  • Big books are fun to read, right? The Big Book Summer Reading Challenge is for reading books of 400+ pages... as many as possible by the end of the summer. I'm signed up for this at Sue's blog and on her Goodreads group.

I saw that Becka at the Hicks Picks Books channel wanted a readalong of The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers, so I signed up for that too.

Glad to see you are enjoying #BigBookSummer so far, Linda! Thanks for the video shout-out :) Sounds like you have some great books lined up for summer! I've never heard of that Steinbeck novel. I read a lot of Steinbeck in school, but that was a very long time ago! I should revisit his novels. Enjoy your Big Books and your other reading, too!

Hi Sue - I'm enjoying reading bigger books this summer! I normally choose books that are slightly shorter.

I've heard of Francine Rivers, but I've never read any of her books. Glad you enjoyed the readalong. =) It's good to see a video update from you. 👍

I just got real internet connected again for the first time since the fire . . . (as opposed to shared wifi from a hotel or RV park) . . . so I may be uploading more frequently now.

I have never read a Francine Rivers book either but her name keeps popping up for me recently! The only romance writer I have ever read is Georgette Heyer. Maybe I should expand!

I think I'd like the Francine Rivers books better without the romance element but I'll give her another try. I'm really curious about the books she's written based on stories in Bible history. If they all continue to bring in the excessive romance.......... I'll quit reading them. While reading the Masterpiece I kept thinking the book would be more appropriate for a teenager or young adult. When I was a young adult I read a lot of Victoria Holt gothic romance novels... but they were tame compared to today's romance novels.

Very well done, Linda. Books about men's chest muscles do not appeal to me either haha. How many do you think you'll make it through? Fantasy would be your friend here. Nowadays it seems like every new fantasy that comes out is 400+ pages.

How many big books? ... I'm not sure how many I could read over the summer. I hope that reading page-turning fiction will help. My gold rush book, I wasn't even trying to read fast... just reading 4 to 10 pages a day seemed enough. I'm guessing that if I read 4 big books this summer it will be amazing.
