How to break 80. Step one, play a par 68 course 😂. I play off 5 but this was entertaining to watch. It’s nice to hear someone else’s course management. Good content thanks.
Hey Sam, I love the short video clips interspersed throughout. They were really well chosen and such an hilarious contrast with the serious nature of your commentary. I thought you hit some great shots, too, especially when putting. Great video, keep up the good work!
After a long break from golf iam back at it now 50 and not as supple as i was i forgot how hard and frustrating it is i try to just give myself 5 shots per hole. Course management is key 👍
I discovered your golf channel through golf sidekick, you’re right it is pretty boring golf but you’re putting game is really spot on and it’s all about controlling the damage with that club. Love thecontent. I’m a 10.7 index and really working hard on getting to a single in the 24 season. Thanks for the great video. Cheers from Canada
Some courses in Scotland and the north of England make you use these on the fairways in winter to protect them from divots that won't repair in the cold weather.
I do absolutely everything advised in this video, and I still can't break 80. Just can't stop the hole-wrecking bad shots. Sometimes you just need to be better at golf.
Hey man. We have to use fairway mats at most courses in Scotland during the winter to protect the fairways (the grass won’t grow until warmer weather).
Im trying to break 90 again after only doing it once. Shot 92 the other day. My driving is good. Mid irons need alot of work, often my tempo goes way off and I skull or hit fat. 100 yards is good. Chipping and putting is a complete gamble. I'd love to get to 85 this summer.
1:18 Like it how he says it’s easy and the third hole hits a bad shot which is about 3 inches from the water which would have meant he failed. Literally said how lucky the shot was 😂
Agreed. Flawless course management won't save you if you still hit shots that wildly get away from you. All it takes is 2 or 3 of those to sink your chances for a sub 80 score
It’s more of a mentality of lagging it in there, if I make it then great… if I miss then it’s not the end of the world. I get what you’re saying though! I’m usually more aggressive when I’m playing well.
Same, got to a 4 and only 4 games in the 70s. Went to a 13 after and trending back down finally. 80 is about taking pride out of your swing and taking more club. Not driving when 3 wood is better and trying for bogey when a hole is kicking your butt and not trying the 1 in a million shot.
Young lads with motorised trolleys, tour bags and a full set.....in winter 😂 Get a pencil bag, half set and carry, invent knockdown shots and at least look like a proper golfer not an OAP.
Below 80 on a par 68 is of course alot easier than a a par 72. At +11 that would be 83. That said, you didn't make any putts so I'm pretty sure you left a few shots out there based on what I see of your game. Otherwise though you are right, course management has a huge impact on score. It does take discipline not to go for the hero shot or try to go for the pin when it seems so inviting and you can ''see'' the birdie if the shot pans out. Easier said than done!

Haha. Thought the same thing on the par 68. But this is a great example of how to keep doubles off your scorecard. Thanks Sam

Appreciate it man!
Sorry mate I’m not familiar with this why do you bring your own mat for some shot?
Some courses in Scotland and the north of England make you use these on the fairways in winter to protect them from divots that won't repair in the cold weather.
@@orikoru oh I see mate thank you that’s a first time for me🤙
Edits had me laughing, good job 😂

Why were you hitting off mats?
1:06 and 2:47 it seems that you're actually aiming a long way right of where you think you're aiming
I never heard of hitting approach shots off a mat. Is that required where you play?
Hey man. We have to use fairway mats at most courses in Scotland during the winter to protect the fairways (the grass won’t grow until warmer weather).
Same in Manchester 😒
@@SamKingGolf Interesting
What do you use to edit these videos? And how did you add the shot tracer?
I just use Capcut… and an app called ‘Golf Tracer’ on ios
@@SamKingGolf thank you sir!! Good stuff. I’m trying to get better at it. How long have you been posting and working on it?
A little while now. Been taking it seriously for a few months now… getting much much better!
What is that mat? I've never seen that before?
It’s a winter mat we use here in Scotland over the colder months. It protects the grass (it doesn’t grow)

You’ll get there man! You’re so close.
@@SamKingGolf thx!
And what is your handicap?
Says at the top! I’m off 9 at the moment.
Good vid. Bogeys are our friends, doubles or more are nae
Appreciate it! Keep them off the card! 🤣
My game is really close to yours. Any ideas you have should help me.
I have to shoot 7 over to break 80 😢 only managed to do it once at 76 4 over.
Love that! Yeah my range at the moment is +4 to +12… really need to start focusing on sitting around that +6 to +8 mark

You need to have a fundamentally sound swing to even think about breaking 80. If you can't hit a golf ball confidently to any spot it's gonna be hard
Of course! But the choices we make on the course will definitely help.

You draw or hit a straight shot with your irons but fade your driver. Hmm. With the driver imagine you have an iron in your hands.😺
I had a week where I was hitting a high draw with my driver and I have no idea why 🤣
How about “minimum two putt for bogey” mentality and believe you can make some of those putts?
It’s more of a mentality of lagging it in there, if I make it then great… if I miss then it’s not the end of the world.
I get what you’re saying though! I’m usually more aggressive when I’m playing well.
9 handicappers do not break 80 with average rounds. It takes their A-game.
80 , is my all time best ,, 79 is coming one Day ,,
Facts. I got my handicap to a 7 last year and more than half my rounds were 80+
💯. My best is 73 but I played like I was Rory. Usually I’m in the low 80s and sometimes the high 70s

100%… that front 9 wasn’t great but the game plan meant that I was still able to put a decent score together due to no doubles/triples on the card!
Breaking 80 is juat about putting well
I cant break 80 cuz i cant putt or chip worth a shit lol
how to break 80...... play par 68 hahahahah
It’s just an example of my game plan! I’ve shot 73, 74, 75 around here which would break 80 at any course! 😊
