Marine buddy of mine was trained for nuclear war, as in using it. He told me this: If a battalion was hit by a tactical nuke and the surviving Marines had 600+REMs exposure, they'd feel fine for about 6hrs then get sick and pass. So, they'd inform the Marines of this, give them pain and steroids and lots of ammo, then point them at the enemy, reminding them of how the radiation will end them and the people who caused it are over the next hill.
