Hello, I hope you enjoyed this video! I'm curious, which of these cameras is your favourite? Or... do you think the collection is missing something - if so, what? :D Btw. as mentioned in the video, I've finally made a print shop, so in case you like my work and want to decorate a wall with a print, you can check out what is available here: teocrawford.darkroom.com/ Have a great week

Great video Teo, thank you for sharing this and the personal stories you have with quite a few of these machines. That Olympus XE-3 looks like a real pleasure to use. I was wondering, what do you think about early 80's Minolta SLRs? I use an XG-M and an X-500, altering just for fun.
It surprises me that you haven't felt the urge to venture into different format films, like 120 or 110. I wonder if you would someday feel the call of a nice TRL camera. Rollei TRLs can be pricey (they're certainly not in my budget) but Yashica made some nice TRLs that would be a little easier on the budget. Even the Yashicas might be a bit much but there are decent Soviet TLRs like the Lubitel 166, which are not only affordable but smaller and cuter than other brands

My first film camera was some Kodak point-and-shoot but recently I finally laid my hands on a part of my grandpa's collection and acquired Zorki-6 in imported version (now fully restored) and Kiev-4M (still broken) rangefinders. I just want to say, I found out about your channel today and have gone down a complete film photography rabbit hole. My grandpa just gifted me my grandma's old Pentax MV, and I had no idea where to even begin with it. I just ordered some Kodak 100 film (from your recommendation :) )and I hope that once it arrives I can start to take some cool shots! I loved the shots you took in your videos, and I just appreciate how much time and how thoroughly you go through things in the cameras. I love taking pictures but have never really gotten into photography using cameras, but your video has genuinely made me so thrilled to embark on this journey. It's really amazing what deals you can get. I picked up a Nikon F3 HP for, well, let's just say "F3 money" some time ago and felt it would be unjust to leave my girlfriend with just the handful of mediocre point-and-shoots I had gifted her, so I looked for affordable SLRs on Willhaben as you did, and picked up a Cosina Hi-Lite with a perfectly good 55mm Fujinon for all of 10 euros. It was cheap because the viewfinder was infested by fungus, which took me a short 20 minutes of disassembly, cleaning and reassembly to fix, the rest was in flawless working order. I will quite plainly say, especially cameras that are held in high regard like the Nikon F series, Leica Ms and other fancy rangefinders that use the M mount etc. are just plain nicer than cameras that can be had for cheap, but unless you plan on really investing into that system with further lenses and other accessories, it's not really worth it compared to how much value you can get out of a camera significantly cheaper as long as it doesn't have a mechanical defect.
Hi Theo, I was hooked with your channel, because of your Praktica. Those little tanks from Dresden (my hometown) deserves more love than they get. I can recommend you my favorite M42 SLRs, the Fujica ST line, especially the 801 as the high tier manual camera. Uses available batteries, fantastic viewfinder, and a self-timer. The ST705 delivers in even a smaller package, not much larger than a Pentax MX or Olympus OM and therefore the smallest M42 body, I know so far. keep the on with the good work and Grüße nach Österreich :)
To start, you were the inspiration in starting my film journey and I now have two Pentax K1000s. I also am collecting cameras but my issue with 35mm is that there's nothing more I want that the K1000 can't do. I love it and it's never far from me. My search now is for a half frame camera to carry in my pocket daily.
I love my Pentax K1000. First film camera I ever bought, it really is a workhorse. Highly recommend it for beginners, you really can't go wrong. Plus the shutter sound is incredibly satisfying.
Getting into film photography again (SLR, I really love instant film too), my late grandpa had a Fujica ST701, and a ton of lenses, filters, tripods etc for it. My Grandma let me keep it, its been a few years since I’ve had it and I’m only now getting it set up with some film. Its a beautiful camera.
I recently got my first film camera, a Voigtländer Vito CLR from my grandmother and I really like it. Its a robust rangefinder with a lightmeter and a self timer!
Currently owning a Olympus OM-1n and Canon AE-1 as my two only 35mm film cameras. Especially the OM-1n as my favorite camera. I’m loving it. It’s fully mechanical and only needs a battery for the light meter. The results of the photos are phenomenal. I like it more than my canon AE-1 to be honest. The small compact size, is very satisfying to travel with. Nevertheless the Canon AE-1 is also a great camera.
As a newbie who's been dreaming of analog camera for years and years, I'd go for: - k1000 to learn exposure - olympus xa for street leica m2 as dream 35mm And hasselblad 500cm as absolute dream
Awesome collection Teo! You’ve made some incredible work with some not so expensive cameras which I think is important for people to see. You gotta find some cheap rangefinders!! See you at Brae’s community gallery stream!
Around the late ‘70s and early ‘80s the major camera manufacturers brought out cheaper smaller lighter SLRs with electronic shutters and auto exposure. These are cameras such as the Olympus OM10, Pentax ME Super and the Nikon FG, also the slightly larger Canon ae-1 and Minolta x300. These are all quite similar cameras but each has certain different features.. my personal favourite is the Nikon FG. Each has a different lens mount, so your choice my be influenced by the lenses that you already have. The Pentax and Minolta can both take older M42 lenses with an adapter but the Nikon cannot; I’m not sure about the other two. Adapters are available for Nikon but there is a problem with them. Due to the distance between the Nikon F mount and the film plane there is not room to fit an adapter. This means that with a simple adapter the lens will not focus to infinity, but can be used for close-ups. There are also adapters which contain a lens element. These will focus correctly, but the lens element is often of poor optical quality, and the effective focal length of the lens will be increased slightly when the adapter is fitted.
had the pleasure of shooting with the k1000 during my year 10 photography class; absolutely adore everything about it! looking forward to picking one up once i'm in uni
Something you can buy for the k1000 or any slr without a self timer is a mechanical self timer that you screw into the shutter button, they are fairly cheap and work just as good!
I believe the camera I used for my ONE black and White Photography class in college was a K1000, and also my Dad’s, making it the official camera of Dads.
My first film camera was gifted to me too, and it appears to be an Canon EOS 500N and it’s a pretty modern film camera that my Grandfather bought back then, because it was an beginner camera I use it until today…
I really enjoyed your video showing off your collection of vintage cameras. I'm happy to see you have the Mamiya/Sekor 500 DTL. That was my first love, coupled with the Mamiya 50mm f/2 lens. Currently I shoot film with the Pentax ZX SLR primarily using the SMC Takumar 105mm f/2.8 lens or the Mamiya/Sekor 50mm f/1.4 radioactive lens. Film photography is such a joy.
Thank you for a beautiful edited video and amazing photography. I started off shooting film, in my time, film-camera was all we had. ( Quite a bit older than you lol) I still have several film cameras some working and others passed their time. Their is something so magical about film. I know you can recreate it in digital these days, however it's not the same. I recently bought an Olympus D half frame camera which I'm dying to try. Never shot with a half frame. Film these days is not as accessible as it once was. Only a couple of places sell it where I live, otherwise it's on line ordering. Oh my, how times have changed! I remember one hour photos. You drop your film and an hour later it was ready, and you couldn't wait to see what you got. Thank you for sharing
9:30 hello hello, i guess this mark or stain in the viewfinder could be because someone tried to increase the contrast of the viewfinder patch? i’ve heard that placing a mark, a stain or gel right in the middle could help increasing the visibility of the patch :) also great video, as always i really enjoyed the shots!!!
Amongst my collection of M42 mount cameras I have a pair of rather excellent Porst Reflex C-TL Super cameras. Made in Japan in the early 1970's for the German photographic wholesaler, Porst, these are good, solid, well-made, cameras.
The k1000 was also my first film camera. But it was also my first camera. My dad got it for me as a gift in about 2008 in middle school. I love it still
Finally found someone who uses Prakticas! I inherited an LTL 2 model from my uncle and there seems to be quite little info about it online… I have shot 1 roll with it so far but I have absolutely fallen in love with film photography and would like to keep doing it.
Hi! I was looking for videos of some film cameras and stumbled upon your video! My grandfather used to be a photographer/ videographer back in the day, and recently took me to his storage unit. We found about 20 cameras (photo and video ones). So now I'm trying to figure out how all of them work. Really loved your video, and will keep watching all of them 😄
I have that same Pentax and I love it. My dad bought it when he was in the navy and travelling around. It's also taken a bit of a beating but still working work perfectly and only needed repairs once. It's really a workhorse of a camera
Lovely video. I have a number of these including a Pentax Spotmatic F and the Minilta Riva Zoom 75W. You won’t believe how good and cheap the newer Practicas are. I have the BX20 and the BCA electronic which both take stunning shots
Hi Theo, I really loved your camera collection! I recently got my first one from my dad as well, it’s a FED 5B and it also got a spot in a viewfinder as your Zenith does. That spot is actually there to set the sharpness of the shot. Basically you need to focus on that spot first and make an image clear there and then set the rest of the settings. I’m sure there’s a manual online that gives a better explanation haha.
And still you better check your FED for hidden breaks because most of them (especially FED-2 and FED-5 series) fell down the rabbit hole of poor quality control due to rapid increase in produce
Chose the Pentax ME Super for my first film camera. New to the space but I went out to San Diego shooting this past week and I can already tell I’m going to love Film Photography. My fingers are crossed that my first roll comes out decent😬😂
Wonderful collection and great video! I am hunting for some point & shoot myself at the moment but am kind of overwhelmed by the options. The Exa is a very nice, simple camera that are known to be very reliable and almost impossible to destroy. I got myself the exa 1b because it takes M42 lenses and they are dirt cheap to pick up.
Hehe thanks!☺️ Ohh yes, there are so many it‘s so hard to choose from - I hope I could maybe give you some ideas in the video🙌🏼 Ohh cool, I didn’t know that the EXAs are generally cheap… they feel quite fancy actually☺️
Nice story and nice presentation---thanks! One note though: the wonderful Olympus XA3 is not a rangefinder camera but instead is a viewfinder camera with zone focus, also colloquially known as guess focus, as you found out.
The advantage with buying the basement price Praktica is that it takes very good photos because they are German made with German lens and generally German lenses are quite expensive so this is a way around that. The EXA is also German.
If I can recommend something. The pentax k mount to m42 adapter it a great accessory if you are looking to use M42 with other cameras. I only say as you mentioned that you got the praktika due to wanting another M42. The adapter is an incredibly cheap way to open up your options
Just found you and I have to say I love your artistry! I'm looking forward to collecting some of your art through the years and learn from you! Keep it up!
Very nice camera collection! I'm also very keen on shooting with vintage cameras from the USSR (especially the Zorki models) or the GDR. Another brand I fell in love with and which I can highly recommend is Voigtländer. I own my dad's old "Bessamatic", some of the smaller "Vitomatics" and a "Vitessa T". All of them are fully mechanical cameras from the late 50s to mid 60s, they're reliable, built to last and - depending on the model - good value for money. Most of the Voigtländer lenses are amazing. I'd recommend the Color Ultron lens with the M42 mount. They can go up in price but with a bit of luck you can still get them for a bargain. I payed about 50,-€ for mine and it's worth every cent!
I got my Zenit E for £8 and bought a broken zenit EM for the Helios lens that came with it. Because of the good old soviet engineering, I can salvage most of the parts from the EM to fix and upgrade parts of the E
Weirdly enough, I was also gidted an Olympus Mju ii today. Its the Zoom 80 and I like it. I'm shooting the first roll tomorrow. My first 35mm was and is still a Praktica MTL3. I also have an LTL3. Very solid cameras
I have a Nikon F manual. Later I bought an F3-HP and recently an F50 which I haven't tried yet. I got the last one on ebay for about £25 including postage.
I just got my grandpas old Pentax spotmatic repaired. The shutter got stuck open at lower speeds but seemed fine with the higher ones. From what the repair guy told me it means that the springs inside the camera have slipped and are no longer properly aligned, which also means that the higher shutter speeds aren’t accurate (Regarding your mamiyas)
Hi! Just discovered your channel and it is so informative yet your voice is so calming. I want to know about something. Are these photos edited or raw pics? Bc if they are raw then these are aswesome!
Hey Teo - I love your style and photography so much. Quick question - can you reccomend any other point and shoot cameras that have a self timer? The praktica mtls B looks a bit too techncial for me and as you say in your other videos I know that would be a barrier to me ACTUALLY using it hahah
About Zenit - you can find a lot of spare parts for them and they’re quite easy to repair, so clearing the viewfinder or light meter window would be like a piece of cake
Hey Teo! Ive gotten lucky and picked up one of the Olympus for around 4$ at a flee market, such a steal! Along with the some Film that was way too expired ( looked good after ). Thats for sharing
I found my Pentax K1000 at a yard sale a few years ago for around $30 USD. it's missing the part that covers the frame counter. the knob to pull the film back into the canister is bent but still works just fine. the body is in very good condition overall.
I found my Minolta XG 2 in a dumpster in my school where they threw away old stuff from our physics rooms. Later I found the Voigtländer Vito CL unfortunately broken. Im currently on my sixth film and I really liked it. Even with todays setback of a stuck film in my camera while advancing, resulting with a ¾ roll of film ripped in half. Still hoping for decent results
Very useful and nice made video ! My Prakticas are all reliable and sturdy. I can recommend especially all MTL types. But you should pay around 50 Euros or Dollars with a standard lens to get a better condition.
Look for the chinon CX or similar m42 mount ones my CX has everything the zenith has and higher shutter speed settings plus a in the view finder light meter and can be had for around £35.99 fully working with a lense
I would like to quickly say, that the dirty spot on the Zenit is the silver mirror finish on the outside of the pentaprism starting to rust or simply crumble, seems to be a rather common thing And with Prakticas, yeah, they are somewhat less durable than Pentax K1000, but earlier Praktica cameras tend to be more durable than 1000 and 1500 since they were made towards the years where most of the Soviet lenses and cameras suffer from quality problems But yeah, MTL5 B is a good one, MTL 5, MTL 3, LTL 3, LTL 2. These all have a brighter viewfinder and I am particularly in love with LTL 3 because... Well, apart from being a good camera it also has silver dials. And that's pretty. I am biased, but it is still good. I have a regular LTL and it is still quite sturdy
I love my Olympus XA! You got some great shots with the XA3 even with the constraints it places on focusing. Just posted a POV vid with my Olympus XA and some fuji 400 in mine. But even with the added functions, my pics are pretty mid compared to what you got in the XA3
Fujica ST is also a great option if you are on tight budget. At least on Asia, that's pretty common. And since I'm a Nikoner, it's hard not to recommend the Nikkomat/Nikkormat.
It’s great that you’ve been meaning to get your hands on the Olympus MJU. Just got my MJU V (Metal) and shot Portra 400 with it at my recent wedding. Waiting on results. Any experience with it, Teo?
zenit cameras seems to have the viewfinder problem pretty frequently my girlfriend has two of them a zenit EM and an 11 and both of them have this wierd line burned in the middle of the viewfinder same on my gandpa's zenit E
Teo, great collection of film cameras. Film makes you slow down and think about composition, lighting etc. too easy to take 50 or so shots with a digital. Do you develop your own own film? Another great video. Well done
Funny, I'm just starting but got into photography in a similar way. After my Dad passed I found his Hasselblad 500c, and decided to learn it even though I knew nothing about it. I decided to pick up a point and shoot also for practice. Getting into film instantly sparked an urge to collect the old cameras though, like you were saying 😂
I recently found Zenith-B camera, but the shutter speed button(is that called a button?) doesnt work and i don't know how to fix it. But i still bought a film and im shooting with it. I don't know how the photos will come out, however i am actually really excited. Im thinking about buying another one.
Mamiya 1000 M42 an underrated as underrated camera gets... It's M42 also... so universal mount... There are SO many lenses available.... With the prices of K1000s, AE-1s and Olympus OM-2s going all kinds of crazy, if you want a good camera that does the basic 1/1000 stuff you've stumbled onto a low cost gold mine with lens choices from Zeiss to Mamiya in the Middle and Agfa on the other side. M42 had basically every manufacturer from A to Z. Also, you can still buy new and near new Voigtlander lenses for M42 mount. Voigtlander is the only company that is doing that now apart from Leica of manufacturing new lenses for old cameras. The only better M42 camera is the Voigtlander Bessaflex with a 1/2000 shutter (but it doesn''t fit the price point of being cheap, or a camera set up for being set up for beginners). The Bessaflex nevertheless does have every setting you would expect from a modern, fully manual, SLR though, including a reasonably fast shutter speed, ISO control, and flash sync (with a cold shoe adapter, becoming "hot" when it's connected to the PC port) and extremely accurate internal metering. The Bessaflex is comparable in size to a Nikon FE, with all the features you'd expect on a Nikon F2.
Enjoyed your video. I recently started using the Pentax K2 that I bought as a student in 1976, very curious how the results are. Its now possible to buy many of the beautiful lenses they made at that time, but which were then far too expensive for me. Most of them are relatively cheap and I found a couple on ebay in Japan that are as new. Besides, most of them work great with an adapter on my modern Nikon Z7.

As a newbie who's been dreaming of analog camera for years and years,
I'd go for:
- k1000 to learn exposure
- olympus xa for street
leica m2 as dream 35mm
And hasselblad 500cm as absolute dream
I have an Olympus Xa1 and the fact that it is a rangefinder is why I prefer it over its successors
Awesome collection Teo! You’ve made some incredible work with some not so expensive cameras which I think is important for people to see. You gotta find some cheap rangefinders!! See you at Brae’s community gallery stream!
Heeey thanks Reimann! Hmm you're getting me tempted again haha.
Ohh yes, I already spotted you in the gallery! :D
I got a Pentax MG on Kleinanzeigen. It's in good shape and I'm looking forward to the first pictures with it.
These will focus correctly, but the lens element is often of poor optical quality, and the effective focal length of the lens will be increased slightly when the adapter is fitted.
had the pleasure of shooting with the k1000 during my year 10 photography class; absolutely adore everything about it! looking forward to picking one up once i'm in uni
finally a youtube film photog geek with an actual good photographic eye 😍
Something you can buy for the k1000 or any slr without a self timer is a mechanical self timer that you screw into the shutter button, they are fairly cheap and work just as good!
Just got one a couple weeks ago!😍
I bought the minolta riva right after watching your video. Exactly what i was looking for, thank you !!
I watch your videos before bed because your voice is just that soothing and calm. But that gasp when your Pentax fell 💔
Zenit E, my first proper film camera, bought new I think in the late 70s or early 80s. Great stuff!
Subbed within the first 30 seconds of this video... I can't wait to see your other content.
It's really a workhorse of a camera
m
I have a new apartment I'm moving into this summer, I'll look into your shop, you're a huge inspiration to me!
UA-cam film photographers will buy anything other than the goat, ae1
Lovely video. I have a number of these including a Pentax Spotmatic F and the Minilta Riva Zoom 75W. You won’t believe how good and cheap the newer Practicas are. I have the BX20 and the BCA electronic which both take stunning shots
Hi Theo,
I really loved your camera collection!
Exacta cameras are known for getting pin holes in the shutter curtains. Be sure to check that out on any example you consider buying.
These photos were stunning. So impressed
I have a tip. Ask your grandparents/parents if they have any cameras you can use if your on a budget and on the search for a film/analog camera
Hehe thanks!☺️
Ohh yes, there are so many it‘s so hard to choose from - I hope I could maybe give you some ideas in the video🙌🏼
Ohh cool, I didn’t know that the EXAs are generally cheap… they feel quite fancy actually☺️
My uncle is a complete digital gear freak and scoffs at me and my analog cameras ... I just return the favour ✨️
Nice collection 👌
Nice story and nice presentation---thanks! One note though: the wonderful Olympus XA3 is not a rangefinder camera but instead is a viewfinder camera with zone focus, also colloquially known as guess focus, as you found out.
The Minolta has a kind of "dream" quality to ever photo it captures.
Haha holy cow, I learned on a Zenit ttl! Not many know about Zenit, and even fewer people use them, super cool camera!
Thank you so much for this video!! Exactly what I needed as a beginner to film photography! 🥰
The advantage with buying the basement price Praktica is that it takes very good photos because they are German made with German lens and generally German lenses are quite expensive so this is a way around that. The EXA is also German.
If there is no selftimer, the Autoknips is a good option to have the same effect but just externaly.
I'm just about to start my journey, got an old exa II for a whopping 10 bucks, it's just missing the take up spool! So excited to get into this
If I can recommend something.
Keep it up!
Awesome video! All of these cameras were so cool🌸✨
Very solid cameras
his voice is so calming
I have a Nikon F manual. Later I bought an F3-HP and recently an F50 which I haven't tried yet. I got the last one on ebay for about £25 including postage.
I just got my grandpas old Pentax spotmatic repaired.
The shutter got stuck open at lower speeds but seemed fine with the higher ones.
From what the repair guy told me it means that the springs inside the camera have slipped and are no longer properly aligned, which also means that the higher shutter speeds aren’t accurate
(Regarding your mamiyas)
I have a Zenit E and it’s got the weird mark down the middle of the viewfinder too! I assumed it was just to show the mid point of the shot
This video is great and super well shot, the photos are wonderful, I was wondering what film you used?
Omg the asmr at the beginning is so good lol
I would like to quickly say, that the dirty spot on the Zenit is the silver mirror finish on the outside of the pentaprism starting to rust or simply crumble, seems to be a rather common thing
And with Prakticas, yeah, they are somewhat less durable than Pentax K1000, but earlier Praktica cameras tend to be more durable than 1000 and 1500 since they were made towards the years where most of the Soviet lenses and cameras suffer from quality problems
But yeah, MTL5 B is a good one, MTL 5, MTL 3, LTL 3, LTL 2.
But even with the added functions, my pics are pretty mid compared to what you got in the XA3
bro got that unintentional Bob Ross ASMR vibes. Super chill
Fujica ST is also a great option if you are on tight budget. At least on Asia, that's pretty common. And since I'm a Nikoner, it's hard not to recommend the Nikkomat/Nikkormat.
This is SO helpful, thank you!
My k1000 was also my dad's! He bought It when he was 18 and coincidentally i became interested in photography when i was 18
Man.. that intro is godly
It’s great that you’ve been meaning to get your hands on the Olympus MJU. Just got my MJU V (Metal) and shot Portra 400 with it at my recent wedding. Waiting on results. Any experience with it, Teo?
can you make a video like this for lenses as well?
zenit cameras seems to have the viewfinder problem pretty frequently my girlfriend has two of them a zenit EM and an 11 and both of them have this wierd line burned in the middle of the viewfinder same on my gandpa's zenit E
The Pentax K1000 Is the first film camera I own, and it's still in my collection!
I owned a collection of Pentax K series in various condition, but I had a hard time maintain and service them.
Teo, great collection of film cameras.
Film makes you slow down and think about composition, lighting etc.
too easy to take 50 or so shots with a digital. Do you develop your own own film? Another great video. Well done
Thanks! No, I drop my film off at a lab and pick up the negatives to then only do the scanning myself :)
I really like Ihagee Dresden EXA. Thanks for the vid
Once i saw that this video was being shot at movie level quality i knew i was in the right place
Besides, most of them work great with an adapter on my modern Nikon Z7.
i love my zenith e, but who decided to copy a western style slr, make it heavy af and not include sling mounts? how am i supposed to carry it
hey I am planning on getting the OLYMPUS OM30 VINTAGE 35MM do any of your know what batteries do I need for the camera
