    i love how you're like "go check them out and then come back" instead of "check them out after you watch this video", it's kind of super sweet

      That's what happens when you know you have such an awesome audience like they do. Hope to have that one day, we're in our way to that💪🏽🌱

    • @alexisrose4221
      @alexisrose4221 8 років тому +3

      I was thinking that too but being someone that posts videos myself, it literally is just a way to get extra views! We already gave her a view by clicking, then she told us to go to him and come back. That's another view lol!! It is "sweet" but it's a money technique hahha ! Even though I know Lauren isn't all about money but ya. There would be no other point in stopping her video to switch to his then come back.

    • @Mi-nc2rh
      @Mi-nc2rh 8 років тому +21

      oh... i don't really think this is what lauren was going for when she said that. but even if she was, it doesn't matter that much to me because 1) i watched this video first anyway, 2) if this method earns hff extra cash, then good for them! they deserve it

    • @pucktweety
      @pucktweety 8 років тому +11

      Pretty sure it only counts if you actually watch a certain percentage of her video so that idea doesn't really make sense.

    • @KaylieGraceVideos
      @KaylieGraceVideos 8 років тому +11

      You get paid off of both video clicks and percentage of the video watched. 1 click = 1 view. Either way, I don't think Lauren's intention was to make more money off of extra clicks haha. It's probably just because the other video explains the background to this video/why they are doing the dinner exchange :)

    Lauren!!!! I've been watching hot for food vids for a while now and I absolutely love this channel and your personnal one! I know you have been very busy/stressed with the cookbook stuff, but just wanted to tell you to hang in there and to not forget to have fun in your videos! I've noticed you being more and more serious in your videos (which is not necessarily bad) and I just hope you don't forget to have fun while you do them! We love what you do! Love, your fellow canadian friend xx

    You guys should make Turkish red lentil lettuce cups (mercimek koftesi). Basically red lentils, bulgur, and tomato paste with lemon juice and spices. It's my favorite appetizer at family parties and are already vegan!

    • @JenniferWoellert
      @JenniferWoellert 8 років тому

      Ayla this sounds amazing! I looked it up to find a recipe- cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12687-mercimek-koftesi-lentil-balls
      Does that look about right?

    • @ayla4056
      @ayla4056 8 років тому +1

      Yes that looks great! I recommend wrapping each one in lettuce and finishing with a squeeze of lemon juice :)

    • @JenniferWoellert
      @JenniferWoellert 8 років тому

      Ayla hey, have you made them before? The recipe says fine burghul but I could only find medium #2. Is that fine enough? About to make them!

    • @ayla4056
      @ayla4056 8 років тому

      I'm afraid it has to be the finer type or else they'll fall apart. If you have access to an international market you could find it there or online. Good luck!

    • @JenniferWoellert
      @JenniferWoellert 8 років тому

      Ayla I went ahead and made them. They held together well! Next time I can just run the bulgur in the vitamin dry goods container to make it finer.

    Hey Lauren, I think you'd really like banh xeo. I don't know if you've ever had it, but it's a Vietnamese yellow pancake filled with veggies (and tofu sometimes). It's usually served with fresh cilantro and basil and mint and comes with a fish-sauce based dipping sauce which would be easy to replace. The batter is usually vegan from what I can tell and it's SO delicious. When my friends and I get together, we'll make them and either eat them on a lettuce leaf with all the fresh herbs or roll them in a rice paper sheet. SO GOOD!
    Hope all is going well with the cookbook!

    Does anyone have a good recipe for CONCHAS? (Mexican Pan dulce)
    I've been craving them so bad lately and the "traditional" way has sooo much shit in it lol I also don't like the fact that they use A LOT of vegetable shortening because I try to avoid palm oil :(

    • @bananamonkeys2322
      @bananamonkeys2322 8 років тому +1

      Gabie Moret Ive been craving them terribly as well! Ive been looking up recipes and they're quite easy to veganize. Im thinking of using Lauren's dough recipe for the cinnamon rolls, breaking up into balls and for the topping use vegan butter, powdered sugar, vanilla (food coloring if you like) and a bit of flour to thicken it up. Pat that mixture out like making a tortilla and plop it on top of the rested dough balls. Take a knife and cut out the concha design and bake. That's my plan, Im making them this weekend :)

    • @GabieRetana
      @GabieRetana 8 років тому +1

    I can't believe that I can get Miyoko products in NZ but they aren't in CA yet. I tried the butter and one of the soft cheeses and they were good, but not as good as I expected. She does a video on making buffalo mozzarella that turned out quite good though I must say. She is a very smart cookie;D I am always happy to see collabs and will check out Joe's channel too! I think these cookies could be made GF quite easily with almond flour, (since they are almond flavored anyway) and brown rice flour. I think I am going to give it a go=) YUM!! Thanks for sharing.

    I LOVED this episode and can relate to him saying you changed his life. Instagram was pivotal for me in becoming vegan. I've always been someone who loved the food network and loved watching cooking shows because I love cooking. I've always wanted to be a chef. But it doesn't seem to be much content out there (cooking shows, tv shows) marketed towards vegans. (Although I do believe that's changing). Of course I follow lots of vegan pages on Instagram that post lots of awesome videos. But your channel is like it's own vegan cooking show. I keep wondering if you guys have a patreon...I think that's what it's called. Because you do so much and you reach so many people....people who think vegans are weird and extreme and that veganism is so limiting. Sorry for the speech but I've been binge watching you guys the last few days. I haven't made any of the recipes yet but I can't wait to go grocery shopping and try to!

    Hey Lauren, what are your thoughts on sprinkles being vegan? I've heard that they are not but I don't know why. I love sprinkles! Or- here at the jersey shore some call them jimmys lol

    My family is Italian, so I can't wait to show them that these cookies can be made vegan! As far as Anginette vs. Anginetti...some Italians shorten up some words (especially when it comes to food haha) by cutting off the last syllable. So they may in fact be Anginetti cookies with the last syllable removed over time. Either way they look so good.

    I was born and raised in Italy but I'm the north so I've never heard of these cookies as they're traditionally from Campania. From what I've gathered from google, all the recipes that say anginette are Italian American. Every Italian website says anginetti with an I. Idk where the "e" came from!

      Same here, I live in the NE of Italy and I had never heard of them before.
      I guess that the beauty of our country, you skip a region and you find a whole new menu.
      Maybe the -e got mixed up with the -i in the American pronunciation, how many times have you seen fettuccine spelled fettuccini?

    You should try to make a vegan miyabi soup (like the Japanese chicken and beef broth with chives and mushrooms)

    Those are virtually identical to my grandmother's anise cookies. You use anise oil (not extract) instead of the lemon zest and almond extract.

    I know these as anise cookies, I've never heard of calling them anginette. But hey everyone is different. I'm gonna try these! Is there another way to substitute the ricotta without using tofu?

      hot for food that is such a bummer! I live in the rural east coast of the US and had to cancel my order with them because of the expense of the shipping rate. It's too bad it's still so expensive for you. I hope you find a more affordable way to get them. I am sure you have heard they are so amazing.

      It's so unfortunate that their shipping is so high. I wanted to order like 4 items under $10 each and the shipping was over $30 to ontario here. Waaaahhhhh

    I am in college and living in a dorm and eating tasty vegan food can be hard, you should make a video making like 3 recipes in a rice cooker that are manageable but still super yummy!

      Anna McClellan AnarchistKitchen have a video called 11 vegan rice recipes (college student). I made the smokey red cajun rice and omg so goooood. You should check it out. They use a regular pot for the recipes but I'm sure w/ a lot of them you can use a rice cooker ua-cam.com/video/IpHZlkQOP-s/v-deo.html

    Icing tip: Make a thick icing and heat it jo a bit in a pan. It Will get softer/more runny. Apply to cake and when it cools it get back to The thick icing.

    Anginette (pronounced an-gi-net-tay) is the singular form of the word anginetti. So basically anginette is 1 cookie and anginetti is more than one! I'm not Italian but am learning the language.
