- Incredible day Fly Fishing an Incredible clear water mounting stream with my buddy lance. we had plenty of hungry rainbow trout trying to eat our flies but could only connect to a few by days end.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

On those days of no sets, I, as an ex guide do and would always tie on some kind of loop knot to the dry. It is against all learning but I have had that little loop knot save many clients on bad days of sets, whether it be gear, fish, or just bad angles.
I'm amazed at the size of the fish you catch out of those small waters love watching you two fish tight lines🎣

I’m a new fly fisherman does anyone know why everyone nets every fish and not just grab them or lift them out of the water?
Trout have a protective layer of slime over them, being out of the water makes them deteriorate fast. If your hands aren't wet then you will essentially be burning the fishes skin. It is mainly to be kind to the fish and ensure we have healthy fish going back into the water.

One of my locals! I don't fish it anywhere near enough (once this season). There are a lot of blowfly around so maybe give that a go next time... but who am I to tell GB what to do!
