SPITE I really want your help with my Dads bike. He passed away a few years ago from Lou Gehrig’s disease and I really want to get it running again. It’s a cb750K. It’s only got 3,000 miles on it!!!!! All original.
Just a word of advice to someone doing clutch plates, get a cheap micrometer, the final clutch stack height is important and can effect performance and wear significantly.
Same with springs, measure length to determine if they are in spec.. another thing Spite could have done is .. not a biggie.. replace the clutch spring bolts w/ lighter titanium .. they are heavy and 5 add up.
Amazing video spite! I love me a good maintenance video! I remember constantly working on my yz125 doing clutches and top ends and chains etc… Always fun reliving it vicariously! Keep up the good work and we appreciate your dedication to the channel and us fans!
we shall be ready in the lever video comment section with the Old Bay. also really nice to see the happy joking Spite back in videos. It seems like taking some of the editing stress off of you really is helping you make better stuff.. Keep it up.
I'm a fan of Ducati ThreeBond 1215.. aka ThreeBond 1215 sealant LOL for case to case sealing. Need just a small bead and your good. Couple of things you can do, not biggies.. replace the clutch spring bolts and caps. In the Hondas case.. a washer .. with TITANIUM.. 5 sometimes 6 SS clutch spring bolts & washers or "caps' add up weight wise. Next more importantly, with 50,000 miles, I noticed his clutch basket had suffered wear in the clutch plate tang slots. The "wear' is the friction plate tang battering against the basket.. which over time scallops the aluminum basket.. this scalloping manifest itself as ridges.. as the tangs wear, the gap between the tang and basket grows, and exacerbates wear and noise.. Take some emory cloth and lightly sand those ridges down a smidge. IF the scalloping is serious, and your feeling rough engagement when letting the clutch out, you realy should replace the basket. If your familiar w/ Ducati dry clutches.. they "Clatter" this clattering is the gap between the friction plate tang and basket.. as the plate tangs become worn from hammering the basket, this clattering increases. In a oil bathed clutch pack, you don't hear it though.. Just my 2 cents .. in a novel form...
Ooo a lever vid coming! I've literally been shopping for levers for my ex300 the last couple days and was going to go with some toxics but now I'll wait and see what Lord Spite has to say
I'm convinced that modern motorcycle clutches are almost not a wear item anymore. I've replaced bike clutches at around 40,000 miles as per the manual but the clutch plates would not show wear. Methinks you'd have to go back to used bikes made in the early 1990's to find worn clutch plates.
@@Motosportz That's the problem. Pilots operating motorcycles. Put a rider on them and there won't be any issues. PS: A pilot is a person that operates a rudder. Bikes have no rudders.
Fun video! I didn't expect any wrenching. Maybe a slideshow with commentary and comparisons between stock and aftermarket parts at the most. It's like extra EXTRA fries on the bottom of the bag!
Good lord, I just checked, and this has been in the works since November of 2023. One of those 'Days drag along but months fly by' sort of things. I'm just happy that I'm finally going to see the process and the finished product.
I am looking forward to the next vid. I ounno what you could possibly say that I don't already know about shorty levers. It's a lever. So the longer it is, the easier it's gonna be to use. That's how leverage works. I just like the way shortys look. And I feel like as a former Harley rider, you should understand that. Sometimes, you gotta take a hit to functionality for form.
Good video. I've never seen a motorcycle clutch before. I was looking forward to seeing the install of the clutch with a bit of info but it was fast forwarded 😅 Otherwise, loved the vid. I like your content, it seems more genuine than some similar motorcycle channels. Thanks 👍
This is where having the service manual is useful. Torque specs, bolt specs, expanded assembly views. Very handy. There are bolts you shouldn’t reuse. Also, always clean everything. You can find all kinds of hidden wear and damage as you go.
Sorry Spite, the gasket maker on the inside is bad. When in get into the oil, no oxygen. It gets hard. I know this from doing one of my first gearbox rebuilds. About 35 years ago. Got into the gears, and locked it up. Why I hate that stuff. Other tricks of the trade, for doing that.
Those bikes are great little nuggets. Back when I had one all the other guys got GSXR600's and R6's but on the road and at the track I was faster due to the bike being easy to ride. People shit on Honda for being easy to use or boring but I'm no Mick Doohan. 140mph/225kph knee down turn 3 at Phillip Island all day.
Honda has the BEST oem clutch material ever. Actually, I've never seen a Japanese clutch that the aftermarket could complete with. Barnett in general has very grabby clutch plates. For a drag bike or some other use case where power output has been significantly raised, sure. For a daily rider or a single track woods bike I find them exhausting.
lol, legitimately curious about what your thoughts are going to be on Shorties and ASV specifically. I run ASV shorties on my bike and I think they are at least a helluva lot better than stock, but I don't have a huge pool of experience to draw from to make that impression.
With my extensive metallurgical expertise (i once heat treated and tempered some metal rods) so none, im wondering if a few heat cycles loosens up the new clutch springs a little? I just had a rekluse torqdrive clutch put in my RE865 and the first few days it was heavy. 1000ks later and it feels much lighter.
I own six I think... and a hoodie. And a patch. And one of their limited presses of The Descent on vinyl. and I support them on patreon. And I definitely don't have a problem 👍
I think when it comes to upgrades on a bike. You upgrade when things break or go bad. At that point you might as well get something better especially when you're already in there. I do remember you talking about comparing levers a while back. I like asv levers.🤣
Word of advice you should always break em loose with a wrench born a ratchet first that driver will cause you to pull the threads and you won't notice until u go to torque it down, then ya will be held coiling, when it won't torque after a project ,is a terrible feeling
I admit I may had joined some "fashion parts" in my days. But thanks to my current job (which I hate) that I didn't joined this "blade mirror" wagon. I really duno why people like this.
That's why I went with anaerobic. It never hardens. Given the volume of oil it and the torque the parts of the motor impart there's no way it'll cause issues. It's the way I prefer to make seals with aluminum to aluminum.
Instead of brake parts cleaner to clean the oil off the parts try starting fluid next time. Let me know how it goes. Make sure you are in a WELL ventilated area. Not unless you want a visit from the ether bunny. Ha ha. It’s an old mining mechanic secret.
Add on hydro clutch is the answer. Then you can run a shorty if you want. Also, shame on you for dumping a half of quart of dirty oil in your new oil and clutch! Shame!!!
Stay tuned for more upgrades on the CBR600F4i and check out some behind the scenes content over on the patreon: www.patreon.com/spitescorner

Does it?, only if it’s a whole lot too thick as it’s the springs that create the contact so it’s not critical

I largely agree but it also depends on the quality of the pilots she's had to endure.
If it's been a stunt bike the clutch may have had a hard life, ridden by ordinary Joe? Interesting point you make

This vid came at the right time. I’m getting ready to change the clutch plates on my classic 1994 Honda CB 1000 the Big One.

Yeah, it wasn't a dedicated install. Ari Henning has made some very good ones. I'm also not the best mechanic out there 🤣
@spitescorner haha, thanks for your reply. I'll have a look for Ari's vid, cheers!
Looking forward to more

Or just send it as it is a 50k mile race thrasher, and a Honda.
Spite- that clutch cover is supposed to have a proper gasket.
Previous owner bodge-jobbed it with gasket maker.

Go with a Righteous Stunt Clutch lever and you will be extremely happy with it and they come with a lifetime warranty
Shorty levers make sense for a track bike.
What no slipper clutch upgrade! why not, WHY!

I've never pulled a thread impacting stuff off. Especially on bolts with super low torque.
Are any of those going to make it run?

Who doesn't like ASV levers? That's like not liking cookies.
12:00 stopping at yellows is a sketchy way to get rear ended 😮
My experience with Barnett is that the lever becomes hard...too hard. So it's not an improvement in my point of view.
Which bike stand is that in your garage? I want one
The lift, the ATV jack, the black rear stand or the gold one?
@@spitescorner My bad, I was referring to the lift specifically 😬
