Today I take out the trusty kit lens for the ZV-E10 to see if we can get some good footage out of it.
The Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS (selp1650) is the standard lens packaged in with mirrorless cameras such as the Sony a5100 a6000 a6100 a6300 a6400 a6500 a6600 and the new ZV-E10

my wife saved enough to buy me a zv e10 that came with the kit lens for a very affordable set price, and the reason why i so much appreciate this video is because i (we) cannot afford to buy a separate more professional lens especially since i do youtube videos and personal photography only as a hobby. thank you for making me appreciate my current setup and envy less others who could buy lenses.
It’s a great camera and you can produce amazing content with the kit lens. In fact, in can make you a better photographer and videographer because you will think more about how you are shooting 👍👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisYES!
Is the camera still worth it instead of buying the zv e10 II? That would cost me double and I'm looking to start ad an hobbyist
I love these types of videos that show the kit lens in action and just accept it's limitations.
ikr, many other camera reviewers and youtubers just cannot accept its limitation. They just used to expensive lens. Many people can't afford the lens that they recommend and cost as much as the body camera it self. But they just tell people to buy other lenses and don't use the kit lens
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I've been watching your videos for a while thinking you've got a million subscribers 😱😱😱 You are so underrateddddd!! Your videos are always so informative AND FUNNY
haha - thanks!!
Even though I've gone full frame with Sony with my A7C, I still have the 16-50mm from when I had the ZV-E10. There are many situations where having a blurry background isn't the intention. And given how small and light the 16-50mm is, it's really a no brainer for vlogging or even narrative filmmaking. When I shot a feature with the GH5, I used the 12-60mm f/2.8 for the entire shoot. It didn't have a lot of fancy bokeh, but that didn't bother the audiences who watched it. We got the Audience Favorite award at a film festival in Palm Desert, California. And it was well received at two other festivals we screened it at. So, don't sell yourself short if you use the 16-50mm lens. It's more capable than you may think.
congrats of your award - proof that the gear is only a small part of the equation. I still love my GH5!!
Wow! That is awesome.
You said "when I had the ZV-E10" as if ZV-E10 is a 5yo camera. LoL.
@@gigihanmandarin he buys and sells before anyone else has had a chance to buy - he’s quick 🤣🤣
@@gigihanmandarin word lol
Just got the ZV-E10 with the kit lens and I am very satisfied with it so far. Definitely agree that I need quite a bit of light when I am recording indoors/night time, but thankfully I have lights for that. I'm for sure going to get the Sigma lens here soon so I can have a bit more play in my low light videos, but another fantastic video. Very helpful as always!
as an indie filmmaker who loves camcorders, not a fan of changing lenses. the kit lens can work. did some test video with it tonight. great video by the way.
Today I became the proud owner of a Sony zv-e10 kit. including your reviews that influenced my choice))) it cost me $690
Very nice!! You’ll love it
Great video Mark, thank you.
I own the Sigma 16mm & the kit lens, and recently with all that buzz around the new Sigma 18 -50, I started to feel I must have it.
But as you showed here, the kit lens can perform really well and there's no need to chase after the newest gear all the time.
Work with what you have and you’ll figure out what you truly need as time goes by 👍
Not to add to your G.A.S, but the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 is REALLY good though. lol Worth saving up for IMO.
Don't get caught in Gear Acquiring Syndrome (GAS).
@@gigihanmandarin I live in the G.A.S. 🤣🤣. But it’s true that you should only buy what you need after some thought.
@@ArifKhan. I wanted to get the zve10 plus sigma 18-50 2.8…but the body only was out of stock and I was lucky to get my hands on body + kit lens. Now that I got it I’m wondering if I should go ahead with the sigma . Will it be worth it or should I just stick with the kit lens
Hi Mark I think sony got it spot on with the kit lens it's a great starting point for most beginners to build a good foundation of knowledge in the world of videography and photography
Hello my brother and thanks for sharing your knowledge a hug from New Jersey USA…
Does it crop in in 4k?
So if you use the sigma 56mm 1.4, you have go even further away?
no crop in 4k 24 or 25p. There’s a 10% crop in 30p. But of course this is an APSC camera, so a 56 looks like a 85 would on a full frame. But there’s no crop in the camera if you go from 1080 to 4K like a canon m50 for instance.
Very helpful review. Also such a funny guy 😂 makes the vid more enjoyable!
Thanks for showing the kit lense some love. I’d like to see more content with it simply because of the hate it gets.
That 50mm focal length looked really good. I just picked up the zv e10. (Right as everyone is saying the Mark II is about to come out 🤦🏾), but this is my first time using a DSLR and learning about cameras properly. I want to start making youtube videos and get good shots and photos. The examples you provide really helped me understand how to get the most out of this lens before i start investing in other lenses. So thank you
I don't think it's coming out until next year. Some people say the summer - but I think they'll wait until 2025
I may invest in this camera along with the kit lens plus the additional 10-18mm. The 6K downsampled image clarity looks phenomenal!
There's an 11-20 from Tamron that is a 2.8 as well that is great.
I really appreciate your videos! Concrete information presented in a very precise way, with a good sense of humor! Thanks to your help, there is a risk that my drum videos will be better recorded!
Thank you for the vid, very informative and insightful. Bought the EV-E10 w/ Kit Lens and have sworn off using it till I got the sigma 16mm 1.4. So I've just been playing with it and learning settings and such. Now, I think I'll go ahead and record with it as I feel better about the video quality it produces, after seeing your video. Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work!
Man UA-camrs (in general) have been making some good ass vids lately. No cap!
I tend to instantly disregard kit lenses, but it didn’t look too bad-especially when you composed the shot to maximize toneh. Btw, I would love to see you and Kasey from Camera Conspiracies do a collab. As funny as both of you are, I would die 😂
I second this idea!
Lol @ Toneh
this is exactly what i was looking for, thanks Mark
You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing, just got the ZV-E10, mainly for a YT camera. I did wonder about the kit lens, but due to budget, went for it. So far so good, more than happy with it. I’m also gonna take this camera on our upcoming Mediterranean cruise, as you say, it’s light, compact and discreet. You’ve reminded me that the kit lens is equivalent to 24-70 on a full frame, so pretty much a perfect travel lens. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍
You are in winter mood 😀 from a beginner point of you - and I am - the kit lens is a good start point after you will realize that is not enough and add more lenses but again at the beginning they are fair enough. As someone told me whatever camera you have it’s fine but invest more in lenses as they are your images entry point
Very true!
I hope to bump into you here in Toronto ☺️ Thank you for all the information you freely give us 😀
5:31 is the only thing I as a beginner came for. Thank you.
me and the man mark both love the lil boy zve-10. fitting mine out right now with some gear.
I bought this camera because it really all that I will need for quite some time. I am using it for photography as the primary, and video as secondary. Im new and just got the kit lens mainly because I don’t know what my first real lens should be. I shoot mostly outdoors, I’m a hiker and camper. Wish it was weather sealed but I’ll just try to be careful with it. Love the content though.
Hows the image stablization using 16mm or 30mm with this camera?
The oss that's in the Sony 16-50mm and the Sony 35mm works very well. Add a gimble and it's perfect.
And seeing how its a proprietary lens your getting great autofocus
You make a very compelling case for the kit lens! Thanks for this video!
So helpful. Thank you for sharing your insight. I’ve been going back and forth and this has helped me decide 🖤
I really liked this review, and your way of presenting and attitude.
Thanks!!
I like the kit lens. It’s great for travel. You’re right it’s a great back up lens. Great video
My kit lens came in handy when I started doing top down footage because it’s super light!
See this is why we keep you in the comments section.
Hi Mark! Thanks for the video! What microphone are you using here?
Hi Jess!! The Hollyland Lark 150. It's actually on a lighting deal right now on amazon if you live in the US amzn.to/3mhoYfl
Awesome another video I got to see from you Brother!
Thank you so much this was great!
I appreciate you and sending you lots of Love and Light! ♥🙏
Great info and I love the humor you got yourself another subscriber!
Awesome - thanks!!
Ahhh, really surprised at how good the kit lens looks and especially in photos, really nice, did you do anything special for that? It's funny when the Sony came this week I was like damn, this camera is like a little baby, SO small haha, and that Sigma 16 F1.4 that you twisted my arm to buy looks like a Bentley on top of a VW lol, but I know that lens will be the main one because I've seen the footage!
Having said that, happy to have the kit lens for the quick and easy lightweight side of things, really no excuse not to make the vids even with that one alone.
Always delivering the content with the laugh out loud moments, that's why I appreciate you more than the talking head, look at my UA-camrs ha!
Keep it up my bro, your channel is growing and your engagement is through the roof, big things coming your way and well deserved!
PS: Do you have a gear list anywhere or a start up list for in studio and vlogging? Trying to figure out what I actually NEED vs want everything that I see.
Looking for on the studio side, a good desk top light, (I'm in a temp place right now sitting at a desk, so something that can fill up the frame with good lightint but not a big floor light just yet), tripod for the desktop camera when doing lives and sitting vlogs. I know I need the 4K HDMI thing, I have the Shure SM7B for mic right now which should be cool. Anything else not sure? Then for Vlogs and shooting around, a tripod/handle thingy (yeah I'm high tech), I have the Go wireless, and then thought I'd get a lav to plug into those or shotgun mic for closer to camera?
Don't need to list all these, but would love to see you add a gear I use section to your description like all the big dogs. :-) And for starting up with the ZV E-10 etc.
Having said all that, you rock my brother, keep up the epic content and humor, good stuff!
I’ll try putting some things together. Make sure to check our Caleb Pike from DSLR VIDEOSHOOTER - he has a ton of cool setups for desktops!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Cool man, yeah I think I've seen some of his stuff, but he isn't funny like my Canadian friend haha, I'll check him out.
As far as Vlogging and outdoor stable shots any recommendations for regular size tripod for shots like you did in the alley, and small ones that convert into a handle and then mini tripod? And favorite mics? I think I saw your wireless set up, you use any shotgun mics as well or just your wireless and lapel mic? I see a lot of people talking about the Deity and Rode.
Like I said before, I have the Rode Go mics which I could always get a lapel mic for more distant shots, but thinking vlogging and walking around, maybe a shotgun might be better?
Anyway, enough questions dammit!
Appreciate you man.
Hey M! Just got my ZV-E10 (thanks to your influencing self :) and Sigma 16 mm f/1.4. I love your Sony APSC video series. Way to go! Keep going! Could you make a video(s) on a vlog desk setup? I'd love to see you at a desk Zooming, with a desk mount ZV-E10, boom mic, Sigma 16 mm f1.4, mounting hardware, and light arrangement. This is my first vlog/Zoom endeavor and I am curious what you would do?
You don't need a new lens for that job. Clear Image Zoom can achieve the same requirements you asked for $0
I will try to something like that eventually, but I suggest looking at Caleb Pike from DSLR Video shooter. he has amazing setups for zoom meetings or desk setups in general ua-cam.com/video/WedG8LKO6ks/v-deo.html
Beautiful backdrop you chose!
Very fun video man XD, also good review !
I only found your channel a few days ago and it's looking like it's already going to cost me about $1600. Thanks a lot...seriously. (Not kidding, you have helped me navigate quite the mirrorless quagmire and I will save money in the long run. And my clients will never know...)
You're gonna love it
My favourite lens on ZV-E10.
Back at it again Mark! I picked up the kit lens for $60 used from marketplace and also have the sigma 16 1.4 per your recommendation. I think I'll find use for both of them for sure!
Can’t go wrong with a lens for $60!!
This makes me feel very good with my purchase in 2024. The mark ii had some nice things, but I'm ok with a cheaper version and it comes with a mechanical shutter which is something I think is better than the e-shutter right now. Before I buy a better lens, which is more than likely a portrait lens or the Sigma 30 1.4, I need to get good with this current one. I need to make the camera, not the other way around! Thank you!
Plz compare sigma 18-50mm f2.8 with sigma 16mm f1.4 on the Zv E10.....amazing content!!
Good! I'll Love it
Always beautiful Mark
thanks, great video. this convinced me to stay on with the kit lens until I come to known it's limitation(hvnt fully use it yet), because still a beginner user with ZV-E10.
Hi Mark, really great video as usual !
Actually, I was very sad when I bought my ZV-E10 as I couldn't find it in the camera + kit lens bundle, and the kit lens is crazy expensive outside of the bundle. Anyway, following your review of the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 and some real life experience, I decided to return the Sony 18-105 F4 I had initially bought to replace it with the Tamron 17-70 F2.8 (great lens by the way, I hope you'll review it someday :) ) that I chose over the Sigma because it has optical stabilization, even though it's a bit less sharp and quick to focus.
I ordered it using your amazon affiliate link, so I hope it worked :)
PS : no more drinking ? ;)
Very thoughtful of you thanks!! I would love to get the Tamron lens in - hopefully soon. I had some apple juice in the edit. Wools don’t like it when you drink at the kids’ park 🤣
So helpful! Thank you!!
Don't know if this is a video idea, but the kit lens got a firmware upgrade to improve AF, just done it myself and there does seem to be an improvement. Occasionally it will flutter onto the background even when I'm close and have tracking, so hopefully that fixes that.
I have to admit the kit lens looks pretty decent. Thanks for the video.
there is a error on the focal lens comparisson. For ZV-1, the advertisement focal length is already on FF equivalence, 24-70mm. The ZV-E1 use the lens focal length, but we need to take the 1.5x Sony APSC crop factor. so 16mm would be 16x1.5=24mm. So 16mm on ZV-E10 16mm is 24mm Full Frame equivalent like the 24mm on ZV-1...
There is no focal length comparison in this video. Maybe you mean a different video? And yes, a 16mm Apsc has a similar field of view to an24mm full frame. Not sure when I would have ever said otherwise. At 5:07, I even said that. if you’re talking about the zv1 vs zve10 video, that wasn’t an error, I was just using the equivalent in Apsc terms. I could have said 24mm full frame - the field of view is the same regardless. the actual focal length was 9.4mm on a one inch sensor which equates to roughly 16mm Apsc size or 24mm full frame
amazing video! thanks!
Fantastic video mate. Very helpful. Subbed
Awesome, thank you!
I agree, I still use the kit lens on my a6600. It works great for vlogging.
I totally agree. Just C$100 but it’s worth way more than that. It is so, so light. Perfect for travel. Of course, as you said you need faster lens for
Low light situations.
Man your so funny 🤣🤣 I laughed so hard at 5:46 (when you said some random name Steve & before ignore that you’ve(audience/viewers) you’ve got the goood subject which is your face 😂😂) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a sarcastic Monk you Are! 😂😂 cheers 🍻 bro
🤣🤣🍺
Thanks for this video Mr Mark Bennett
You are very welcome
The kit lens isn't bad at all, I've been using it since the release. It's decent and light. Compared to the 16-50mm kit lens I got with my Nikon Z Fc it's really not that good, but that kit lens is a lot more expensive and it shows. But, for what I paid for the Sony ZV-E10 with kit lens, it gets the job done. For product photgraphy (my artworks), I prefer the Sony, it makes more appealing shots. For filming I prefer the Nikon with kit lens, it just does a better job. If you're on a budget and want a decent camera with lens, the Sony ZV-E10 with 16mm-50mm kit lens gets the job done.
How good the zfc autofocus to zv-e10 specially in low light ?
@@frenchfries8745 neither are great for low light with the standard kit lens, but the Z fc performs better for sure. It has a lot more options for autofocus compared to the ZV E10. While I love the ZV-E10, the Z fc is the better camera for sure. On the other hand, the range of lenses for the Sony E-mount is impressive. For vlogging, the Sony is the better option and it makes nice photos. For all round the Z fc is way better. Decent vlogging, good filming and way better photos.
I own 2 of those. It is very useful in summer not as much in winter. TBS i had one of those and Sigma 30 2.8 with me on my working Holliday and ended up shooting bunch of stuff including interview with this lens because i didn't have anything else. Didn't had any problems with IQ. It is maybe not sharpest knife, but it could be the right one sometimes. If you shoot in 4k and plan to deliver 1080p you can even use that digital zoom.
I thought that was Steve coming down the stairs behind you. Great review!
I was almost murdered.
Good lens for start filming and learning.
Hi Mark.
Thanks for sharing your points on the Sony ZV E10 Kit Lens. I've recently bought the ZV E10, but I'm quite overwhelmed with all its features, and parameters to set up...
I've done some test footage, and I'm struggling with having the full background in focus.. For instructional videos I sometimes need to have the full frame clear, without the blurry background.
How can I solve this?
Thank you.
When your fstop is low, the background will be blurry. So put your camera in aperture priority “A” and set the fstop to f8. everything will be sharp
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis - Thanks for getting back to me, I greatly appreciate it!
I will definitely give that a go, thanks, I'm pleased to hear your response.
So f8 is the "magical" number, in this case? A good middle of the road setting?
Cheers.
@@GuitarNTabs It’s not really middle of the road - the F8 will be the lens pretty much at it’s sharpest. Lenses usually look really sharp around F8. But for you specifically in your case, it will increase the depth of field so the whole scene will be in focus. Landscape photographers shoot usually between f8-f11 on aps-c cameras to keep everything sharp and in focus. But for portraits or model shots, people usually want a blurry background and set their cameras to f1.8 or similar
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis - You're a lifesaver, thank you so much! Your help is greatly appreciated, and I will give that a go, next time I fire up the ZV-E10.
I can understand that, and I will keep that in mind, but when you say that f8 is pretty much the sharpest the lens will get, is that something you've found out, or is that the general way of lenses..
I'm sadly a total newbie when it comes to these newer cameras..
Thank you.
@@GuitarNTabs In general with lenses. They are sharper when measured. Between f5.6-and f8 generally.
Hello bro👋🏻
Do you have a stabilizer or did you record freehand?
At 6:12 you have the real test, great vid
Great review! I just wished you filmed some footage indoor with low light, though!
The zv-e10 and the kit lens will be ok in lowlight, but you really want to try and avoid a very lowlight situation with that setup. That’s why I mentioned in the video to sit in front of a window of you don’t have a light. Decent lighting is the key to good footage - no matter the lens.
what are the best settings to use on catalyst browse for the zve10 with the kit lens?
Is that the lowest the f stop goes at 50mm 3:22 ? Also do you know roughly how many feet or meters you were away from the camera at that point? Thinking of picking two of these up for close up shots in a podcast.
Thanks soo much from Colombia excellent
Great video. As you stated you are filming yourself with the kit lens. Are you still using film? If so is it super 8?
I actually string together 24 Kodak insta pics every second
Hi Mark! First of all, thanks a lot for all the effort you put into your videos or perhaps there is no effort and you are a natural. Either way, I appreciate you from Barcelona, Spain. I have two questions as a fresh ZV-E10 owner w kit lens. In this video, are you using any PP and if yes ,which ones or what is the colouring process if any as I want this exact look. Secondly, were you recording here with steady shot and active stabilisation on or everything off an ran through Catalyst? Thanks!
Steve got me! Where was Dougie and the trusty kit lens to film all the action? 😛
He was too busy filing my face!!

Thanks for the video, I'm confused between zve10 18-105 and the new zv1 m2, I make vlogs in nature like camping and cooking, my budget is 1200$ what do you think is better for me? I really like zve10 but I'm afraid I can get too much rolling shutter when I move the cam ,Thanks in advance

One question.. whats settings did you use for your video?
Hi, great video, I'm loving your content as a beginner .
Going to get this camera with 10-18 mm power zoom lens.
I'm going to be creating a fishing channel, so lot's of different conditions to contend with as well as close up work for rig tying demonstrations etc.
What reasonably priced lenses would you recommend please?
The sigma 18-50 - it is a great lens at a good price and can do macro shots (very close up) www.amazon.com/18-50mm-F2-8-DC-Contemporary-Sony/dp/B09JVBB36L/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=IB1W2ZQL8ZKQ&keywords=sigma+18-50mm+f2.8+sony&qid=1647543960&sprefix=ssigma+%2Caps%2C70&sr=8-3
Thank you Mark, I'll take a look :)
Should I use leeming lut in sigma 16 mm for color correct? And are you using it in this video with kit lense?
Good evening Mark. I have a video request or maybe you can point in to someone who has done this video. I'd like to learn how to better understand all the autofocus settings on my zve10. How do it get those cool up close shots that shift focus to objects of different depth? How do I keep the camera from constantly searching for something to focus on when I'm just getting a wide angle shot of me working in the garage? Any tips?
I'll try to do some stuff on the focus modes - but look into enabling tracking. You hold you r finger on the object you want tracked on the screen and it will stay with that object
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis K I'll give that a whirl and see what comes of it. I didn't really notice it till I speed up some of my footage to 400% or so and you can really see it focus and defocus over and over again.
Just a thought have you heard of fda-ev1mk that sony used to produce few year back would it work for new now a year old zev10 🤔 💭
It might work - but it costs $600 and the camera is only $700 - so it's a steep price to pay for a viewfinder.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis this is exactly reason why I mentioned Just a thought before the question smart move right 😅😅
I use this lens as a lens cap. lol But it's also one of the better kit lenses when you compare to other camera systems. If low light is not a big requirement, this is a fantastic little (day time) travel lens. Good vid sir. you earned a new sub. :)
Thanks!!
great content man I have been watching your videos all night long. Which lense do you recommend for this camera for Low Light Video? Thanks
sigma 16mm 1.4 or the new Sony 15mm 1.4 👍
Sir, just for Instagram reels/ pictures of myself . What would you recommend sony zve10 with kit lens or Fujifilm x100vi?
It's not a bad lens . For photography but would nice a bit wider and more length to zoom in n out
Bro instead of kit lens while buying its body what will you recommend to buy the cheapest 3rd party lens for doing all kinda photography ,suggest some lens.
Have you reviewed the sony 18-105 F4...OSS? I bought this over the sigma 18 - 50 because of the powered zoom and OSS. Do you have any opinions either way on this Sony lens? I also have the sigma 16mm 1.4 which is just killer. I'm still learning how to do this and you are my go-to guy for Sony cameras. I really appreciate how good of a teacher you are for the nerdy stuff. Must be all that apple juice. Natural sugars are good for the brain. I'm a ZV E10 owner and still learning. Keep up the good work. If you bump into Geddy and Alex, tell them Kurt from Pennsylvania says hello! LOL
I haven’t reviewed the 18-105 but it’s such a great and versatile lens. I’ll say his to Geddy and Alex. Keep that lens closer to your heart

Hey ya know…All the world’s a stage!
Any recommendations on settings for low light? I own a Sony ZV-E10 and plan on recording down the line at a event called Halloween Horror Nights. In which I am outside, in the dark most of the night. Are there any settings I should consider or lenses I should consider for that event?
you should get the sigma 16mm 1.4 amzn.to/3GFbbcS
keep it simple for best results.
Set picture profile to Off. use auto WB
set your aperture to 1.4 and your shutter to 1/50 (if shooting 24 or 25fps)
you can try auto ISO but try to keep your ISO lower than 4000
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ah okay thank you for the advice
Much gorgeous face. Great information, as usual. Thank you .

i was really considering it, but now i see when you move a bit it kinda lags, why? 'im new so excuse my ignorance lol
Hello I would like to ask if you used gimbal while you walking?
no gimbal - I stabilized with the free catalyst browse program from Sony
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ok. noted. thanks man :)
Thanks for your honest. I usually shot drone footage for clients and sometimes interior shots with my osmo pocket 1 and cel+gimbal. I lost a couple of jobs not having a pro camera. Do you think for interior shots and low light conditions (restuarant party) the lens kit would do a better job then my cel or OP? Sorry if sounds a dumb question.
It will do a MUCH better job if you get the camera with a lens like the Sigma 30mm 1.4. You really want a lens like that for low light conditions
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you!
I use the kit lens a lot, but I have 3 of them. One of them is really good, the other 2 are marginal. Everytime I buy a Sony body I try to get a kit lens. They vary in quality. I think the one I use is made in Thailand, but would have to double check that. I also use the full-frame kit, 28-70mm. I think it is a great lens on an ASP-C body too. For video it's hard to find better anywhere near the price. Good video ... no reason not to have the little kit lens for $100 bucks ... Cheers ...
Thanks for the input - I’ll see if I can find out where they’re made!!

I'm brand new to cameras and just picked up the ZVE10 for real estate videos, and to capture my new daughter's baby years.
The camera came w/ the kit lens and the Sigma 16mm. Can someone tell me when I would want to use one over the other?
you want to use the sigma as much as you can. Much sharper lens, better in lowlight. but you would use the kit lens if you need that zoom range or at 50mm for taking head and shoulder pics of people in sunlight.

I'm going on a beach vacation next wk. Should I just bring the sigma and leave the kit lense at home?
I would take the kit too - it's so small and light. But you're going to want an ND filter for the Sigma in the sunshine. I like this one - cheap and great: amzn.to/3NHYDph Make sure you get the 67mm filter size
I can see the rolling shutter. My wife does not see rolling shutter. Most of my clients do not notice any rolling shutter, but me, being mostly used to GH5, after I bought a ZV-EDoug, I can really spot the trademark Sony a6xxx rubber jello effect on many youtube channels and not just during panning, this applies to moving hands, heads etc…it’s just ever slightly there
BTW I have also pimped out my ZVe with a cage, shoulder rig and a NP-F charger w/dummy and now it looks even more “pro” than a my S5 without a cage :)
Yes - rolling shutter is there on the Sony apsc lineup for sure. And it’s true most people wouldn’t notice it. It’s one of the goals of the channel to help people mitigate any potential jello effects by talking about using the camera for its strengths and avoiding situations you’d find rolling shutter. I love my GH5 still!!
I am into filmmaking and occasional photography want to get a beginner camera, is ZvE10 good for me?
