's ever been serviced. Book says 97k service transmission fluid. wonder if it's too far gone or good to change, guess I'll have to see what the fluid looks like
check how it looks .. but IMO its never too far gone .. but just use an additive
@@FalconsGarage what does the additive do?
Do you know where I can get the rubber piece at
Thanks my man i learn a lot from you today
Thanks for watching!
Ok so basically pull drain plug until nothing comes out with the car sitting level. Put drain plug back in. Then pull the level plug and pour fluid til it comes out of the level plug. Then fire up the car with the level plug still off and fill til it comes out again. Then put all plugs back and done????
Thanks for the Video, I learned a lot.
Does Have the AT a fluid filter to change?
It’s internal. It cannot be changed unless the transmission gets taken apart
@@FalconsGarage thanks for that answer. Been looking all over the place for it.
By any chance is it the same for the 2017 Chevy Cruze model?
You seem like you know chevys pretty well. I have one question
I have a 2015 Chevy malibu 2.5L
Do you know if I have to change the transmission filter too??
I would call your local parts store.. autozone or advanced .. ask them if they can sell you the transmission filter ... they should be able to tell you if its serviceable or not ...
Excellent video 📹!
Appreciate it!
Whats the plug in part name that was next to the cap?
We got an oil change today, we asked can you check our transmission fluid on our 2017 Cruz, mechanic said there noway you can check it. 😳

So my stepdaughter lives in Michigan and I live in NW Ohio. She has a 2015 Cruze that is leaking tranny fluid. Where is the common leak areas?
front nd rear main seal
What about the 2018 model
Question, would it be better or easier to suck the transmission fluid out from the top with a fluid recovery system?
do you mean a flush machine? or just a suction pump?
if its just a suction pump .. just do it from the bottom and let it drain ... if its a flush machine YES that would be better
Does this process work for every Cruze Model ? I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze ECO
the cruze on the video is an eco 1.4T

Very good video...
Sir,
I heard that changing transmission fluid cause damage of gear box ? Please answer, actually my automatic transmission is slipping. So want to try changing the gear oil.
Sounds like the damage is already done, Mo. The Cruze transmission is notorious for being poorly engineered. Some of them go bad before 50,000 miles.
no. If it's slipping, the damage is done. it won't damage it more but all the clutch particles that keep it from slipping more, will leave the transmission, causing it to slip more. if it's a good transmission, sure, replace it every once in a while. if old, nah, cos you'll need a rebuild to fix anything.
I have thr same car. 2015 1.4 lt cruze, is there any filters that you ever have to change on the tranny or just do the oil every 50k?
wow congrats bro almost there to 5k
thanks!
how many liters of oil go inside? thank you
What is the frequency of changing the transmission oil??
every 50k miles or so
@@FalconsGarage thanks 👍👍
How many litres of fluid can be use to fill after the flush out.
Just wondering,
I heard that you have to do it when the transmission is hot or at a certain temperature.
Just wanted to double check...
Yeah. Around 200 degrees.
@Arnoldo Adaire Temperature needs to be above 60*c, to be sure around 85-95*c.
The 6T40/45 utilize a thermal type element to control the oil level in the unit similar to other GM units. Known as a “Fluid Level Control Valve” the unit is basically a thermally controlled stand pipe. Fluid Level Control Valve is attached to the transmission case, next to the control valve body assembly, and is designed to control the fluid level in the control valve body cover assembly. The fluid level control valve contains a temperature sensitive strip of metal that reacts to fluid temperature changes and opens or closes a fluid passage. The maximum fluid level in the control valve body cover area is controlled as fluid overflows the top of the fluid level control valve pipe and drains into the case sump.
At temperatures below 60°C (140°F), the thermostatic element allows fluid to drain from the control valve body cover area into the case sump. As the temperature of the transmission fluid increases, the thermostatic element traps fluid in the control valve body cover area and the fluid level rises. This level of transmission fluid is required in order to maintain the operation of the hydraulic system in the transmission.A damaged or loose thermostatic element could cause fluid foaming or incorrect fluid level. The fluid temperature must be at operating temperature in order to obtain a proper fluid level in the case. Checking the fluid level with the fluid temperature below operating temperature will result in a high fluid level (over filled). This will cause the transaxle to over heat setting code P0218 and possibly fluid leaking out of the vent.
I have 120, 000 miles on my chevy cruze it shifts fine but i never changed the fluid is it a risk if i change it
How different are the 2017 cruzes to change ATF?

baryalai wazir the 8.5l should be the total fill capacity. If the transmission is completely drained. Can you advise, how do we change transmission fluid filter and seal on Chevy Cruze petrol
are you talking like the one on the video?
there no filter you can do on this car unless you take the tranny out rebuild it
So I just need to drain it from the bottom and put some in then start it and keep filling until it leaks out then turn it off and put it plug in?
yes.. car needs to be on.. put about 5qtr before turning on the car ... fill and stop when it starts poring out .. plug it back up .. take it for a test drive and check level again

Falcon, what's the average labor price for this job (transmission fluid change) on a 2011 Chevy cruze?
for a flush around $100-$150 labor depending on where you live

I have heard different opinions on NOT doing a transmission flush after X miles if it's never been done. My 2011 chevy cruze is at 140K miles ive never done a transmission. What is your opinion on that Falcon?

Mine does it too. It’s standard. Right when you start the car and the first time you go about 12 mph. Your car will make a click like sound. It’s nitmal
I have heard it too. Usually just the first time it makes a shift since a cold start. There is a click or spring release noise. Transmission works fine otherwise. Also once the noise has happened it wont do it again until the car is turned off and sits for a bit.

What was the leak on this car I think I have a trans fluid leak on my 2012 1.4 turbo 6 speed automatic. Near the hoses coming out of transmission
Transmission wasn’t leaking. Was doing some maintenance oil change
Thanks for the info, I'll have to say this is probably the dumbest thing they have done to a vehicle. It's one thing if it was a self contained unit(rear gear housing, manual transmission) but in an automatic some engineer needs to be slapped.
Hi thank you for your video
. I own a 2014 chevy sonic 1.4 turbo with automatic transmission I believe it's the same engine and trans in this chevy cruze ... question is after I drain fluid and put drain plug back in then add fluid shouldn't I move it thru the gears then take it for a ride to get the tranny fluid up to the proper operating temperature then put it back up on the ramps and jack up the back so its level then pull the level plug bc I have read it must be at correct level and correct operating temperature first then pull the bolt to check to see if fluid weeps out bc hot fluid expands right? Thank you Pennsylvania 😊
yes.. exactly
Falcon's Garage hi just wanted to say I drained my automatic transmission fluid and it was black .. 4.5 quarts came out after I let it drain 45 minutes then I refilled it with 4.5 quarts but after I ran it three the gears and let it idle for a long time even bringing up the rpms to 2000 I then pulled the leveler plug but nothing came out so i dumped in the other half a quart which then it started coming out yes i had it running.... i think i was previously low because I changed my radiator ... Great news tho with the new 5 quarts of tranny fluid oh my it runs like it was new!!!!!!.. Question there still is 4.5 of old fluid in system bc it holds 9 quarts total so I'm going to be doing 3 more drain and fills every 500 miles as I believe this will bring me to within 90 some % Of all new fluid .. what do you think 2014 chevy sonic 1.4 turbo ..... Transmission oil? it depends on how much you lost or what your doing .. check your manual or auto parts store
If I just measure the fluid that comes out, and put it in a empty jug, do I have to still do the step with the level plug? Could I just put the exact same fluid that came out if I measured it and skip the whole removing tire and using the level plug?
What if it was low before? With out checking levels you will leave it low again. 🤔🤔

Hi I’m having problems with my Chevy Cruze I was wondering if you could give me a few answers
ill help with what ever i can
When I put my car into reverse and press the gas the car moved right away, as soon as I put my car into drive and I press the gas it revs up to 4000rpm before moving. This happens every morning, night and day. When I’m at a res light and my car is in drive I’ll take my foot off the brake and the car won’t move and if it does it goes backwards. When I’m driving at about 60miles the car will be rev up to about 5000rmp and won’t shift down. I’ve took my car to 3 different places and even the dealership and they can’t tell me what’s wrong with it. Thank you
to me sounds like a transmission problem.
low on fluid, bad transmission or needs reprograming
I had a small transmission leak in my Cruze and wanted to check the fluid level. After driving the car for a bit I removed the overfill plug and the fluid ran out pretty good. I didn't let too much run out and replaced the plug, should I have let it flow out until it quit and then fill? By just removing the overfill plug and not the drain plug it wont let all the fluid run out will it? I don't want to harm the transmission. Thanks
What you did was good, you dont have to let it drain until nothing comes out... as long as you see some come out it should be at level
Thank you
did you heat the engine up and run all gears before removing plug? it will always overflow even if quantity good if your fluid is not in all pathways of your transmission.
Falcon's Garage ,did he know the car should be running to check fluid level otherwise if the engines off most of fluid would run out and she's got to be running when she take that check plug out to make sure you know on the level

there is always risk specially if you have never services it before .. but if you have .. just add some additives when refilling

Thank U !
What kind of additives? Will it be ATF dexron VI or ATF stop leak with Dexron vi.
So Chevy is trying to charge me $300 to get my transmission flushed. Is that the right price ? because anywhere else is like $150
well the dealer is always going to be 2x more then every were else ...
also are they doing a flush or a drain and fill?
Why are you getting it flushed? It doesn't need it. Plus, this can create even more problems by dislodging sludge and particles that are sealing gaps and preventing leaks, etc. Trust me, this is a bad idea. Save money and just have the fluid replaced.
A flush is also more in depth than a drain and fill. Like falcon said, its the stealership so that's not unheard of. oddly enough the Oil change at my chevy dealer is half the price of anywhere else when I had to pay for them to keep my warranty
